2 The Jaguar Club of Houston s 27th ANNUAL CONCOURS d'elegance NOVEMBER 6th, 2004 The Jaguar Club of Houston, an affiliate of the Jaguar Clubs of North America (JCNA) organization, invites you to participate in our 27th Annual Concours d Elegance, sponsored in part by Ford Motor Company. The show will be hosted at the prestigious Carlton Woods Country Club in The Woodlands, Texas a fitting spot to exhibit extraordinary motorcars. The Jaguar Club of Houston is a group of individuals dedicated to the restoration and preservation of all Jaguar cars, regardless of model and year. Current membership is at 120. The officers wish to encourage all Jaguar club members to bring their cars out for this event. The breath-taking XK-140 below is owned by member Roberto Quiroz and will be at our show. Those with a competitive spirit should enter the official JCNA Championship Division and/or JCNA Driven Division classes (explained below). If you would simply like to shine and show your car for the day without it being judged, there is the Display class at no charge to JCOH members. Other British makes such as MG, Triumph, Lotus, Morgan, Aston- Martin, Austin-Healey, Bentley, and Rolls Royce.. will enter the Special Interest Class.

3 We have also created another exciting division exclusively for resident members of Carlton Woods Country Club who have a classic or extraordinary vehicle that they would like to put on display. This should bring in some very fine automobiles for us all to admire. The get-together starts on Friday evening, 6pm, November 5 th at The Woodlands Resort with a Texas-style welcome in a Fairway Pines Suite for our out-of-town friends. There are several fabulous restaurants on site for a great meal afterwards. Check with front desk for exact suite number (unknown at this time). Saturday morning heralds preparing the cars for the big event. The washing and polishing gets into high gear quite early and continues until rags down order is given and the judging begins. Car washing areas will be set up at both Carlton Woods Country Club and The Woodlands Resort. Staging of the cars will begin around 8am in the parking lot adjacent to the main clubhouse at Carlton Woods. The area will remain roped off until staging begins by Ebbe Christensen. (Passing him a coffee and donut will do wonders for your placement!). All vehicles are expected to remain in place throughout the day or until the chief judge and/or event chairmen pass the word that it s okay to depart the show area. Trophies for Special Interest and Carlton Woods exhibits will be given out that afternoon. Those of you in these classes with advance paid reservations are more than welcome to join us for the evening banquet and awards ceremony which will be held in a private section of the clubhouse dining room. We encourage pre-registration so that packets can be completed and ready for you to pick up on Saturday morning. Saturday registration and check-in will occur in the large recreational vehicle on the show site. It is also headquarters for judge s meetings, score tabulation, and general frivolity. (Please read the security sub-section in this brochure.) A wonderful lunch buffet will be set up by the staff at Carlton Woods in the private dining room. The price for this lunch is a mere $10 per person unless we can get a sponsor for this lunch. We ll let you know on the day of the show. The fine folks at Carlton Woods CC are also providing coolers of bottled water.very nice! We would like for everyone to make a weekend of it and come up to stay on Friday and Saturday night. However, if you can only come out to the show itself and plan to enter your car, please be there by

