1 2018 Yorba Linda Elves (aka Indian Bags) Project Goal: 700 Winter Gift Bags for St. Anne s Mission, Klagatoh AZ History: For almost 3 decades Yorba Linda Scouts and The Woman s Club have provided the only holiday gift many children in the mission s service area (Northeastern Arizona) will receive this year. 4 ways you can help: 1)Shop and Create Gift Bags Do a troop shopping trip (see attached list) then fill traditional 2-gallon sized baggies lined with 12 x 14 holiday decorated paper: *Warmth *Fun *Education *Hygiene *Sweet treat or packaged snack 2) Donate all or part *700 individually packaged rice Krispy treats *700 individually wrapped toothbrushes and toothpaste *700 pencil boxes/pouches each containing Primary/Elementary s #2 pencils Mechanical pencils, black/blue pens Pencil top erasers Pencil top/pink erasers Glue sticks Glue sticks Crayola colored pencils or Crayola crayons Crayola colored pencils or Crayola markers 3) Clear out stuffed animals! New or like-new gently loved medium stuffed animals to new homes (any extra friends will be donated to the mission-supported senior s home) 4)Spread the word Pass this information on to anyone who can help make it happen!

2 Inspire your girls to finish this story with how they fill a gift bag! You just left a home with no electricity or running water and are driving in your family s truck through the desert mountains along rough roads and finally to the one main rocky road to the mission (5 mph in some places-it s rough!!!). You pass a few scattered mobile homes, hogans and tiny houses scattered across the desert. Fast food snack on the way? Nope, Carl s, Mc Donald s, Burger King, Panda Express those kind of places are 70 miles away in Gallup. You finally see the mission s playground, (the only other one is 14 miles away in Ganado). You get out, go inside and are greeted by the sight of Santa and more packages under the tree than you could have imagined. One of the helpers approaches you with a magical bag when you get to sit on Santa s lap. You open it and find. (Girls fill in what is in the package they create on your troop shopping trip!)

3 Shopping List: Place new items in 2 gallon baggie, insert label Warm Hygiene Sweets and Treats Educational (this is in addition to pencil boxes) Fun Suggested items, good for all ages! Sweater, leg warmers, ear muffs, pocket handwarmers, small blankets Think long hair care braids are common Brushes, rubber bands, barrettes, decorated bobby pins, Chapstick, dental picks/floss, body wash, soap, shampoo, conditioner PLACE LIQUIDS IN SEALED BAGGIE TO PROTECT FROM LEAKS!! *Chocolate is ok!!!, *Individually wrapped items like: gum, candy, cookies, pringles, crackers, etc. *Coupons for Mc Donald s, Burger King, Carl s Jr., Wendy s, Taco Bell (70 miles away in Gallup) Spiral notebooks, notepads, composition books, binders, folders Scissors, rulers, highlighters, Markers fine tip and broad tip Coloring books small thesaurus, dictionary *calculators Fun * card games (classic, Pokémon ok) *bouncy balls *dolls *board games *toys *crafting kits, beadie buddies *Electronic items okay (replacement batteries available 70 miles away) *Coupons for Walmart (Gallup) Special notes for kids age 3-8 Elastic head bands Watch for choking hazards (i.e. Hard candy) *Wide-ruled paper *flash cards *stickers *basic math fact games *Playdough *playdough toys *watch for ageappropriate, no choking hazards Special notes for teens *Fancy braid books *long hair accessories *fancy bobby pins *Flash drives (for school) *collegeruled paper *black, red or multi colored pens *volleyballs (currently popular) *Knee pads *handheld electronic games Please don t send Scarves, hats, turtlenecks, shorts, tank tops, mittens Hard head bands Make-up items that will crush or large packages of unwrapped items Story books, chapter books, *all about me, writing about likes/dislikes type journals *Tiny figurines *war or violence items (i.e. soldiers, gun toys,) *big eyed dolls/figurines *collection type items (they will not be able to get rest of collection) *jump ropes *cell phone accessories (most don t have phones) *internet connection required games
