The 2nd Southeast MoParty Picnic will be held the weekend of May So far ETM members caravanning down with Mike and I Saturday morning are: Jim Hill, John Foster, Anthony & Heather Jeffers, Joe David Stansberry, Tony & Sherri Redmond, and Brent Ledgerwood. There is still time to register. Let me know if you plan to join us! The Friday activities begin with a Cruise to Coker Tire in Chattanooga. Later that evening, racing at the Brainerd Motorsport Park in Ringgold, GA. See the Super Stock Showdown, race your own in between rounds, meet racing legends Herb McCandless and the Ramchargers - Mike Buckie and Dick Jones. Saturday is the picnic at Camp Jordan. From 9am - 4pm. Everyone attending is asked to bring their favorite side dish or dessert. This event is a wonderful opportunity to just kick back and relax and enjoy the best cars around and the people who drive them. It is important that you go to their website and register: You will pay for your registration and lunch when you get there. ETM will be caravanning down Saturday morning to this event. We will meet at West Town Mall - the parking lot next to Longhorn Steakhouse at 7:00am. Pick up I-40 west to I-75 south and head down to East Ridge, TN. Jim Hill has volunteered to lead the group. We will make pit stops along the way. ETM is proud to help sponsor this event. With that sponsorship, we have 4 spots inside the arena to display member s cars and the rest of us will set up outside. I will bring the club tent for us to use. Be sure to bring a lawn chair, some soft drinks for the day, and a dessert or side dish to share. Please use throw away contains. It will be easier for clean up. Also bring your camera. You will see some of the best Mopars in the southeast. The regular May meeting will be held on Thursday, May 4 at Chilhowee Park - Midway Side. The Beaman Street gate will be open. Let s meet at the picnic shelter on that side.

2 Page 2 Car Show Update - By Judy Holman Less than 2 months to go until the 29th Annual Fun In The Sun All Mopar Car Show. As of this newsletter flyers are out and pre-registrations are coming in, we have decided on the cars for the show t-shirt, insurance binder is in the works, I will be visiting Chilhowee Park to finalize our contract next week, and several items for our goodie bags are here. I will be collecting door prizes starting next week. We are still in need of trophy sponsors. I will have invoices at the May meeting. Also, Dollar Bill race items and Kid s door prizes. If you have any questions about sponsorship or talking to folks about a door prize, see me after the meeting or drop me an . I ll be glad to help. Now is the time to get our car show flyers out at every show/cruise in you attend. Let s get the word out! May Meeting: proof the t-shirt design, sign up sheet for Day of Show jobs June Meeting: sign up for a Day of Show job, walk through the car show set up. All sponsorship monies are due. June 20 - Workers meeting: Door prizes and goodie bag items are due. Final walk through of the show. Go over all jobs and responsibilities for the day of the show. June 24 - Day of the show. Set up begins at 6:00am. Club members are asked to wear their ETM club t- shirt. You Never Know When It s Going to Happen - Over the years I have been asked why we need security at our car show? Why do we need to section off areas for the cars? Why do we need extra people (Chilhowee Park employees) to help out? Why can t we do burnouts? Why can t we do this? And so on Well, if you attended the car show at Regal Theater or saw the news you would see why. At any event that involves cars and people, extra precautions need to be in place. Do we love to see fast cars? Burnouts? Yes. Who doesn t. But a car show that is not set up to allow burnouts or held at a drag strip to accommodate high speeds is asking for trouble. I am glad that no one was injured. The Viper was severely damaged after loosing control and hitting some trees. 