3 First off I would like to thank Bob Lewis for a great shop tour on April 9th. We had a pretty good turn out with about 20 club members. The Salem Auto Club Cherry Blossom Poker run had a pretty good turn out considering the weather was kind of iffy. We had approximately 182 cards sold, not to bad considering the weather. Gary and I sure enjoyed seeing all the cars and meeting all the different car club people. Just want to mention a few shows but not everything in May. The Corvallis swap meet on the 1st, Silverton s first Friday on the 6th, Duffy's Hanger Cruise-In on the 14th, and the Iris Festival car show on the 21st. Just for whatever it is worth, I happen to be watching season 3 of the old Leave It To Beavers and I see this young kid on there who plays one of the Crusaders in "The High School Letterman's Club". It just happens to be the Tommy Ivo which the club is doing a recreation of his hot rod. The T project. 9 Getting to Know You Roger Vines & Marcia Priest What good fortune for us to have newcomers Roger Vines and Marcia Priest in our WVSR family! This is such a delightful couple! Marcia was raised in Coquille and Roger in Seattle. They both found themselves in the Myrtle Point/ Coos Bay area and two years ago met and fell in love. Roger says they have "been together ever since". They moved to Salem to be closer to family and I am so glad they did! Marcia is a retired teacher and Roger is retired from a "few things". He is a glass artist (over 40 years) and taught art after giving up numerous other things like restoring Thunderbirds! I followed their beautiful 77 Chevy Silverado to the Cherry Blossom Poker Run on Saturday. The truck has a 350 engine and was purchased in Gladstone at Affordable Auto. After their maiden voyage that left them stranded on the side of the 205 freeway, then limping home, with a brake issue. The owner being "a good guy" and getting it perfect. It is a sweet ride! After a trip to the Drop Shop in Portland to lower it, they have taken to the cruising. They especially like the fact that you can "roll up the windows so Marcia s hair will not get messed up" they traded a Model A Roadster for the privilege. Roger told me one of the reasons he enjoys WVSR so much is that we do "so much with our cars!" A former member of the Thunderbird Club, Roger likes the fact that we are a tight knit group and enjoy the hanging out and we are not "high brow". Despite the comment that they are "boring people", Roger and Marcia are looking for some fun, I do not believe it for a moment that they are boring. I found them to be gracious and genuine. Roger has a bit of a sense of humor too. Marcia has a great smile and an engaging way about her. And they make such a cute couple! Dancing With the Cars is one of their "favorite things to do". So, if you have not visited these lovely people, get over there and introduce yourself. I appreciated the time I spent with them. I am looking forward to more fun times with these very nice folks!
