8 DESIGN FEATURES Blow-out Proof Stem Internally inserted stem assures blow out prevention by retaining the stem in the valve at all pressures. Double Sealed Connections All joints, between two metal parts, are at least double sealed to assure zero leakage. Graphite gaskets are used at closure, gland, trunnion and stem to meet API 607 and API 6FA requirements. Anti-Static Device Spring loaded pins are installed on the stem and ball to ensure electrical continuity between the valve components. Stem Emergency Sealing Injection Two O-rings and one graphite gasket, retained by bonnet flange, ensure the stem seal. An emergency sealant injection fitting is located between the upper O-ring and the gasket. Seat Emergency Sealant Injection When seats are damaged, the closure sealant fitting allows for sealant to be applied directly to the seat. Fire-Safe Design All valves are fire safe in accordance with API 607 and API 6FA requirements. 6
9 DESIGN FEATURES Double Block and Bleed (DBB) API 6D DBB-1 -- The spring loaded seats are always in contact with the ball to provide an effective seal even at low differential pressures. When the pressure is simultaneously applied to both sides of the ball in the fully closed position, the body cavity is isolated from both upstream and downstream sides, allowing Double Block and Bleed operation. Double Piston Effect (DPE) API 6D DIB-1 -- Double Piston Effect seated ball valves are available upon request. With DPE configuration, the downstream seat will still keep the valve fully sealed, in case of failure of upstream seat. Body cavity over-pressurization can be released through a relief valve on the body. API 6D DIB-2 -- A combination of double sealing features on the downstream side and single sealing on the upstream seat is recommended. This configuration maintains the sealing capability of the valve in case of failure of the upstream seat and release of the body cavity overpressurization through the upstream seat. Extended Stem When ball valves are to be installed underground, stem extensions can be provided per customer s specifications. Drain and lube lines with grease injectors will be piped up to the top of the extension for easy access. The distance between the centerline of the bore and the operator handwheel, must be specified. Low temperature/cryogenic service special valve designs are also available with extended gas columns for applications below -50 F. Body Vent and Drain The vent bleed valve and drain plug on the body shall be as per API 6D requirement. A vent plug may replace the bleed valve. Pup Ends Butt weld end valves may be supplied with transition pieces (PUPS) to minimize any risk of seat and seal damage during welding and post weld heat treatment operations. The length of pups and matching pipe details must be specified. 7
