TITLE
TITLE
Roll Stability Control Automatic Integrated into Meritor Wabco ABS Becomes active once Electronic Control Unit (ECU) senses conditions that could produce a rollover When RBS becomes active: Decrease in engine torque Retarder activation Brake pressure to all wheels of vehicle
Automatic Electronic Stability Control Integrated into Meritor Wabco ABS Becomes active once Electronic Control Unit (ECU) senses conditions that could produce directional or roll instabilities When ESC becomes active: Decrease in engine torque Retarder activation Brake pressure Greatly reduces steering pressure needed to correct Dry Slippery Dry Slippery
Electronic Stability Control Triggers Rapid directional changes Excessive speed entering a curve Maintaining a constant speed in a reducing radius curve Accelerating in a curve Sudden lane change
Automatic Traction Control Option on vehicles equipped with Meritor Wabco ABS Improves traction on slippery surfaces by reducing overspin ATC indicator lamp will flash during excessive wheel spin Works in two ways: 1. If a wheel starts to spin, ATC applies air pressure to break spinning wheel. In turn, torque is transferred to wheels with better traction. 2. If ALL wheels are spinning, ATC limits engine torque which reduces wheel spin. Deep Snow and Mud Switch NOT automatic Slightly increases permissible wheel spin ATC lamp will blink continuously when turned on Do not use for an extended period of time, as this can damage your vehicle
How do I know what my vehicle is equipped with? Scenario #1 Both lamp indicators come on at ignition and turn off after ~3 seconds. Your vehicle is equipped with ABS and ATC. Scenario #2 Both lamps come on at ignition and the ATC/ESC/RSC lamp stays on briefly after the ABS lamp goes out. Your vehicle is equipped with ABS, ATC, and Stability Control.
Regeneration TITLE Passive Regeneration Occurs automatically When exhaust temperatures are high enough and vehicle is running normally, this process occurs automatically Active Regeneration Can occur automatically anytime the vehicle is moving If the engine isn t running hot enough, extra fuel is injected into the exhaust stream to superheat and reduce the soot trapped in the DPF to ash Happens only when vehicle is moving above a specified speed Parked Regeneration Driver-activated DPF lamp illuminates when regeneration is required. Driver must activate parked regeneration or bring the vehicle to highway speeds WARNING Active regeneration can occur automatically anytime the vehicle is moving. The exhaust gas temperature could reach 1500 F (800 C), which is hot enough to cause a fire, heat damage to objects or materials, or personal injury to persons near the exhaust outlet. The exhaust temperature can remain high even after the vehicle has stopped. When stopping the vehicle shortly after an automatic regen, ensure the exhaust outlets are directed away from structures, trees, vegetation, flammable materials, and anything else that may be damaged or injured by exposure to high heat.
Aftertreatment Regeneration Video VIDEO LINK
To Activate Parked Regeneration 1. Park the vehicle away from all flammable materials, put transmission in neutral, and set parking brake 2. Start and warm the engine until the coolant temperature is at least 150 F. 3. Lift the regen request switch guard and press and hold the yellow button for five seconds. As the regen process is initiated, engine rpm increases and the HEST lamp illuminates to indicate extremely high exhaust temperatures. 4. The regen cycle will finish after 20 to 60 minutes, at which time engine idle speed drops to normal and the vehicle can be driven normally. The HEST lamp shuts off when vehicle speed exceeds 5 mph (8 km/h) or the system has cooled to normal temperature. 5. To stop a parked regen at any time during the process: a) Depress the clutch pedal, brake pedal, or accelerator pedal b) Press and hold the regen inhibit switch until idle returns to normal c) Shut down the engine Switches IMPORTANT: Driver must remain in vehicle during entire cycle. 28 Aftertreatment System (ATS) Warning Lamps Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) DPF Status Lamp High Exhaust System Temperature (HEST) Lamp Indicates engine fault that affects emissions. Vehicle can be driven to end of the shift. Call for service. Scenario #1: DPF light illuminates Solution: Initiate parked regen or bring the vehicle to highway speeds. Scenario #2: DPF lamp blinks with check engine light illuminated Solution: Initiate parked regen immediately. Scenario #3: DPF lamp blinks with red STOP lamp and check engine lamp, Solution: initiate parked regen to prevent shutdown. Scenario #1: Slow flashing indicates parked regen is in progress Scenario #2: Steady illumination alerts driver of HEST during regen process if vehicle speed is below 5 mph, or during a parked regen. If lamp is solid for an extended period (Longer than 40 Minutes) - call for service.
