3 Installation TEM Safe Parking Use Parking and release valve with integrated emergency brake valve as well as a pressure protection valve for auxiliary devices (e.g. air suspension) for two-line air brake equipment in towed vehicles. The TEM has a flange-fitted release valve and a parking valve for the spring brake. Safe Parking is a new feature, effecting the spring brakes coming into action during uncoupling or pressure loss. Before moving off the spring brake actuators have to be released manually using the parking valve. In particular, the TEM satisfies the requirements of EEC Braking Systems Directive 71/320 and ECE R 13. Method of Operation 1. Supply (emergency/red) line coupled 1./2. When the emergency/red line is connected, the supply pressure provided by the tractor is fully available to the braking system. The service brake is released and the spring brakes are operating. When the opening pressure of the pressure protection valve (optional) is exceeded, supply pressure is also available to the auxiliary devices. Actuation of parking brake 2./3. When the parking valve (red button) is pulled, the spring brake unit at port 12/2 is connected to the exhaust port 3. The pressure in the spring brake unit therefore falls, and the parking brake is applied. When the parking valve (red button) is pushed in, the spring brake system at port 12 is connected to the air supply reservoir, ports 1-2. The pressure in the spring brake system therefore rises, and the parking brake is released. The parking brake system must always be released manually before uncoupling (red button pulled). The release can, however, only be effected when a pressure of at least 5.0 bar is available in the supply reservoir. Initial charging 2. Pressure rise approx. 6.2 bar 3. If pressure is lost through an auxiliary device, a safety pressure is maintained in the supply reservoir of the service brake equipment by the integrated pressure protection valve. 4 TEM Safe Parking Installation Pressure loss in the supply line-effect on the parking brakes If the pressure in the emergency/red line is lost the automatic breaking will be activated before the pressure reaches a level of 2 bar. In this case port 12/2 will be depressurized and braking is performed by the parking brakes. Effect on the service braking system supply reservoir and the auxiliary devices If the emergency/red line is pulled off, loss of supply air from the trailer vehicle s supply reservoir and the auxiliary devices is prevented by the integrated low pressure check valve. Emergency braking 5. Manoeuvring operation 5./6. In order to manoeuvre the uncoupled vehicle, both the operating knobs, black first and red second, must be pushed in. Only this ensures that the spring braking system is released and that the vehicle is not braked. The parking valve must be pulled again (5.0 bar supply reservoir) when the manoeuvring process is complete. Fitting guidelines The TEM should be attached to the vehicle chassis through its mounting flange, using two M8 screws and spacing washers, tightened to a maximum torque of 15 Nm (splah and spray water protected. The maximum tightening torque for the threaded bushings is 34 Nm. The (picture 7) function plate must be attached to a visible area near the palm coupling. Ensure that the operating equipment is easily accessible. Ports that are not needed must be closed off. When painting, the valve openings must be protected to prevent paint penetration. Refer to the respective manufacturer s instructions for the screwed / push-in fittings. Activating the parking brake when coupled part Releasing the parking brake when uncoupled part 2. Maintenance TEM has to be checked according to legal registrating country requirements or the statutory regulations of 29 StVZO. If defects are discovered, either during examination of the vehicle or when travelling, the valve must be replaced. 6 TEM Safe Parking Installation Check Check the TEM for tightness and proper functions as described below. WARNING: secure trailer against moving System without pressure Shunt valve (black button) must be pushed in, parking valve (red button) automatically pushed out. Initial charging Apply pressure to port 1; the shunt valve (black button) must go into the operating position (pushed out). The parking valve (red button) remains pushed out. Automatic emergency braking Ensure that the black button is pulled out, and the red button is pushed in. Lower the pressure at port 1 to 0 bar. The air in the spring brakes (port 12/2) exhausts through port 3 automatically activating the emergency brakes (i.e. red button pushed out). Pressure protection valve Instructions for adjustment may be found in the installation instructions, order no.: Parking brake valve (red button) Mounting drawing Apply air pressure to port 1, shunt valve (black button) is automatically pushed out. Push in the parking valve (red button), at least 5.0 bar in the supply (brake) reservoir. Pull out the parking valve (red button), port 12/2 (spring brake system) must vent down to 0 bar, vehicle braked. Warning - Danger!
