24 Building The Car 1. Insert Axels into pinewood block 2. Polish Axels (Parameter #4: Polish Nails) 3. Come up with a design* 4. Cut out and shape the car 5. Paint the car 6. Weigh all parts to determine how much weight is needed to get you up to 5.0 oz. 7. Install the wheels 8. Weigh the car again to make sure it is at 5.0 oz 9. Align the car * 10. You car is now ready to race

25 Building The Car Step 3: Come up with a design Know your rules Max weight is 5.0 oz Dimensions (max 7 x 2 ¾ x 4 ½ ) Certain shapes may not be allowed Which end of the block is the front of the car vs the back of the car (Parameter #1: Center of Mass Location) Determine where weights will be added (Parameter #1: Center of Mass Location) Shape (Parameter #1: Center of Mass Location and Parameter #3: Aerodynamic) Draw the design on the template Cut out the template and attach it to the pinewood block

Have extra weights: weighted putty is good to have Bring a drill so you can quickly remove some weight from parts of the car Just drill out a few holes from the bottom