4 10:30 am. Again, please pre-register so that we can hold the proper space for your car. Remember, the later you get there, the less time you ll have for detailing! We expect that the rags down signal will be given around 11:30AM, with judging commencing shortly thereafter. Okay, enough talk; here are the specifics: ACCOMODATIONS Our host hotel is the Woodlands Resort and Conference Center where we have a block of rooms reserved for our event. Go to for more information on this fabulous retreat. They are holding a number of rooms for our group for the evenings of November 5 th and November 6 th at the reduced rate of $129 a night, plus a 13% occupancy tax. 5 Additionally, they have Junior Suites for $159; and 2-bedroom suites for $189 (and larger). We only have a minimum block of 10 rooms, so I suggest you get your reservation in early. I am told that there is no conflicting event that weekend, so additional rooms will probably be available at the same rate. All reservations must be guaranteed with a credit card. The hotel enforces a 72-hour cancellation policy so please be sure to inform them prior to this time if you must cancel. Check-in is at 3pm; check-out is at noon. (There are some other hotels along I-45 if the Woodlands Resort is not to your liking). The physical address for The Woodlands Resort is 2301 N. Go to this link for more information on each: Driving Directions From either direction, take the Woodlands Parkway exit off of I-45; exit number is 76B (or 74 if coming from Dallas). Travel west on Woodlands Parkway (in right lane) until you reach Grogans Mill Road. This should only take you 2 minutes. (The exit for Grogans Mill will resemble an exit off a freeway as opposed to just coming to a stoplight). Make a left onto Grogans Mill and stay in the right lane. Take your next right at North Millbend and you will immediately see the entrance to The Woodlands Resort on your left.

6 PARKING AT WOODLANDS RESORT We will attempt to have a special place for Jaguars to park near the front. Those arriving with trailers will park further back in parking area 3. Sorry, there is no covered parking. There is also ample parking for trailers at Carlton Woods if you want to unload there on Saturday morning. WASH AREAS There will be cleaning areas set up at both the Woodlands Resort as well as at Carlton Woods Country Club. Hoses, buckets, sponges and car soap will be available for you to use. Please bring your own specialized cleaning chemicals and rags. Final dusting and detailing may also be performed after the cars are staged at the Country Club. We also ask that you keep the number of boxes, rags, and chemicals to a minimum in the show site. After you re done, please pack it up and take it to the rear of the RV or perimeter of the site. Nothing reflects more poorly on these beautiful cars than to have boxes of supplies laying around. Let s keep the site looking nice! CONCOURS SHOW LOCATION

7 Thanks to our member Roberto Quiroz, we are indeed fortunate to be able to hold our concours at what is probably the finest private country club in Texas: Carlton Woods. It is home to two private Championship golf courses, designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazio. The Concours will be held in the parking area adjacent to the main clubhouse of the Carlton Woods Country Club. Cars will be judged in place rain or shine. There is no covered parking at the country club. The Carlton Woods is located at 61 Carlton Woods Drive, The Woodlands, TX Phone or go to for more information. A map has been provided elsewhere in this file or separately on the CD. DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS TO CARLTON WOODS CC: Coming out of the Woodlands Resort parking lot, you will make a right to go the short distance up to Grogans Mill Rd. Make a left onto Grogans Mill and go up to Woodlands Parkway. Make a left onto the Woodlands Parkway (you may need to go under a little overpass). The drivetime from Grogans Mill to Carlton Woods Dr. is about 7 minutes (due to a few lights). Make a right on Carlton Woods Dr. (at the stop sign) and proceed straight until you get to the security gate. As you travel through the beautiful grounds (wondering why you aren t living there), you ll come up on some specific signs directing you to the clubhouse/show site, or to trailer parking, or to car wash areas. We hope to make this as easy as possible for you. The staff at Carlton Woods CC is very excited about this show and they are being very supportive in making preparations for us. Our show site is at the foot of their clubhouse, and we have been given their entire main parking area for cars and trailers. Their entire membership of Carlton Woods CC will receive an about this car show, and highresolution flyers will be posted throughout the facility. So we should get a good amount of walkthrough traffic as well as some wonderful entries from Carlton Woods. A multi-person golf cart is being made at our disposal for the day for folks who need to be shuttled to their car or trailer, or for judges to use. This cart can be used to take your boxes of cleaning supplies back to your support vehicle.

