2 Section I Introduction NextGen Team Work Station This manual contains installation, operation and care instructions and user service information for the DentalEZ NextGen Team Work Station (TWS) Cabinet Mounted Delivery Unit. The TWS Unit is available in two standard configurations: (1) Duo instrumentation with both doctor's and assistant's controls and (2) assistant's only instrumentation. The TWS Unit is designed to provide trouble-free service when installed, operated and maintained according to the procedures set forth in this manual. To ensure correct installation, carefully read all the procedure instructions contained in this manual paying close attention to all notes, cautions and warnings. Before proceeding, please review the photo on the next page to become familiar with the basic components of the TWS Unit. After the TWS Unit is installed, please review the operation procedures and care guidelines with the doctor's staff. Then leave this manual in the doctor's office for future reference. 4 Section I Introduction Unit Features The TWS Duo instrumentation unit has a pivoting work surface that holds both doctor and assistant instrumentation. The instrumentation is independently adjustable for a wide range of positioning options. The thin, tapered work surface is designed for ease of use during procedures and can be placed over the cabinet counter top and out of the work area when not in use and offers the following benefits: Die-cast aluminum pinch valve system provides long-term reliability Individual handpiece flush, and coolant water control knobs are easily accessible Optional clean water system Doctor's Controls Height adjustable controls can easily be moved from left to right without any tools Individually adjustable handpiece hangers offer the flexibility to hang each instrument to the precisely desired position Unit is optionally expandable to six handpiece hangers (four standard) and two static hangers (one static is standard). 5 Section II Pre-installation Packaging The TWS Unit components are packaged and shipped according to the shipping configurations on this page. NOTE: Be aware that some cartons are shipped with packing inserts that may be empty (even if optional components are ordered). Please verify the TWS Unit components packaging contents against the packing list. All parts supplied are necessary for proper installation, so be sure not to discard any hardware or components until installation is complete. 6 Section II Pre-installation NextGen Team Work Station Utility Service Compartment Utility Service Compartment 1. To allow for easier access into the utility area, remove the two center doors on the TWS cabinet. Do this by depressing the button located behind each hinge (two on each door) to release the doors from the cabinet. 2. Using the pilot holes in the cabinet back wall panel and the wood screws provided in the utility supply bag, install the two regulator brackets. Orientate each bracket according to the picture below. 3. Install the poppet valve clip (from the poppet valve assembly) in the indicated location. NOTE: For reference, a color-coded tubing diagram can be found in the assembly literature. Air Regulator Bracket Plumbing Contractor's Procedure 1. Find and open the utility supply bag. 2. Using the full-size USC template (PN: ) (found in the assembly literature), orient the air stop valve, water stop valve and brass elbow (as indicated in the picture below) and stub through the floor. 3. Sweat the air and water valve adaptors and elbow to the air and water stubs. IMPORTANT NOTE DO NOT DISCARD the USC template after use. Neatly refold it and place it in the back of this manual Air Fitting Assembly Air Stop Valve Water Actuator Valve Assembly Water Stop Valve Brass Elbow Poppet Valve Clip Electrical Box Water Regulator Bracket 4. Apply the appropriate thread sealant to the valve adaptors and install the stop valves. 5. Flush the air and water lines to remove trash and debris from the lines. 6. Connect the water actuator valve assembly to the water stop valve as shown in the photo above. Using a 5/8" open-end wrench, tighten the nut securely. WARNING Before proceeding with plumbing installation, comply with and maintain all applicable utility codes and regulations. To ensure compliance with local building codes, utilities should be installed by licensed plumbers only. 7. Connect the air fitting assembly to the air stop valve as shown in the photo above. Using a 5/8" open-end wrench, tighten the nut securely. 8. Sweat the HVE adaptor to the correct orientation as shown in the USC template. 6 Installation, Operation and Care Manual

