2 Introduction The new Cascadia is designed to be one of the safest vehicles on the road, one that protects the driver as well as other motorists. Equipped with the Detroit Assurance 4.0 suite of safety systems, the new Cascadia can actively help drivers avoid accidents. But in addition to Detroit Assurance, the new Cascadia has been designed with many other safety designs and features. Freightliner takes safety seriously and wants every driver to benefit from the advanced safety systems in the new Cascadia. Detroit Assurance The new Cascadia is available with the optional Detroit Assurance 4.0 suite of safety systems. Detroit Assurance includes Active Brake Assist that now provides full braking on stationary objects, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning with optional video capture. This proprietary safety suite includes driver-friendly controls and is seamlessly integrated into the truck s dashboard, engine and transmission electronics and can enhance driver safety by mitigating collisions. Active Brake Assist (ABA) Active Brake Assist (ABA) uses an always-on, bumper-mounted radar to automatically track the distance from the front of the truck to other vehicles on the road. When the truck gets too close to another vehicle, the driver will receive a visual alert in the instrument cluster, the radio will mute and an audible alert will sound. If the driver doesn t respond, ABA will slow the vehicle using the transmission, engine brake and service brake. In the new Cascadia, the system can now recognize and mitigate collision with stationary objects in the truck s path with full braking. Only Detroit Assurance offers full braking on stationary, never moving objects. Additionally, Detroit Assurance is the only safety system that offers warning and partial braking on moving pedestrians. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) uses bumper-mounted radar to maintain a safe following distance. ACC adjusts the cruise control speed to keep the truck at a safe distance from other vehicles in its path, allowing the truck to remain in cruise control longer. The adjustable following distance between the truck and other vehicles is displayed on the instrument cluster. Optional Lane Departure Warning (LDW) Optional Lane Departure Warning (LDW) warns the driver if the truck leaves its lane of traffic without engaging a turn signal. A windshield-mounted camera aimed at the road detects lane markers and sounds an audible alert when the vehicle crosses the lane. The LDW camera continuously records video to capture any severe collision mitigation events and provides driver performance data. It is transmitted to the SafetyDirect web portal for fleet operators and safety personnel to download and analyze.

3 Video Capture Video capture available with Detroit Assurance will record continuously in high-definition color and save the recording for a time period before and after an event, displaying 20 seconds of video for incident review. With the SafetyDirect feature, this video content, along with other driver performance data, is available for manual access via download. Side Object Detection Detroit Assurance with Side Object Detection will warn the driver if there is a vehicle on the side of the truck or trailer, via side-mounted radar that detects vehicles traveling in the 10- to 15-foot area alongside the truck. An audible beep lets the driver know whether it is safe to change lanes. Moving Pedestrian Warning With Moving Pedestrian Warning, the radar system on the new Cascadia can detect most pedestrians in motion and, as long as they stay in motion, can act to help mitigate a collision at vehicle speeds below 25 MPH. If the Moving Pedestrian Warning system detects a pedestrian in motion within the radar system s parameters for potential danger, the truck will engage in partial braking. Tailgate Warning (Following Distance) Tailgate Warning issues a visual and audible warning when the driver follows another vehicle too closely. It is independent of Active Brake Assist 4.0 and Adaptive Cruise Control radar functions. It then sends relevant information on the J1939 data bus for capture via telematics reporting. This option assists in preventing undesirable driver behavior. Detroit Connect Analytics Portal The Detroit Connect Analytics portal will provide new Cascadia owners with driver and fleet-level safety scoring and analytics on a number of safety-related factors, including collision mitigation braking events, lane departure warning events, distance violations and more. Other Safety Designs Greater Forward Visibility Always an essential consideration for safety, optimal visibility in the new Cascadia takes a leap forward through a combination of design factors that come together to benefit the driver. Thanks to a lower engine and radiator mounting position, the hood slope has increased on the new truck, providing greater forward visibility. Windshield and Door Glass The new Cascadia comes standard with a new, roped-in, one-piece windshield and one-piece door glass. By incorporating a one-piece windshield design, the new Cascadia increases wiper coverage by 12% over the current Cascadia. The one-piece windshield is constructed using an asymmetric design to allow a thicker section of glass to the front, providing increased resistance to breakage. Both the one-piece windshield and one-piece door glass offer the driver an unobstructed view to the mirrors and road.

