8 INVERTED CONE STUFFING BOXES Hercules inverted cone stuffing boxes feature unique inverted cone packing that is pressure activated by well fluids; providing a superior seal without excessive tightening. The packing is very easy to adjust and results in a more uniform and longer lasting seal. REGULAR INVERTED STUFFING BOX (IVSB) Lowest profile design Ideal for smaller pumping units Furnished with three Top Cones and one Bottom Cone. 14 STUFFING BOX ACCESSORIES LEAK DETECTOR Adapts to all Hercules classic stuffing boxes and Hercules Big Stuff stuffing boxes equipped with HPLUG Consists of the following: Pressure activated shutdown switch Meets NEC Class 1, Div. 1 requirements Provides positive shut down of the flow Easily wired to SCADA or a controller Manifold connection Two ½" ports and one ¾" port allow custom installation ¾" end cap allows easy clean out of blockage HPLUG required for installation (not included; must purchase separately) Leak Detector ANTI-POLLUTION ADAPTER (APA) CONTROL DEVICE The original Hercules leak detection system used to prevent costly stuffing box spills; used worldwide since 1975 Converts Hercules ORG to APA Can also be used with HPORG or HPLUG Durable stainless steel container Meets NEC Class 1, Div. 1 (with explosion-proof switch) Switch options: Standard or explosion-proof with NEC Class 1, Div. 1, UL, FM, CSA approvals and CE conformance mark APA Control Device Suggested APA Switch Wiring Connections Pumping Units with Electric Motors "NO" Contact (Not Used) "Common" (To Starter Coil) "NC" Contact (Connect Hot Lead) Connect Common and "NC" (normally closed) contacts in series with starter coil of motor starter. If packing leaks, container will lower, open the "NC" contact and disconnect motor starter. Pumping Units with Gas Engines "NO" Contact (To Magneto) "Common" (To Spark Plug) "NC" Contact (Not Used) Connect Common and "NO" (normally open) contacts in parallel with magneto and spark plug. If packing leaks, container will lower, close the "NO" contact and ground the spark plug. Important Note: The potential for the presence of flammable materials in the atmosphere may create a hazardous location as defined by the national electrical code (NFPA-70). Hazardous (classified) locations require the use of explosion-proof equipment suitable for the hazardous class, division and group. 18 STUFFING BOX PACKING CONE AND V-RING PACKING The most important feature of stuffing box packing is long-lasting performance. NOV continually tests new and better materials to meet the demands for ever-changing well conditions. Extensive field tests make certain new packing stands up to stringent durability and performance standards. Cone packing is available in sizes for all polished rods 1" through 1-¾" in sets of four (3 top cone and 1 bottom cone) and five (4 top cone and 1 bottom cone).