8 Security Issues Keep in mind that this is a private community, and the security guards do have a job to do. All participants in the show MUST display a security pass to get through the gates, even if you are driving a show car. This includes persons in support vehicles, spouses, friends, etc. Even if you just plan on coming out to view the cars or to help out, you need a pass. If you do NOT have a pass, the guards will have to get your name and license plate number before you can proceed. You will have in/out privileges with this pass. Where is this pass? It s on this disc as a separate file for you to print! This pass WILL NOT be available on our website! QUALIFICATIONS The Concours is open to all privately owned cars. No commercial entries please. JCNA Championship Division There are five entry divisions: These cars are judged with bonnet open and boot open. All areas of the car except the suspension are judged for cleanliness and authenticity. These cars have usually been completely restored or are driven regularly and immaculately maintained. Some of these cars are among the best in the nation. Winners to be announced and trophies awarded at the Awards Banquet that evening, including Best Jaguar of Show. JCNA Driven Division These cars are judged with the bonnet and the boot closed, but must be powered by a Jaguar engine. Judges are required to see engine. Only the exterior and interior of the car is judged for cleanliness and authenticity. This is a popular division for those who drive their car

9 on a regular basis, and who haven t restored their engine compartment. Winners to be announced and trophies awarded at the Awards Banquet that evening. JCOH Club Class (display only) Houston Club Jaguar cars that are for display only. Owner decides how he/she wants to display it. Cars are for the enjoyment of the crowd as well as for the member/owner, and are not judged. Special Interest Class This class is for all other British cars such as Lotus, MG, Triumph, Aston-Martin, Morgan, Rolls-Royce, etc. (no Carlton Woods residents, please). These cars are not judged for authenticity, only cleanliness and show appearance. Owner decides whether or not the engine is shown. Trophies will be awarded in this class, and presented at end of show. A $10 fee per car will be charged for insurance purposes (JCOH members exempt). Carlton Woods Class This class is for Carlton Woods residents/members only. Any classic or modern car is acceptable. These cars must remain in place for the duration of the show. These cars will be judged for cleanliness and show appearance. Trophies will be awarded in this class, and presented at end of show. A fee of $10 per car will be charged for insurance purposes (JCOH members exempt).

10 REGISTRATION Registration forms are provided in this CD brochure, or they can be downloaded from the Jaguar Club of Houston website, Please be sure that all information is filled out correctly and completely and mail it in along with your check. Registration will be open on Saturday (until 11:30am) of the event. Due to the tremendous amount of activity going on during these two days, we sincerely request that you mail your registration forms as early as possibly (and save yourself the late fee). Please check-in on Saturday morning at the large RV parked at the show site. If you are running short of time, please give us a phone call or send an to reserve a spot you can pay Saturday morning. GENERAL RULES OF CONCOURS The Concours will be held rain or shine All cars must be road worthy. JCNA Championship Division and JCNA Driven Division cars will be judged by JCNA rules of competition. JCNA Championship Division cars may be trailered to the Concours but must be driven onto the Concours staging area. JCNA Driven Division cars cannot be trailered or towed to the Concours.

11 JCOH Club (Display) Division and Special Interest Class cars may be trailered to the Concours but must be driven onto the Concours staging area. The owner or member of the immediate family must be present when their car is being judged unless otherwise arranged with the Chief Judge. Component team judging will be employed with three judges; each judge assigned an area of the car based on his knowledge of the class. The decision of the Concours head judge is final. Protests must follow JCNA procedures. Commercial entries and exhibits will be prohibited with the exception of Concours sponsors or those exhibits with prior permission. Please, no for sale signs on the cars. CURRENT JCNA DIVIONS AND CLASSES: Please note that classes have changed a bit from years past, so make sure you have chosen the right class. On this CD is a folder named JCNA Concours Rulebook. These files link to the JCNA website, and provide you a PDF file for reading and printing. If you re new to concours shows (or even if you re a veteran), it would be a good idea to read some of the more pertinent pages of this rulebook in regards to judges and entrants do s and don ts. JCNA CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION CLASSES Cars will be judged in accordance with JCNA rules. Cars in this division receive the most comprehensive judging. You'll find next to perfect non-driven show cars in this division. However, it's not a requirement that you have a non-driven show car to enter this division. All areas of the car will be judged except the underbody. Authenticity of components is extremely important. For example, non-authentic hose clamps are cause for point deductions. You will be competing against some of the best cars in the nation. Also note the judging guides for Series 1 and Series 2 E-Types.

