While every attempt has been made to provide the very latest information about the RS75/RS75s, there may be some differences between your spreader and what is described here. The terms left, left-hand, and LH ; right, right-hand, and RH ; front and rear refer to directions as viewed by the operator during normal operation of the spreader. 3 Shindaiwa Limited Warranty Assembly Shindaiwa Inc. manufactures its products to superior quality standards to afford our customers the highest level of satisfaction. In keeping with this goal, Shindaiwa Inc. warrants this RS75/RS75s Spreader to the original purchaser as follows: Warranty Period The warranty period of this product is one year from the purchase date to the original purchaser, unless the product will be used as a rental, in which case the warranty period is 90 days from the purchase date to the original purchaser. Warranty Administration Within the covered warranty period, Shindaiwa Inc. will, at their option, repair or replace any defect in material or workmanship, without charge for parts or labor, if this product is presented at an authorized Shindaiwa dealer. Warranty Exclusions and Limitations Shindaiwa Inc. assumes no responsibility for damages, loss, or injury resulting from: Normal wear and tear. Misuse or neglect. Modification to or removal of original component parts. This warranty is limited to the terms stated herein. Shindaiwa Inc. disclaims all liability for incidental or consequential damages. Some states do not allow the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so these limitations may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which may vary from state to state. Shindaiwa Inc. reserves the right to change the design or specifications of this product without obligation to modify previously manufactured products. Owner s Responsibilities. The owner of this product shall demonstrate reasonable care in the use, maintenance, and storage of this Shindaiwa product. If a warrantable failure should occur, the owner shall deliver the product to an authorized Shindaiwa servicing dealer for correction. To obtain warranty service, proof of purchase must be presented to the authorized Shindaiwa servicing dealer when the product is presented for repairs. Remove the spreader and components from the carton. Place the hopper upside down on a padded surface. 2. Insert the ends of the leg into the handle brace and align the holes. See Figure.. Attach the handle brace/leg assembly to the frame using four 4-20 x 2" hex bolts, lockwashers and 4-20 nuts. See Figure. 4. Install the drive wheel onto the right-hand axle (you can identify the drive wheel by the cotter pin hole drilled in the extended hub). The extended hub must be oriented toward the frame. Align the hole on the drive wheel hub with the hole on the axle. Secure the drive wheel to the axle with a 6" dia. x 2" cotter pin. See Figure Install the free wheel onto the left hand axle (extended hub toward the frame). Insert the 5 2" dia. x 4" cotter pin in the hole in the axle to secure the free wheel to the axle. 4 Assembly, continued Figure 6. Turn the spreader upright on its wheels and insert the screen into the hopper by sliding it under the screen clips. See Figure. 7. Attach the handle assembly to the handle brace with the lever bracket tabs facing down, then install the four 4-20 x 4" hex bolts, lockwashers and nuts. Bolt 4-20 Nut and Lockwasher Screen Screen Clip 8. Slide the control lever between the lever bracket tabs, located on the handle assembly. See Figure 4. Secure the handle lever with the 4" dia. clevis pin and 2" dia. cotter pin. Make sure the lever pivots freely. 9. Install the handle grips onto the upper handle assembly. See Figure 4. Soapy water will ease installation; do not use petroleumbased products. 5 Parts Replacement parts may be obtained from your local Shindaiwa dealer. When ordering, be sure to include the spreader model number, part number and description as shown here Connect the control tube to the control lever using one 4" dia. clevis pin and one 2" dia. cotter pin. See Figure 5. 4" dia. Clevis Pin.Make sure the tab of the shutoff plate is in position on the lower control rod, then slip the lower end of the control tube onto the lower control rod. Secure the control tube with a 2" dia. cotter pin. See Figure 5. 2.Tighten the four nuts and bolts connecting the handle assembly to the handle brace that were installed in Step 7. 6 Operation Fasteners Place the spreader on a driveway or sidewalk not on the lawn. Make sure the screen is in position in the hopper and the spreader control lever is in the OFF position and locked with the hitch pin:. Determine the recommended application and spreader settings of the material to be applied (check the product container). 2. Loosen the rate control knob and slide the rate control plate until the letter code of the desired application rate aligns with the pointer. Tighten the rate control knob. See Figure 6. Always begin moving the spreader before you shift the control lever to OPEN, and shift the control lever to CLOSE before stopping. CAUTION! During operation, always push the spreader; never pull! 5. Check the delivery rate and pattern on a small area before treating a large area. Actual delivery can vary according to weather and operating variables, such as walking speed and the condition of the material. Refer to the Rate Setting Conversion chart and Spreader Settings for details. 6. Where appropriate, apply header strips around the area to be treated, then push the spreader at a walking speed about 2 2 mph (8 feet in five seconds). Space your trips across the area as shown. See Figure When transporting the spreader, make sure the control lever is OFF and locked with the hitch pin through the hole in the lever. 