6 Page 6 Too Fast, Too Furious By: Chris Yaroch I tend to have bad habit of repeating myself. In previous issues of the club newsletter, I pointed out we are witnessing a horsepower war between the big 3, Mopar, Ford and General Motors. I may have been a tad premature in in making that statement. Let me correct that, as of March 31 st HOLY CRAP! WE RE IN THE MOTHER OF ALL HORSEPOWER WARS!!! Why March 31 st? That was the date the all new Dodge Challenger Demon was unveiled at the New York International Auto Show. Back in January, Dodge was putting out teaser videos letting us know that something even badder than the Hellcat was on the horizon. As some of you may know, this whole race for horsies (you like the pun???) started back around 2003 when Chrysler Corporation release the 3 rd Generation Hemi engine. This new incarnation was a stout 5.7 liter (roughly 345 cubic inches for us real gearheads) engine that, stock, would pump out 345 horsepower. For those that remember the real muscle car days, 300 horsepower was the benchmark! They started by dropping them into the Dodge Ram series trucks. Then, Dodge made the bold move to squeeze them into the latest incarnation of the Dodge Magnum. Ma Mopar was about to up the game Chrysler Corporation kept raising the bar, with the release of the Dodge Charger in 2006 and the Dodge Challenger in The horsepower race took off straight out of the starting blocks when Chrysler introduced the 3.5 liter V6 (250 hp), The 5.7 liter Hemi (375 hp) and rounding it out with the 6.1 liter Hemi (425 hp) stuffed into the SRT8s. Chrysler took it one step further, dusting off the old classic Mopar muscle car colors and offered up R/Ts and Super Bees! Though, initially slow, Chevy and Ford took notice and started producing Camaro and Mustang offerings to compete. As the horsepower war started to ramp up, Chrysler unveiled the Dodge Charger Pursuit Package equipped with the 5.7 Hemi engine. It was officially clocked at 150 mph, making it the fastest production police car in the country. It unseated the previous title holder, the 1969 Dodge Polara, by a mere 3 mph. Ma Mopar was just getting started. In 2011, Chrysler released the Pentastar 3.6 liter V6 engine with a whopping 300 hp and the 6.4 liter Hemi which cranked out 485 hp. History was made when Chrysler created a production V6 that broke the 300 hp ceiling and reintroduced a 392 ci. Hemi engine. Ford and Chevy were working hard to keep up. But, Mopar had another trick up their sleeve Chrysler dusted off The Scat Pack line in 2014 and introduced upgrade parts for the 5.7 liter Hemi. The Scat Package, as it is called, comes in three stages. Combining all three stages with the 5.6 liter Hemi, produces a grand slam of 485 hp! But. wait there s more! In 2015, Chrysler Corporation concocted the crazy idea of a production, street-legal, drag car. Dodge combined the 6.2 liter Hemi with a supercharger and unveiled the Dodge Challenger and Charger Hellcat. This bad boy was capable of pounding out 707 hp! This car was viewed as the modern day version of the super stocks. A car manufactured like this hadn t been seen since the late 1960s! Top end speed was estimated between mph. It didn t take long for Ford and Chevy to create their own version of pavement pounders to take down the Hellcat. Dodge wasn t done yet This year unveiled the wildest modern Mopar muscle yet. Many thought the Viper was the crowning achievement, but was viewed more as an exotic car than muscle. The Viper is in a class of its own. Dodge has dusted off the Demon moniker and unleashed the Dodge Demon Challenger. Continued on page 7.

7 Page 7 This ground shaking ride has a hammering 840 hp. It s capable of doing the ¼ mile in 9.65 seconds with the speedo reading 140 mph. Thus far, the Dodge Challenger Demon is the baddest turnkey racer Chrysler Corporation to boot! This car is so bad, when it was officially clocked doing the ¼ mile in 9.65 seconds, the NHRA banned it from all NHRA sanctioned drag races! How bout that!?! There are nay-sayers, though. Among the Mopar muscle loyalists, they view the modern horsepower war as a tad of a farce. Critics cite the showdown for horsepower has elevated into the use of bolt-on power-adders. During the first (and, as enthusiasts are quick to point out, the real) horsepower war, it was all about making ponies with raw cubic inches. What engineers realized during that period was you can only make engines so big. In the modern era, auto manufacturers have worked under the auspices of do more with less. Advances in automotive technology have come a long way. We re getting more power out of smaller engines with better fuel economy. Better technology and science has helped us in all this. To all the nay-sayers out there let us have our fun. We re witnessing another golden era in the automotive industry. Sit back and enjoy the ride! Mopar or no car! Fun Fact: if you run 91% mid grade 100% gas - you only get 808hp!
