Control System While many competitors may control some of the system features by either a PLC or PC system, L.A.B. incorporates the latest technology to control all functions with a PC. XP or Windows 2000 OS. Equipment has invested the time and resources to optimally design a cast iron base. With a cast base, we are able to optimally use material while proving a higher dampening factor than A36 HR plate. This dampening provides a positive effect on oscillations once the impact occurs. Our 3-D modeling and finite analysis programs allow us to deliver the superior product our customers demand.

18 L.A.B. AutoShock-II System, Your choice for Shock Testing Technology. Guide Columns Chrome-plated guide columns smoothly guide the table onto the programmed impact surface with minimum friction. L.A.B. uses low friction sleeve bearings and optimally sized guide columns. This results in longer machine life and more consistent velocity change inputs than systems using larger guide columns and lower quality bearings. Safety interlock pins inserted in holes drilled in each column provide a method to support both sides of the table when the machine is not in use or when changing programmers.

19 L.A.B. AutoShock-II System, Your choice for Shock Testing Technology. Brakes The L.A.B. brake system's high response provides consistent and repeatable shock pulse velocity change inputs. Hydropneumatic brakes release the table prior to shock impact and catch the table on rebound to prevent secondary shock pulses. The brakes prevent multiple impacts if the rebound height is greater than 2 in. (5 cm). For rebound heights less than 2 in. (5 cm), the optional L.A.B. Low Impulse Kit is recommended. The brake system uses a dry nitrogen gas supply for extremely fast brake response, eliminating brake drag on the columns.

Table Positioning System Balanced hydraulic lift cylinders precisely position the table with an equal lift force on the columns to the height desired for each shock test. This proprietary design provides excellent leveling and chatter free motion of the raising table, and ensures accurate table position. A precision Height Transducer supplies the AutoShock-II control system with high accuracy and precise table positioning.

Dual Waveform Programmers Low profile dual waveform programmers are used to perform the short duration half-sine and trapezoidal shock pulses necessary for determining product fragility and establishing damage boundary curves. The gas charged cylinder used for producing trapezoidal shock pulses is built into the seismic base allowing for a lower table profile.

Short duration half sine programmers, mounted directly to the bottom of the shock table, impact the oversize flange on the cylinder when performing critical velocity tests. This design facilitates both types of pulses without changing impact devices. To evenly distribute the impact load, six programmers are used instead of one. The more evenly distributed load reduces component wear and cost, and further reduces table noise.

24 More Features on our AutoShock Remote Control System The Brake System The nitrogen pressure is regulated to apply the correct pressure to stop the table depending on the load and the pulse desired. If the Target Pressure is not correct, the drop will not be allowed and a Message will alert the operator. Controlling the Pressing during a Square Wave Pulse Test closed loop Once the correct Pressure is calculated via the L.A.B. s Shock Drop Calculator, a Target Pressure will be regulated, delivered and maintained to the Square Wave Cylinder. If the pressure deviates from the Target by more than 7 kilopascals, a drop will not be allowed and the operator will be notified.