8. Empty the spreader after each use, and return leftover material to its original container. Header Strip Use swath width on the package, or adjust according to operators walking speed. The Fastener Bag contains these fasteners, shown actual size. Hold the handle so the top of the hopper is level, remove the locking hitch pin from the control lever and move the lever forward to begin applying the material. Avoid tipping the spreader; doing so can cause an uneven application. 7 Maintenance CAUTION! Chemical residue left on the spreader can corrode unprotected metal parts. Oil: Impeller shaft bearing in the hopper Rate Setting Conversion The following is a comparison of the settings of a Shindaiwa RS75/RS75s with the equivalent approximate settings of other spreaders. Return unused material to its original container. Wash the spreader thoroughly after each use. Remove the gear cover halves and wash the gears thoroughly. See Figure 2. Then dry completely in the sun or a heated area. Lubrication a. Oil should be applied to the impeller shaft bearing in the hopper, (Figure 2) slide points on the shut-off plate, and the spring in the housing behind the control plate, (Figure ) and the bearing surfaces in the gear assembly. See Figure 4. b. Lightly grease the axle bearings in the frame. See Figure 2. c. Lubricate the face of the gear teeth with dry graphite. Reinstall the gear cover. See Figure 4. Gear mesh should be checked regularly, especially during highuse periods. The clearance between the axle gears and the pinion gears should be very close, but not tight. If adjustment is required: a. Loosen the axle collar set screw and hold the gears together. b. Slide the axle against the gear support, then tighten the axle collar set screw. c. Spin the drive wheel to make sure the gears run freely and smoothly. Periodically clean the surface of the impeller to remove buildup of material. A buildup could cause the spread pattern to change. The RS75/RS75s rate plate is black with white lettering and the early RS75 rate plate is red with white lettering. Using the incorrect settings in this chart will result in the improper application of the product being used. This charts provides approximate settings of a Shindaiwa RS75/RS75s when only the product weight, area coverage, or inspection of the material is available. To obtain the most accurate application rate, follow the procedures described in the Effective Pattern Width and Application Rate sections. 8 Spreader Settings Calibration Instructions When determining correct spreader settings, consider: Effective Pattern Width: The actual width in which the material is applied. Label instructions and settings are useful guides, but only an actual test can provide a reliable and accurate pattern width. Application Rate: The amount of material applied per 000 square feet (before you can determine application rate, you must know the effective pattern width). Effective Pattern Width You can make a simple visual pattern test by operating the spreader over a non-turf area and evaluating the pattern. A more accurate method is to place a row of disposable aluminum cake pans about foot apart on centers, as shown in Figure 8. Set the rate control plate at the middle setting (see Operation, Step 2, page 6, ) and make three or four passes in the same Space for wheel track Direction of Operation direction. Pour the material collected in each cake pan into individual bottles or jars of the same size, then set them side by side in the order they were collected and inspect the containers. If the pattern of collected material is not equal if a left hand-bottle contains a different amount than its equivalent right-hand bottle adjust the discharge chute until the pattern is even. See Pattern Adjustment. Once the pattern is uniform, you can determine Effective Pattern Width which is Half the average amount of material in the center cake pans, multiplied by two. Pattern Adjustment The application of most materials requires no adjustment unless stated on the material container; the RS75/ RS75s is factory set at A, the most common pattern setting. If pattern adjustment is required:. Loosen the two discharge chute knobs and move the discharge chute closer or farther from the impeller as required. The discharge chute base is marked with letters A, B and C as reference. See Figure Retighten the two knobs. Discharge Chute Discharge Chute Setting Indicator Application Rate Calculate application rate as follows:. Determine the Effective Pattern Width. See the previous page. For example: Effective Pattern Width is determined to be 0 feet. 2. Determine the coverage requirement of the material to be spread in pounds per 00 square feet. This can be calculated as follows: a. Divide the weight of a container of material by the recommended square foot coverage. b. Multiply the result by 00 (add two zeros). For example: According to the label on the container, 25 pounds of material will cover 5000 square feet. Calculate average coverage requirement 25 lbs pounds per 00 square feet. Measure out an area of 00 square feet (0 by 0 feet). Weigh out 5 to 20 pounds of material and spread it over the measured 00 square-foot area, applying in 0-foot swaths (0-foot Effective Pattern Width). Weigh the material remaining in the hopper and adjust the discharge chute as required. Repeat the test until the application rate is correct. The RS75/RS75s spreader was calibrated at the factory. However, calibration should be checked periodically to ensure best performance.. Pull the control lever to the OFF position and set the rate control plate to setting A. See Figure Put the control lever to the ON position and check the port opening. See Figure. The port should be just opened. If adjustment is necessary, continue to Step.. Loosen the rate control knob and slide the rate control plate until the port is just opening. Loosen the pointer screw and move the pointer until it aligns with A on the rate control plate.