7 Section III Installation Air & Water Regulator 1. Locate the air regulator assembly in the utility supply bag (should include air regulator, poppet valve assembly and tubing). 2. Place the air valve assembly on the left side bracket, then secure using the nut provided. 6. Install the water regulator assembly as shown in the picture below. Place the poppet valve assembly into the clip as indicated in the photo above. 4. Using the compression fitting provided, run the 1/4" red, non-translucent tubing to the air valve assembly located on the air stop valve. 5. Connect the 1/8" yellow tubing from the poppet valve assembly to the 1/8" barb on the water actuator valve assembly. Then secure using a 1/8" tubing clamp. 7. Connect the 1/4" green water line to the 1/4" barb on the water actuator valve. Then secure using a 1/4" tubing clamp. If there is no power module, plug the remaining 1/8" yellow tubing from the poppet valve with a 1/8" plug. NOTE: For an assistant only unit, remove the 1/4" red tubing from the poppet valve assembly. 8 Section III Installation Swing Arm 1. Obtain the leveling plate found in the mounting supply bag. 2. Align the leveling plate with the studs located on the underside of the cabinet's surface top. 3. Sandwich the leveling plate between the cabinet top and the bracket attached to the shorter arm of the swing arm assembly. Then secure the components using the 5/16" screws provided in the mounting supply bag. 4. Place the smaller spacer over the pin of the long arm assembly and place the long arm assembly into the bushing of the short arm assembly. 5. With the long arm installed, pull on the swing arm assembly so it is as long as possible. Cabinet Top NextGen Team Work Station Doctor's Unit Head & Umbilical 1. Place the delivery head into the bushing and large spacer on the long arm insuring the unit head is flush with the spacer. 2. Route the umbilical from the unit head through the two brackets attached to the swing arms. Then run the umbilical down the back of the cabinet. 3. Using a 1/8" tubing clamp, attach the 1/8" red line from the umbilical to the 1/8" barb on the left side of the poppet valve. 4. Attach the 1/8" yellow from the umbilical to the 1/8" barb on the right side of the poppet valve using a 1/8" tubing clamp. 5. Using a 1/4" tubing clamp, attach the 1/4" green line from the umbilical to the 1/4" barb on the right side of the water regulator. Umbilical Long Arm Small Spacer Short Arm Large Spacer Attach 1/8" Red from Umbilical Attach 1/4" Green from Umbilical Leveling Procedure 1. Using a level, check to see if the arm is sitting level. 2. If the arm assembly is not level, use an Allen wrench to adjust the leveling set screws located in the square bracket of the short arm. 3. Once the arm is level, obtain the large spacer found in the mounting supply bag and place the spacer on the end of the long arm. Attach 1/8" Yellow from Umbilical Doctor's Unit Work Surface/Lid 1. Place the doctor's work surface/lid onto the unit pan. (The angled corners should face toward the patient.) 2. Using the seven #8 screws provided in the mounting supply bag, attach the back hinge to the unit pan. 8 Installation, Operation and Care Manual

Lift the lid and Support Hinge locate the two support hinges inside the pan. #10 Screws Unfold the and Washers support hinges and attach them to the lid using the #10 screws and washers provided. 4. Close the lid and insure proper function of the hinges. Assistant's Only Unit Top & Umbilical 1. Place the assistant's unit's top on the floor bottom side up. 2. Use the four large bolts attached to the assistant's arm bracket to secure the assistant's arm to the top. 3. Use two #10 screws to attach the master/ water bottle bracket to either the left or right side of the top. 4. Use the clamps provided to secure the tubing from the master/water bottle bracket to the unit surface. 5. Place the unit work surface with the attached arm and bracket into the bushing and large spacer on the long arm insuring the unit head is flush with the spacer. 6. Route the umbilical from the unit head through the two brackets attached to the swing arms. Then run the umbilical down the back of the cabinet. 7. Using a 1/8" tubing clamp, attach the 1/8" red line from the umbilical to the 1/8" barb on the left side of the poppet valve. 8. Attach the 1/8" yellow from the umbilical to the 1/8" barb on the right side of the poppet valve using a 1/8" tubing clamp. 9. Using a 1/4" tubing clamp, attach the 1/4" green line from the umbilical to the 1/4" barb on the right side of the water regulator. 10. Using a 1/4" tubing clamp, attach the 1/4" red line from the umbilical to the 1/4" barb on the poppet valve assembly. Foot Control NOTE: Assistant's only unit does not have a foot control. 