2 Manual Scope The Scope of this manual is to provide guidance only, with respect to the fitting of the Grid-LokTM tooling option to Siplace pick and Place machines. It has been designed as a general guide for a competent person to complete, with minimal downtime of the machine. No liability can be accepted by the publishers for any machine issues or failures, subsequent to a Grid-LokTM installation using this guide. In all cases Ovation Products recommend the use of a properly trained engineer to complete the works. The Installation Manual is intended to be used in conjunction with the Grid-LokTM Technical Manual, which is included with the kit. Please refer to this document for additional details. 3 CHAPTER 1 Tools Required Required Tools Optional Tools 1. Machine access keys (To remove machine panels). 2. Cutters (Required to trim pneumatic pipes and cable ties). 1.Double sided adhesive pad or tape (To locate Operator Interface). CHAPTER 2 Kit Description Kit Description Standard Components Your exact Grid-Lok TM kit contents will be determined by the option purchased. This typically would be with respect to the number of modules and type. All kits are supplied with a number of typical components required to facilitate fitting. Please make sure you have identified all parts required either included with your kit or fitted to the target machine. Controller, Manifold, Operator interface, Pneumatic connection cables, Grid-Lok modules and Power Supply. Controller Manifold
4 CHAPTER 2 Kit Description Operator Interface and Fixing Bracket Module Pneumatic Cables x 6 + plus additional Machine Specific Connection Pneumatic Cables Tooling modules (Number dependent on exact kit Ordered) Power Supply
5 CHAPTER 3 Preparation WARNING COMPRESSED AIR. COMPRESSED AIR SHOULD NEVER IMPINGE UPON THE BODY. PORTS, TUBING, ETC MUST NEVER BE BLOCKED BY HAND. BEFORE ANY PNEUMATIC EQUIPMENT TO A COMPRESSED AIR SUPPLY, ALL MOUNTINGS, FITTINGS, PIPEWORK AND ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS SHOULD BE REMOVED FOR SAFETY. NO PIPEWORK ALTERATIONS OR REMOVAL OF FITTINGS SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED WITH AIR SUPPLIES CONNECTED. Pre- Installation Before installing the equipment the target machine must be powered down and in a safe state. All machine safety procedures must be followed. Please ensure you are familiar with these procedures before undertaking this installation. 1. Close the system software and when it is safe to do so, switch off electrical power to the machine at the mains isolator switch. 2. There is no requirement to remove any machine panels during the install of Grid-Lok TM however access to the machine and Pneumatics enclosure will be required for routing tubes and cables. 3. Disconnect the air supply from the machine.
6 CHAPTER 4 Locating the Kit Controller Location Fit the Grid-Lok TM Controller as follows: 1. The Grid-Lok TM controller fits at the rear compartment of the Siplace machine. Ensure that the three electrical connections are facing towards you. The images on this page shows the 103_CTL control box.
7 CHAPTER 4 Locating the Kit Controller Interface Location Lay the controller by the control box so that it can be used in a maintenance mode. If the controller is used in Auto mode it is advised that the Hand Held controller is disconnected. Manifold Location Place the Grid-Lok TM pneumatic distribution manifold at the side of the machine between the input/output conveyors
8 CHAPTER 5 Connecting Up Overview The following drawing shows an overview of the Grid-Lok system connections. The actual Grid-Lok modules are not shown for clarity, see the diagram on page 12 for more details. 9 CHAPTER 5 Connecting Up Locating and Fitting Pneumatic Connectors Air Supply to Controller Locate the Pneumatics chamber, using the 8mm tube and Y connection supplied, remove the tube from the regulator and replace with tube provided, connecting the regulator to the control box. Manifold to Controller Route the 2 x 6mm tubes from the manifold to the control box connecting 1onmanifoldto1onthecontroller(akaconnection2)
10 CHAPTER 5 Connecting Up Manifold to Modules 1. Place the Grid-LokTMTooling modules on the Rising Table with the connectors facing towards the Manifold location 2. Connect the tooling modules using 4mm pneumatic pipe to the Pneumatic Distribution Module. The top connection (red sleeve) on the distribution module connects to the connection (red sleeve) of the tooling module. 3. Pneumatic cables remain connected to modules when not in use. 24 VDC To Power Supply Attach the correct international power adaptor to the included power supply. Fit the power loom, this connects between the Grid- Lok TM controller socket 24VDC and a suitably located power terminal.
11 CHAPTER 6 Specific Details and Instructions Operator Interface The operator interface comprises two toggle switches: Set/Reset -To raise and lower the tooling pins (in semiautomatic mode) Auto/Manual - Automatic or Semi-Automatic mode NOTE The Set/Reset switch is disabled if automatic mode is selected Feed 4mm twin tubes from control box through box frame
12 CHAPTER 7 Adjustments and Settings Air Control Regulator The air control regulator is fitted to the top input of the Grid-LokTM manifold and is used to adjust the air flow to the complete system for raising the pins. For example when reducing the number of modules on the table from 6 to 3, less air pressure will be required to raise the pins at the current rate, so you will need to adjust the regulator down. To adjust the air control regulator, use the following procedure: 1. Ensure the operator interface is switched to Semi-Automatic (Labeled Manual on the operator interface). 2. Release the locking nut on the air control regulator (labeled 1 above). 3. Adjust the air control regulator fully clockwise cutting off the air supply to the tooling modules. 4. Adjust the air control regulator one turn anti-clockwise. 5. Press the Set button on the operator interface. 6. If all the pins on the tooling modules do not raise fully, press the Reset! button on the operator interface and repeat Steps 4 and If all the pins on the tooling modules raise fully, turn the air control regulator a further half turn anti-clockwise and secure the locking nut. 8. Press the Reset button on the operator interface. NOTE Adjustment of the air control regulator may be required when changing the amount of tooling modules used.
13 CHAPTER 7 Adjustments and settings Module Flow Adjusters Module Flow Regulator Some Grid-Lok modules are fitted with Flow Adjustors that are factory set to ensure that all modules behave the same when adjusting the Manifold Regulator. Changing this setting is not recommended, however below is the procedure should it become necessary. Procedure for retrofitting flow adjustors to Grid-Lok modules 1. Set the flow regulator adjustment to approximately half way. 2. Attach all modules to the manifold adjust manifold flow control to approximately half way. 3. Raise and lower the pins (in manual mode), adjust the individual module flow control so that all modules behave the same. That is, the speed at which the pins raise on all modules is the same. Increase air at manifold flow adjustor as necessary. 4. The adjustment can be fixed if required using the lock nut provided.
14 CHAPTER 7 Adjustments and settings Adjusting Module Configuration The tooling modules can be configured to suit the product to be printed. The tooling modules can be staggered in the X axis and/or spread evenly in the Y axis to fully support the product to be populated. See figure below for examples NOTE Keep the tooling modules clear of the rails
15 CHAPTER 8 Sensor Location and Fitting Sensor Location Place the 077_SBA sensor under the table with the optics looking at thebaseofthemachine Feed 4mm twin tubes from control box through box frame

17 CHAPTER 8 Setting the Sensors Sensor Setting The sensor has two LED indicators and two adjustors. The operational adjuster must be set to D. With the table in the down position tune the sensitivity adjuster so that the orange LED is permanently light and the green LED just illuminates. This is correctly set! Sensor Setting Test Run the machine with everything connected, monitor when the pins come up. The pins should raise approximately 10mm from full table travel.iftheyraisetooearlythenthepinlockwillactuatebeforethe pins reach the board and compliant support will not be achieved