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Used in the ATS to lower NOx in the exhaust stream Colorless Close to odorless (it may have a slightly pungent odor similar to ammonia) Nontoxic Non flammable Biodegradable Mildly corrosive to aluminum, but does not affect the strength or structure White crystals may be noticeable around components that come into contact with DEF. The crystals are easily removed with water DEF consumption varies depending on ambient conditions and vehicle application Freezes to slush at around 12 F (-11 C) Not damaged or destroyed if frozen, and is fully usable when thawed DEF in the tank is allowed to freeze while a vehicle is non-operational Normal operation of the vehicle is not inhibited if DEF is frozen An immersion heater with engine coolant flowing through it warms the DEF once the engine is running, allowing the SCR system to operate
Optimized Idle Video VIDEO LINK
Optimized Idle Reduces engine idle time by running the engine only when required Benefits: Reduced engine idle time Fuel savings Reduction of exhaust emissions and noise Increased starter and engine life Reduced chance of dead batteries [ How do I know if I have Optimized Idle? Your vehicle will have a label on the dash, and a telltale (OPT IDLE) in the ICU. [
Two Modes of Optimized Idle Engine Mode Keeps the battery charged Maintains an engine oil temperature of ºF Thermostat Mode Activated when optional thermostat is turned on Controls set point, or desired temp of cab and sleeper Controls comfort zone, or allowed temp deviation from the set point before the engine starts When the engine is in thermostat mode, it is simultaneously in engine mode
Optimized Idle Functions Increases the set point and comfort zone Scrolls through the various functions. It can also be used to set desired temperature values. Decreases the set point and comfort zone. Sets either cooling or heating operation. If a vehicle has Optimized Idle, the previous 4 basic functions will not operate with the key in accessory mode. Optimized Idle may also turn these functions off to reduce stress on the batteries. Cab climate control fan Sleeper climate control fan Mirror heat Fuel/water separator heat Seat heat Advertising light Auxiliary circulation fan (windshield) Air dryer
Optimized Idle Functions Engine Mode Activation 1. Set the parking brake. 2. If it is open, close and secure the hood. 3. Start the engine and let it idle. 4. Put the transmission in neutral. 5. Turn on the cruise control. 6. The OPT IDLE lamp will blink, indicating that Optimized Idle is active. The system is now in engine mode and after an initial phase, in which the idle speeds up to 1000 rpm, the engine will stop and start automatically to keep the battery charged and the engine oil warm. IMPORTANT: The cruise control must be turned on once the engine is idling. If it was previously turned on, turn the cruise control off, then turn it on again.
Optimized Idle Functions Thermostat Mode Activation 1. With the system in engine mode, set the cab and sleeper heater or air conditioner controls to the highest setting. 2. Turn on the thermostat by touching any of the four buttons. The display will flash the current sleeper temperature and the previous mode. If the cab needs to be cooled or heated, the cool/heat icon will flash. 3. Choose either cool or heat by pressing the Cool/Heat button. Make sure the selection matches that of the cab controls. 4. If the heat or cool selection of the thermostat does not match that of the cab controls, the system will idle and cycle excessively. 5. Select Fahrenheit or Celsius by pressing and holding the MODE button until either the "F" or "C" is displayed. 6. Select the temperature set point by pressing the up or down arrows, as applicable.