15 TROPHIES Judging results of both JCNA Championship and Driven Division Classes entries will be tabulated and held secret by Guido & Soprano Assoc., and announced that evening at the awards ceremony after an exquisite dinner at the Carlton Woods clubhouse. Best Jaguar of Show will also be presented. Please note that all JCNA entries will qualify for BJOS, and will not necessarily be determined by score alone. If you are not present and have won an award, it will be mailed to you. Score sheets will be mailed to all JCNA entries (we promise). Trophies will be awarded in Special Interest Division and Carlton Woods Division that afternoon at approximately 3.45pm. There will be a Judges Choice award in Special Interest and a Best of Carlton Woods in the Carlton Woods Division. 17 THE AWARDS DINNER: As mentioned above, all JCNA judging results will be announced after dinner, and trophies presented. A cocktail reception will begin at 6pm in a private area adjacent to the dining room. Jaguar memorabilia will be on display as well as some audio/visual presentations. This area overlooks the well-manicured grounds of the country club and is quite spectacular. There are outside areas as well. A manned bar will be set up for soft drinks, water, wine, and cocktails. (If you choose to join us for alcoholic cocktails during this period and during dinner, please select this additional option in your dinner reservation). Again, cash and or credit cards cannot be accepted, as this is a private club. The Carlton Woods Chef has prepared the following fantastic menu for this event: Appetizer Porcini Mushroom Crusted Maine Cod with asparagus puree & lobster broth Salad Warm Spinach Salad with red onion, bacon & sherry vinegar dressing Entree Petit Filet Mignon with Gulf Shrimp Scampi Served with duchess potato, glazed baby carrots, French green beans & Chardonnay garlic butter sauce

18 Dessert Hot Molten Chocolate Cake Served with vanilla bean ice cream & fresh seasonal berry compote (Should you have special dietary needs, please let us know in advance, and we will do our best to accommodate) AREA ATTRACTIONS For those of you who would rather walk a mall than detail a car, the Woodlands Mall may be something for you to check out. The Woodlands Resort offers shuttles to the Mall and back at predetermined times. Check with the front desk. Our club will also subsidize any shuttles needed between The Woodlands Resort and Carlton Woods. COMMERCIAL CAR WASH / DETAILING SHOPS I have been asked about commercial car wash places in the area of The Woodlands. I have not explored the area well enough to find one of those high-pressure wand places, but I m sure they exist somewhere along I-45. However there is a place in the Woodlands called OASIS Car Wash, and they probably do hand-washes and detailing. Assuming they do so, I d make an appointment. They are located south of the corner of Panther Creek and The Woodlands Parkway. They only have a corporate website, so it isn t much help for The Woodlands. Oasis Car Wash, 4420 S. 19 LAST BUT NOT LEAST As many of you know, it takes a lot of time and effort to plan and execute one of these events. We do this not for ourselves, but for the members of the Jaguar Club of Houston and our sister clubs across Texas. We hope that you can support our efforts by participating in some way. We would really like to see a lot of our member s cars in the field. Don t be intimidated by the idea of your car being judged. It s not as painful as it sounds. Actually, you ll find that it s a lot of fun, and a great way to learn how these cars are judged. Most deductions will come from dirt or grease being present on your car. Yes, it may require an effort on your part to clean and detail your car, but heck, your Jag deserves it anyway, right? Most of all, we re out to have some fun and camaraderie. If you just want to put a car in the Display class, then that s okay too. This is also an opportunity for those of you with the newer model Jaguars to get an up close and personal look at some of the heritage cars like the XK-120, E-Type (XKE), and early saloon cars like the MarkII. But if you don t want to enter a car, we could sure use a little help in some other areas.