1. Insert the foot control tubing in the hole at the bottom of the cabinet, left of the center. 2. Pull the tubing through until the ends are easily accessible. Umbilical from Unit Foot Control Tubing 3. Connect the last 1/4" red line from the poppet valve to the supply for the foot control, which is indicated by an arrow. 4. Connect the 1/4" red line from the umbilical to the remaining 1/4" fitting on the foot control. 5. Using the quick connect fittings, connect the 1/8" blue and 1/8" black line from the umbilical to the corresponding foot control tubing. (Refer to the tubing diagram.) 6. Pull the foot control tubing out from the cabinet until it is at the desired length. Clean Water System The clean water system comes factory pre-installed on the master/water bottle bracket for the assistant's unit. For the doctor's unit, just screw the water bottle to the assembly. 10 Section III Installation Assistant's Arm 1. Route the long piece of corrugated tubing found on the assistant's arm through the two brackets of the swing arm. Insure the corrugated tube lies under the umbilical and route the corrugated tube down the back wall. 2. Route the tubing through the bottom half of the clamp located on the assistant's arm. (Clamp may need loosening.) Clamp Air/Water Line Assistant Arm Corrugated Tube Swing Arm Bracket Solids Collector 3. Ensure the air and water line for the assistant arm runs above the corrugated tube. 4. Install the corrugated tube to the open vacuum port on the solids collector. 5. Attach the remaining end to the HVE elbow located near the stop valves. NextGen Team Work Station Assistant's Arm Accessories Saliva Ejector (SE) 1. Connect the SE valve to the 1/4" SE tubing. 2. Hang the SE valve in the instrument holder. 3. Connect the tubing to the open 1/4" port under the solids collector in the assistant's arm. High-Volume Evacuator (HVE) 1. Connect the HVE valve to the 1/2" tubing. 2. Hang the HVE valve in the instrument holder. 3. Connect the tubing to an open 1/2" port under the solids collector in the assistant's arm. Closed 1/2" Port Instrument Holder 1/2" HVE Tubing SE Valve 1/4" Tubing HVE Valve 1/2" Tubing Corrugated Tube Foot Control (?) HVE Elbow 6. Make sure there is enough slack in the umbilical and corrugated tube for the TWS Unit to have full movement. 7. Once installation is complete, place the board with the cutout back into the cabinet to cover the access hole and reinstall the cabinet doors. 4. If an optional second high-volume evacuator valve is used, do the following: a. Insert a sharp, pointy object into the closed 1/2" port under the solids collector and create a smooth opening. b. 11 Section III Installation Air/Water Syringe (Optional) 1. On the underside of the assistant arm housing, connect the male and female quick connect fittings to the syringe. 2. Hang the syringe in the instrument holder. Air/Water Syringe Quick Connects 1. Unplug all cords from the receptacle in the USC. NOTE: For connections, refer to the power module wiring diagram found in the assembly literature. 2. Using the supplied cable, connect the main harness from the umbilical to the power module. Unit Top Power Module (Optional) Air Regulator Water Regulator 3. Using the tubing clamps supplied, connect the 1/8" yellow air line from the poppet valve to the 1/8" barb on the power module. Then disengage the pinch clamps. 4. After checking all the plug connections, reconnect the power plug into the receptacle in the USC. 5. Attach the green ground of the main harness to the power module. NOTE: It may be necessary to remove an existing screw and reinsert the screw with the green ground wire terminal attached. NOTE: Make sure the air valve in the USC is open. 6. At the delivery head, turn the master switch to ON and ensure power is available at the power module. Fiber Optics - Electrical (Optional) NOTE: For fiber optics electrical connections, see the wiring diagram in the assembly literature. All connections except for wiring have been made at the factory. 1. In the USC, plug the connector of the black and white wire leads from the umbilical into the fiber optic power pack transformer. 2. Plug the power pack transformer into the standard electrical receptacle. Poppet Valve Power Module Fiber Optics Box HVE Tube NextGen Team Work Station 11

