5 INSTALLATION MOUNTING THE ACTUATOR Support of the linear actuator can be by either the four bolt holes in the main housing or the four tapped holes on the side of the main housing. This should be determined by the way your application is designed. Proper alignment and care should be taken when mounting the load to the tooling plate (on the face or on the side). Securing the bolts with a Loctite product is recommended. Proper load support and sizing should be used to ensure that side loads and/or moment loads are not induced into the selection of the assembly. MOUNTING A MOTOR Mounting the motor to the actuator is critical to have the input shaft clean and should be burr-free. Mount the pinion onto the input shaft by clamping the pinion onto the shaft. To do this, tighten the clamp collar on the pinion gear by alternating between the two clamp collar bolts. This motor must be able to sustain the load transmitted through the rack & pinion into the motor bearings. NOTE: Bimba recommends the use of motors with a properly sized fail-safe brake on all vertical applications. ALIGNMENTS Care should be taken when aligning linear actuators with a moving machine component. Make sure that any bending or twisting of the actuator from other machine components is eliminated or minimized in reference to the linear actuator. 5

6 MAINTENANCE GENERAL General maintenance of the linear actuators is to keep the actuator belt clean to keep dirt from accumulating inside the actuator. Inspection of the actuator, clamps, mounting hardware, and other parts should be done periodically to insure proper alignment and that the operation did not change from the initial installation. LUBRICATION The guide rods and gear rack have a composite bushing or oil impregnated with a lifetime lubricant so that no maintenance is required. 6

7 SPARE PARTS DISASSEMBLY Call Bimba before any disassembly of the linear actuator. Bimba s warranty may be voided if the customer disassembles the linear actuator. Only qualified personnel should do disassembly of the tooling plates from the guide rod and gear rack. If disassembly is required, then the rack and the pinion needs to be checked closely to insure proper alignment.
