3 All external components including motor shaft are manufactured in 304 stainless steel. This gives excellent resistance to corrosion. No paint to flake off and chemical proof gives a durable solution for hygiene. Rated to IP66 the Marlin stainless is a proven design for CIP areas and washdown situations. A double lip seal and a second GAMMA seal fitted on the shaft is one example of the attention to detail for potential ingress areas of the motor. Unlike standard motors the Marlin stainless range has no cooling fins, it has no paint to chip or flake off and it has no surface that will rust. This means that waste products can be washed away easily leaving no residue and the motor can be used with confidence in food processing areas. even the rating plate is engraved on the outer casing to reduce areas where bacteria can lurk. 4 "T" drain hole plugs Marlin Stainless are supplied with specially designed T drain plugs. These should replace one of the four quadrant grub screws on the endshields and always be placed on the lowest point of the motor, when installed. This is a proven way of getting any condensation out of the motor whilst still retaining the IP66 sealing. Etched Nameplates One prime area for the entrapment of waste and dirt is around the nameplates of motors and the screws or rivets that hold them on. This is eliminated by having the technical data etched directly onto the motor body. Furthermore, it is also one of the first things to corrode, get damaged and even fall off. These problems are eliminated with the etched design. NTN Blue seal bearings The NTN contact seal is unique since it uses a low-drag double lip seal to ensure optimum protection from contamination. The inboard lip makes bearing with the groove on the inner ring while the outboard lip maintains a small gap, allowing grease to pool. The result is a labyrinth through which dirt must pass, making it difficult for contamination to occur. This design also helps lubricate and preserve both contact lips. As the inner seal lip wears, the outer lip then comes into contact with its groove, further prolonging the seal's "T" drain hole plugs to release condensation and protect from high pressure water. effective life. IP66 sealing The IP rating is the ingress protection rating, basically, the higher the numbers, the tighter the protection. Marlin s high IP66 rating clearly makes the product ideal for washdown applications. Round terminal box as standard The round design of terminal box which is machined and welded directly onto the frame of the motor has the benefit of being smoother and having fewer places to trap waste and dirt. This proves once again the attention to detail from a hygiene perspective and will be seen as important as far as the factory inspectors and auditors are concerned. 6 Magnetic Cartridge Bearing Seal This compact precision-lapped, face-contact mechanical seal is optimised to prevent water intrusion from high-pressure hoses and the effects of pooling liquid on motors mounted in vertical shaft up positions. The magnetically aligning faces can tolerate greater misalignment and vibration than the standard sealing solutions, which results in extended bearing life and, ultimately, even longer life of your stainless motor. Standard IEC metric or SEW compatable. TEFC and TENV Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled motors rely on air being pulled from the back end of the motor through a fan, this is then blown over the motor body to dissipate the generated heat. Whereas, Totally Enclosed Non Ventilated motors work on the basis of more active material and better efficiencies reducing the heat generated through losses and thus negating the need for a fan at all. The TENV type are as a result of this, slightly shorter and again have cleaner lines and fewer areas for entrapment of dirt. Magnetic Bearing Seal. IEC standard or SEW drive end solution The standard IEC flange configurations are commonly required for the majority of pump, fan and gearbox applications. However, as SEW Eurodrive are a major supplier to the food industry, Marlin Stainless offer the option of the special shaft and flange dimensions required by this range of gearboxes to enable direct replacements. 7 The European standard EN , which defines hygiene requirements for food production machinery, specifies three zones for the industry: 1 Food Zone 2 Splash zone 3 Non-food zone The Non-food zone covers components which do not come in contact with foodstuffs. It is nonetheless mandatory to use corrosionresistant materials in the non-food. Some relevant Standards DIN ISO This standard defines the requirements for the design of machines. Installations represent hygiene potential risks to food which could endanger consumers. The standard specifies measures to avoid risk which must be taken by manufacturers. DIN This deals with general design principles and guidelines for hygienic food production machinery. It also contains general notes on the special requirements relating to equipment materials. Other standards in the food and packaging industry: DIN Draft standard for cleaning and disinfection. DIN Standard for the cleaning and disinfection of milk-processing plants. Clean In Place When food, beverage or pharmaceutical production plants are washed down, the motors along with other products are subjected to high pressure jets of sometimes high temperature water or even more aggressive cleaning agents. Dependent upon the severity of this washdown, many consequences can occur including failure of the motor on start up through ingress of water, corrosion of exterior or interior parts if using standard alloy or cast iron material and potential for paint flaking and contaminating the final product itself. They have C3 clearance and are locked in place at the drive end, allowing for thermal expansion at the non-drive end. 12 Remove terminal box lid using appropriate spanner turning in an anticlockwise direction. Place lid in a clean area whilst cabling and connections are being carried out so as not to damage o ring seal. Organise motor cables as per the star or delta connection required and make sure that terminal box is completely sealed from main motor body with hard resin. Undo earth stud nut and keep safe ready to make connection later. Undo stainless gland provided and feed appropriate cable through into terminal box. Fully tighten gland when completed as this forms an important part of the IP66 integrity. There is an alternative entry into terminal box if required, if this is used, remember to also move blanking plug and fully tighten. Strip back all motor and supply cables to a sufficient length to enable effective connection and feed onto each motor cable a length of shrink sleeving long enough to thoroughly cover completed connection. This will protect against short circuits should any condensation form inside the terminal box. Solder, braze or crimp appropriate cables as per normal connection diagrams for all conventional 3 phase motors. Connection will vary dependent upon your supply and starting method, we recommend verification of this with a competent electrician. Place shrink sleeving fully over connections made and heat gently with a hot air gun or hairdryer until sleeving is fitting tightly and completely covering joint. Ensure that ALL connections have this covering. Also ensure that earth wire is connected to stud and terminal nut is replaced and tightened. Replace terminal box lid ensuring that seal is in correct position and not damaged. Fully tighten in clockwise direction with appropriate spanner ensuring that lid is not cross threaded. 11

13 Electrical Connections U1, U2, V1, V2, W1 & W2 are the motor leads L1, L2 and L3 are the supply cables. To reverse the motor, any 2 of the supply cables should be interchanged.