12 Section III Installation NextGen Team Work Station Syringe Tubing 1. Hang the syringe valve in the holder. 2. Connect the air and water lines to the appropriate male and female connectors on the delivery head chassis. 3. Connect the syringe to the valve body and install the nozzle tube assembly following the instructions in the owner s manual supplied with the syringe. Electric Handpiece (Optional) To complete this factory-installed option perform the following steps: 1. In the USC, connect the blue and gray wires of the arm assembly to the purple and gray wire leads of the umbilical harness. Strip the blue and gray wires from the arm assembly approximately 1/4" then crimp on a 1/4" male spade connections. 2. Connect the blue wire to the purple wire lead of the umbilical harness. (This is for the 24V circuit of the power module.) 3. Connect the two gray common wires together. NOTICE After completing all tubing installation, make certain all tubing is properly connected and does not interfere with other parts. 12 Installation, Operation and Care Manual

13 Section IV Testing Delivery System Utility Service Compartment 1. Turn on all services supplying the USC. 2. Open the air and water manual stop valves by turning the knobs counterclockwise. 3. Inspect all joints and connections for leaks. 4. Plug the power cord from the USC into an electrical outlet. 5. Turn the master switch ON. 6. Inspect for leaks in the service console and delivery head. Air and Water Filter/Regulators If the regulators are not set at 80 PSI for air and 40 PSI for water, do the following adjustment process: NOTICE The air regulator is factory preset to deliver 80 PSI. The water regulator is preset to deliver 40 PSI. 1. Pull the locking knob and turn the adjustment knob on each regulator until the correct pressure reading is reached. 2. When finished, push the locking knob down. Foot Control & Handpieces Chipblower If the handpiece utilizes coolant air, a burst of air should be delivered to the handpiece when the chip air valve is depressed. CAUTION Before utilizing handpieces, all air must be purged from the coolant water lines to allow the system to function properly. Coolant Water Lines 1. At the foot control, flip the toggle valve to WET. Wet WET/DRY Toggle Valve 2. Purge air from the coolant water lines for each handpiece as follows: a. Make sure master switch is in ON position. b. Open the water coolant valves to their full, open position. Water Coolant Valves Open c. Pick up a handpiece tubing and lay the end into a sink or cuspidor bowl. d. Simultaneously depress the foot control disc and hold the flush valve toggle, located in the back of the delivery head, in the flush position. Let water flow until all air has escaped. e. Return the handpiece tubing to its holder. f. Repeat steps c. through e. for each additional handpiece tubing. 3. Attach the handpieces to the tubing as follows: a. Slide the connector nut down along the tubing to expose the handpiece adaptor. b. Carefully align and insert the handpiece base into the adaptor. Then replace and tighten the connector nut. 14 Section IV Testing NextGen Team Work Station Air Pressure 1. Flip the toggle valve to DRY at the foot control. 2. To adjust the individual handpiece drive air pressure to the manufacturer's specifications do the following procedure: a. Remove the handpiece from its holder. b. Insert an air pressure gauge as indicated in the illustration above. c. Hold the handpiece, fully depress the foot control and observe the amount of air pressure delivered to the handpiece. d. Locate the air pressure adjustment screws on the bottom of the delivery head chassis. Air Pressure Adjustment Screws Syringe If the unit is equipped with a syringe, first depress the air button and then the water button to test the flow. Electric Handpiece (Optional) The electric handpiece is actuated by air pressure. So make sure air pressure is present, verify the following: Master switch must be in the ON position All electrical connections must be made correctly The power module must be plugged in at the USC. Once the electric handpiece is lifted from the hangar bar holder, operation is similar to a standard handpiece. NOTE: For operation of the electric handpiece see Section V Operation, Page 16. Fiber Optics (Optional) e. Turn the air pressure adjustment screw on the control valve of the appropriate handpiece (counterclockwise to increase pressure, clockwise to decrease pressure) until the hand-piece manufacturer's correct specification registers on the pressure gauge. Follow the test procedures outlined in the instructions included in each fiber optic handpiece package. 3. Repeat a. through e. in Step 2 to set the pressure for each handpiece. NOTE: If a low-speed handpiece is required, slide the coolant air and water restrictor over the lines on the appropriate control valve. 14 Installation, Operation and Care Manual

