3 2 Cushion Systems Overview a foam filled chamber with a push-button valve allows air to escape or enter when opened. when closed, the chamber is sealed and no air may enter or escape. to adjust the contour, the seat occupant leans on the cushion and opens the valve causing the cushion to deform and fill all the hollow spots of the occupants back and relieve pressures on the bony protrusion of the back i.e. the spine. To re-inflate the cushion, the occupant merely leans forward, thereby removing pressue from the cushion, and simultaneously opens the valve. Design Advantages Almost any design can be achieved using our construction method. The valve can mate with the Semco Aerospace cable controls which can be routed to the armrest. Little to no weight or cost penalty over conventional fabricated seat foam. The finished device weighs nearly the same as the foam it replaces, either in the seat back or seat bottom. 5 4 CU Seat back cushion completely replaces the seat back foam. This unit, by itself, procides several inches of recline when fully deflated. This configuration could eliminate the need for a recline lock and the attendant strictural hardware for close pitch seat systems. Materials used exceed the requirements in FAR (a)*. 6 5 CU provides 3 inches of contour adjustment with three valves. Each valve designed to maintain, decrease pressure or bleed the cushion (depending on air pressure) with ease. The third valve also automatically reinflates the cushion over a period of ten minutes after the occupant exits the seat. Materials used exceed the requiremetns in FAR (a)*. 8 7 Cable Control Systems Overview Our back support system is remotely adjusted with a cable type control with a variety of customer interface inputs. Our traditional button type input has been designed to require less than 1 clearance from the outer panel surface. the output mates directly with the Semco Aerospace Lumbar Cushion valve. 11 10 Pneumatics Systems Overview A system comprised of a pressure source (pump) and one or more bladders Bladder - A sealed chamber or chambers configured in such a way to inflate to a desired shape when air pressure is introduced. Pump - Electric powered compressor utilized either a piston or diaphragm method of providing air pressure. Control - A switch capable of selecting an air circuit connected to a bladder. If an electric pump is utilized in the system the switch is also capable of closing electrical contact to energize the pump motor. When released, the switch rocker centers and simultaneously breaks electrical contact with the pump and seals the circuit thereby keeping the bladder at the selected pressure level. Design Advantages Significant weight savings compared to mechanical systems, manual or powered. Bladder shapes can be varied to achive support and or relief of pressure in critical areas. Low power requirements. With the use of Semco Aerospace Air Wave air sequencer, multiple bladders can provide continuous changing of pressures under the seat occupant greatly enhancing comfort. Great versatility is possible through multiple bladders and switches. Pneumatics

12 11 BL Originally designed and produced for the 1984 through 1994 Chevrolet Sport Seats as the powered three chamber lumbar support It allows individual adjustment of lumbar pressures in all three chambers Manufactured from high strength urethane sheet Mates with the Semco Aerospace CT lumbar switch/valve assembly BL This bladder assembly has a two chambered accordion style providing over four inches of inflated movement for greater adjustment capability Easy mounting to the seat by means of a semi-rigid bacvker plate. 13 12 PS volt powered piston pump capable of long continuous operation with low current requirements and low heat generation. The design provides a maximum pressure of 8-10 psi. Actuating the switch rocker in one direction will connect the pressure source to the bladder. Actuating the switch in one direction will connenct the pressure source to the bladder. Actuating the switch in the other direction will close the path to the pressure source and open the bladder to atmosphere resulting in a deflated bladder Opens a pneumatic path from a compressor to a recieving chamber such as any of Semco Aerospace s bladders. Also incorporates a single pole single throw electric power to the compressor thereby simultaneously energizing the compressor as the path is opened to the bladder. Removing pressure from the rocker will allow the rocker to return to the neutral position closing the path from the compressor to the bladder and simultaneously stopping electrical power to the compressor. Actuating the rocker in the other direction opens a path from the bladder to atmosphere thereby deflating the bladder. SC Pneumatics

We design, develop, qualify and manufacture advanced rotary and linear actuators, electronic units, and rugged power supplies for demanding applications. 18 17 PA A trunion mounted pass through linear actuator. Provides 5 inches of stroke and has linear position sensing as well as a cable actuated disconnect. The disconnect action requires a light actuation load and re-connects automatically when the cable is released. The actuator is locked when not energized and the lock is a positive mechanical lock not a friction lock brake PA An example of our trunion mount high load pass through design which incorporates the controllwe in line with the motor allowing distributed connections to the power supply As with all of our actuators it is equipped with a cable actuated disconnect and a positive mechanical lock when not energized. The stroke is 17 inches and the acme screw is a 5/8 diameter providing considerable column bending resistane under high loads. Motion Control Systems

19 18 PA The PA is a rotary actuator and as with all of our actuators is equipped with a high resolution position sensor, a cable actuated disconnect and postive mechanical lock when not energized. PA An ultra torque rotary actuator with a 3 stage gear box with a triple gear reduction.