4 LED Headlights The new Cascadia LED headlight system delivers industry-leading performance in the areas of light output and uptime. Utilizing an industry-first full-led system, the new headlight incorporates LEDs in the low beam, high beam, daytime running lamp (DRL), park lamp and turn signal lamps. The LED headlight features an impressive field of view in nighttime and bad weather conditions with its exceptional bright white light. This bright white light allows the driver to distinguish objects in the road and adjacent to the road with much better contrast, which can help to reduce eye strain. The light system also features a signature eyebrow that provides the new Cascadia with a distinctive and modern look and doubles as the DRL and park lamp. Lastly, the headlight has a unique feature that allows the amber color of the turn signal and the white color of the DRL to alternate on and off when the turn signal is actuated. Heated Mirrors Standard, heated door, hood and side mirrors with left- and right-hand remote controls allow for better visibility during winter driving and ease of adjustment based on seating preferences. Mirrors have been repositioned to offer better driver ergonomics and minimize soiling when driving in rainy or snowy conditions. ABS Brakes The federally mandated anti-lock braking system (ABS) helps drivers maintain control and steering by precisely applying and releasing brakes at appropriate intervals to prevent wheel lock-up, tire sliding and flat-spotting. Often used automatically with stability and collision mitigation systems, the integrated Jake brake allows the driver to gradually slow down the truck without applying the foundation brakes. All Freightliner trucks exceed mandated industry stopping-distance requirements. Pre-Trip Inspection System The new Cascadia offers an optional pre-trip inspection system that drivers can activate to automatically flash all exterior lights during a pre-trip overview for certainty that every light is operational. This safetyenhancing feature is useful before a trip even begins and reduces the chance for DOT violations that can impact Compliance, Safety and Accountability (CSA) scores. Side-turn Indicators/A-pillar Grab Handles The side-turn indicators and an under-door-mounted light on the new Cascadia now double as steplighting, casting light onto the cab steps to make entering and exiting the vehicle safer, as do redesigned A-pillar grab handles for additional grip and stability when entering or exiting the vehicle. Roll Stability Control (RSC) Roll Stability Control (RSC) helps maintain control of the vehicle by automatically lowering engine RPM and applying the Jake brake and foundation brakes. RSC combines ABS with an enhanced version of automatic traction control (ATC) and a lateral (side-to-side) acceleration sensor to slow the truck when a potential rollover is detected. ATC is enhanced by the addition of engine braking, and the lateral accelerometer senses when the truck is traveling too fast through a turn.

5 Enhanced Stability Control Enhanced Stability Control (ESC) enhances RSC with more sensors to prevent drifting. A yaw (rotational) sensor adds to sensors on the steering wheel and brake pedal. The system reads the orientation of the vehicle and compares that to the driver inputs. When the two do not match, indicating a loss of control, the system will slow the individual wheels as necessary to safely return control of the vehicle to the driver. Tire Pressure Monitoring System The optional tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) monitors each tire s pressure and temperature and alerts the driver if something is out of recommended parameters, helping to help prevent major tire failures. Seat Belts Standard, three-point-adjustable d-ring retractor-system seatbelts help avoid injury during a crash and make fit adjustments quick and easy, keeping drivers more comfortable and thus more likely to remain belted. High Visibility Seat Belts Optional, bright-green or orange high-visibility seat belts prevent lost time by allowing DOT officials to easily see whether the truck driver is belted. Similar to indicators available in cars, the seat belt status indicator and audible alert reminds drivers to buckle seat belts. Lifeguard Rolltek In the event of a rollover, the optional LifeGuard RollTek system inflates side-impact airbags, tightens seat belts and compresses air-suspension seats to the lowest position to prevent serious head injury to the driver. Steering Wheel Air Bag In the event of a head-on collision, the optional supplemental restraint system (SRS) helps prevent serious injury to the driver by inflating a steering-wheel airbag. Disc Brakes The new Cascadia s optional air disc brakes provide shorter stopping distances than drum brakes. When used frequently in stop-and-start urban driving or in mountain terrain, air disc brakes are not as susceptible to overheating or fade and experience less wear because they are applied more evenly than drum brakes. Grab Handles All Freightliner Trucks are designed with grab handles on the cab to make entry and egress easier for drivers and help to prevent slips and falls. Standard grab handles are black and can be ordered as an option in high-visibility yellow. Optional rubber inserts improve grip in slippery conditions for exterior handles.

6 Crash Test Requirements Freightliner cabs meet or exceed all crash test requirements to help prevent injury to a driver in an accident. Wraparound Dash The wraparound dash allows drivers to easily read and reach controls and prevent distracted driving. Gas-Assisted Hood Struts Preventing strain from supporting the weight of the hood during maintenance, gas shocks allow the driver to close and secure the hood easily and with less potential for injury. Adjustable Steering Wheel/Cruise Control Allowing the driver to adjust the position of the steering wheel to help prevent fatigue, a tilt and telescoping steering column aids in comfort. Placing cruise controls right on the steering wheel makes it easier for drivers to adjust cruise speed and respond to traffic. The stalk is mounted to the right of the steering column, putting the engine brake and transmission controls within easy reach. Wireless Bluetooth Wireless Bluetooth-capable radios help prevent distracted driving by allowing drivers to converse hands-free via their cell phones. Phone controls and driver display controls are located on the steering wheel for ease of use. Message Center The driver message center dashboard feeds critical messages to the driver in an easy-to-read position, keeping drivers informed and eyes on the road. FIT System The Freightliner In-Cab Training (FIT and FIT Step) systems offer drivers full-body workouts in the comfort of the cab. These affordable options help drivers stay in shape and get a good night s sleep while reducing fatigue.