15 Section V Operation WARNING To prevent possible injury because of accidental operation, do not leave young children unattended. Instrument Hanger An automatic CUT OFF, can be demonstrated by placing tubing in the hanger and disabling operation for that position. Delivery System Some of the TWS Unit design features: Operation of three handpieces and a syringe. Drive air and coolant water may be adjusted individually for each handpiece. Lockout safety feature allows only one-at-atime handpiece operation. An automatic cut-off switch in each handpiece holder section disables operation for that position. Foot control toggle valve allows wet or dry cutting. Master switch turns entire unit ON and OFF. Handpiece Holder Section Instrument Hanger Automatic Cut Off Switch Each handpiece holder angle can be adjusted by using an Allen wrench to loosen two set screws in the back of each section and rotating it to the desired angle; then re-tightening the screws. Master Switch Controls The master toggle switch controls the ON/OFF function of air, water and electricity to the entire unit. Flip the toggle switch to turn ON the unit. NOTE: On the assistant's only unit, there is no electricity. The master switch is on the bracket located under the work surface. Master Switch Set Screws An oil collector/filter is designed to collect oil from the handpiece exhaust air. Periodically check the filter for cleaning or replacement by lifting the work surface lid and removing the screws that secure the filter cover. CAUTION VERY IMPORTANT: At the end of each work day and anytime the unit is unattended, make sure the master control switch is in the OFF position. 16 Section V Operation Doctor/Asst. Arm Adjustment Delivery Head Positioning To adjust the up and down tension in the doctor arm, perform the following procedure: If either arm is too easy to move up and down or if the arm goes down by itself, turn the tension adjustment screw clockwise until the desired resistance is reached. If either arm is too hard to move up and down, turn the tension adjustment screw counterclockwise until the desired resistance is reached. Tension Adjustment Screw If either arm is too hard to rotate left and right, loosen the rotation adjustment bolt. If either arm is too easy to rotate left and right, tighten the rotation adjustment bolt. Handpiece Rotation Adjustment Bolt Coolant Water Adjustment Coolant water spray to all the handpieces can be turned ON or OFF using the toggle switch located on the foot control. The coolant spray volume is individually regulated for each handpiece by using the coolant water adjustment valves located on the underside of the delivery head. NextGen Team Work Station While operating a handpiece, turn the coolant water adjustment valve counterclockwise to increase the volume of coolant water spray. To decrease volume, turn the valve clockwise. Coolant Air Adjustment Valve Coolant Air Adjustment Coolant Water Adjustment Valves The coolant air volume for all handpieces is regulated by using the coolant air adjustment valve found on the underside of the delivery head. While operating a handpiece, turn the coolant air adjustment valve counterclockwise to increase the volume of coolant water spray. To decrease volume, turn the valve clockwise. Air Pressure Air pressure to each handpiece can be adjusted to the manufacturer's specifications by following the air pressure instructions in Section IV Testing under the heading Air Pressure on Page 14. NOTE: These procedures must be done while: The master switch is in the ON position, The handpiece is out of its holder and The foot control is fully depressed. NOTE: When making necessary air pressure adjustments, refer to the air pressure gauge located at the side of the delivery head to check the approximate amount of air pressure delivered to the handpiece. 17 Section V Operation Flush System It is recommended that the tubing of each handpiece used be flushed after each patient. 1. Hold the handpiece tubing over a sink, cuspidor or open vacuum line. 2. While facing the front of unit, move the FLUSH valve toggle located at the rear of the delivery head to the left and hold it there for 20 seconds. Flush Valve Toggle Foot Control The speed of the handpiece is controlled by depressing the disk located on the foot control. A light pressure on the foot control disk causes a slow speed. Disk WET/DRY Toggle Valve Chipblower Full pressure on the disk causes the handpiece to operate at full speed. NOTE: Flushing the water line in the handpiece can be done by operating the FLUSH valve while either fully depressing or not depressing the foot control. Syringe The syringe is designed to deliver air or water, or a mixture of air and water, as required. To deliver water only, press the button on the syringe marked with a water drop symbol. For air only, press the button on the syringe with no