Our new product for this edition is the RV8 HEATER TAP (ZKC 51191) Our aluminium cooling system overflow bottles introduced in the last issue have been selling well and we are awaiting another batch of locally made radiator covers. Imports of RV8 s have dropped off in the last 12 months although cars are still coming to auction in Japan. In this issue the RV8 option discussed is the car cover offered to Japanese owners by Rover Japan. 5 HEATER TAP AVAILABLE At last we have been able to get a stock of RV8 heater tap part number ZKC Getting the correct tap has been difficult with a similar product being readily available but working in the opposite direction. The RV8 tap which is turned off when the cable is pulled has proved to be elusive until now. Heater taps have a habit of seizing either in the off or on position resulting in very stiff controls or extra hot feet. 6 A HUB WITH A DIFFERENCE Front hub bearings on RV8 s seem to suffer from becoming dry followed by quite significant pitting of the balls and the bearing surfaces. Jack up the front and lever back the front pads so the wheels can rotate freely. Get the wheel spinning quickly & you will either hear nothing or the bearing will be growling at you. If it is noisy it s time to act. Now the fun begins, two hubs with different bearings were used during the production of the RV8 why? Bearing in early hub was 34mm wide while in the later hub a 33mm bearing was used. We have a position where 34mm bearings are no longer available with fitted seals so the easiest way out is to fit the later 33mm bearing with a 1mm spacer behind the outer bearing case. Current bearing kits come with spacers so these bearings can be used in both hub types. To tell which hub you have see picture which shows machined groove on the edge of stud flange which indicates a later hub with 33mm bearing. 7 LOCAL RV8 ACTIVITIES CAVES BEACH RUN Sydney MGCC RV8 Register has been out and about again with a run to Caves Beach on the NSW central coast for a brunch run in August. A total of 16 RV8 s attended with a good selection of red,green and blue cars on show. After a photo opportunity not to be missed a relaxing breakfast with all the trimmings was enjoyed by all. Run organizers Alan Heritage & Dominic David were very pleased with the attendance with more RV8 runs planned. 8 RV8 Option of the Issue RV8 BODY COVER FAMBC392 With the expense of garaging in Japan forcing many cars to be kept outdoors the car cover is an essential option for the Japanese motorist. ROVER JAPAN offered a cover for the RV8 on its official option list under the part number FAMMBC392 priced at 20,000 yen (A$250.00). These covers are in a silver reflective finish made from a waterproof nylon type material. Earlier covers had a fleecy white interior to protect the paint but would leave white fluff all over your newly detailed soft top. LABEL FROM BAG COVER SUPPLIED IN Later covers did away with the fleece and just left fine abrasion marks on your paint like most car covers. Covers were well tailored to the RV8 contour with mirror pockets and MG badge on the front of the bonnet, a bag was provided for storage.

9 A TOUCH OF JAPANESE DESIGN You can only wonder what would drive someone to go to the trouble of making and fitting these very well made light units to an RV8. I can only think that the originals were damaged or stolen but there was no sign of even the slightest damage to the rear of the vehicle. A WRECKED RACK We came across this steering rack in a recently imported RV8 A picture speaks a 1000 words but this is the most corroded sloppy steering rack we have ever come across, there was over 15mm of movement at the wheels. Also check out the rust in the top of the shock mount. Moisture finds it s way under paint coating and just does its work. Need to scrape off paint and let some fresh air in. Rest of

11 MGF SPRING CONVERSION AUSTRALIAN MADE MGF SPRING CONVERSION Local company the MG Centre of Sydney has introduced a spring conversion kit for the MGF. With the difficulty of obtaining new rear suspension bags and the cost of continual suspension pump ups and maintenance this looks to be the final solution. MG Centre owner Stuart Ratcliff has enlisted the talents of local spring makers Kings and rally / race suspension guru Murray Coote of MCA Suspension to fine tune a conversion kit that replaces the trouble plagued MGF suspension bag set up. Locally produced spring units have been combined with fully adjustable GAZ dampers produced in the UK especially for the kit. This has resulted in a bolt in conversion with OE quality ride and handling properties. Ride height is fully adjustable at each wheel and the kit comes complete with all fitting instructions and adjustment tools. Many klm s of testing have been carried out over an 18 month period with no problems encountered. If you are tired of your MGF suspension letting you down it may be time to contact the MG Centre of Sydney on and solve the problem.