marking. To get a spray mixture of air and water, press both buttons simultaneously. NOTE: Air and water flows are factory preset. NOTE: The coolant water spray ON/OFF function is also controlled by using the toggle valve on the foot control as described above. Chipblower If the handpiece utilizes coolant air, the chipblower feature is used to blow debris away from the cutting site by creating an air blast through the handpiece without causing the burr to rotate. To operate the chipblower, depress and hold down the valve on the upper right of the foot control. Fiber Optics (Optional) The fiber optics control is automatically activated by operating the handpiece using the foot control. NOTE: When the foot control is released, the fiber optics light will stay on for approximately ten seconds to allow inspection of the cutting site. NextGen Team Work Station 17

18 BOTTLE PRESSURE BOTTLE CITY BOTTLE OFF / ON Section V Operation NextGen Team Work Station Electric Handpiece (Optional) The touchpad overlay on the side of the delivery head controls the operation of the electric handpiece.* Press the RPM speed range selector button to choose a low, mid or high range speed setting. Three LED indicators located left of the RPM speed range selector button allow the user to see what speed setting range has been selected. To fine tune the RPM speed, press the up (+) or down (-) speed adjustment buttons left of the LED indicators. The speed will show in the RPM speed indicator readout located left of the up/down buttons. The speed indicator will show a two digit number. Multiply this number by the scale factor next to the lit speed indicator LED to determine the actual RPM speed of the handpiece. To reverse the action of the electric handpiece, press the reverse button located right of the RPM speed range selector button. 19 Section VI Care Cleaning The TWS Delivery Unit should be cleaned as follows: Wipe frequently with a damp, lint-free cloth. Use a mild detergent to clean stains. CAUTION Do not use abrasive cleaning agents. At the end of the day, turn the master ON/ OFF valve to the OFF position and clean the instrumentation. Each morning, turn the master valve ON and check the air and water system for proper operation using the three-way syringe. NOTICE SlugBuster TM solution and cleaning brushes for assistant's instrumentation can be ordered through DentalEZ dealers. Disinfecting Liquid disinfectants are recommended for use on all TWS Delivery Unit external surfaces and should be applied using a soft, clean cloth. CAUTION Avoid using disinfectants in spray containers because they may cause premature staining, discoloration and/or damage to the TWS Delivery Unit. Use extreme caution when selecting the proper chemical disinfectant for the TWS Delivery Unit. CAUTION Do not use disinfectants that contain any of the following: Iodophors Glutaraldehydes Phenols Sodium Hypochlorites NOTE: *Cavicide is the recommended disinfectant for use on all external surfaces. *Cavicide is a trademark of Micro Aseptic Products, Inc. The following charts should be used when troubleshooting operational problems. If these suggested troubleshooting procedures do not resolve the problem, see the Service Instruction on Page 23. WARNING Exercise extreme caution when troubleshooting the electrical components of the TWS Deliver Unit. When testing, always disconnect the external power. Verify proper outlet voltage in USC. Ensure master toggle valve is in O N position. Turn stop valve on and verify 80 PSI on air gauge. Check for pinched or restricted 1/4" red tubing from floor utility box to post-mounted console. Check barbs for blockage. If none, replace valve. Place the master switch toggle in O N position. Ensure clean water system gauge reads 40 PSI. Move clamp to allow water flow through line. Purge water lines. If unit was purged, replace water control valve. Place toggle in O N position. In the event that you experience difficulty with the application or operation of any of our products, please contact our Technical Service Department at our expense at DTE-INFO ( ). If we cannot resolve the issue by telephone, we will arrange for a representative to contact you or suggest that the product be repaired by a dealer service technician. If product repair or return is required, we will provide you with a Return Authorization number and shipping instructions to return the product to the proper facility. If the product is under warranty, we will ask you to provide proof of purchase, such as a copy of your invoice. Please be sure to include the Return Authorization number on the package you are returning. Products returned without a Return Authorization number cannot be repaired.
