2 Typical Occupancy DetecHon Wiring Track Sense SecHon is in Orange A train locahon on the layout is determined by using track power to indicate its presence. SecHons of outer rail are electrically isolated (orange line) and connected to the even numbered input terminal of an OIB- 8 (OpHcal IsolaHon board). The odd numbered terminals are connected to track power. When a train enters the isolated area, an electrical current passes from the un- isolated outer rail thru the trains wheel set to the isolated rail. This rail, connected to an even numbered terminal on the IOB- 8 board, completes a circuit which lights an LED on the OIB- 8. The associated ophcal sensor on the OIB- 8 relays this signal to the computer through the Tower Controller 64. 6 Tortoise Motor Pre- InstallaHon Wiring Step 1 Install.1uf Capacitor (from behind circuit board) between traces #1 and # 8. Insert wires thru board holes, bend over and solder to pads. Use LOTS of solder. Step 2 Tin board traces #3 and #4 with lots of solder Step 3 Obtain a 24 length of twisted CAT 6 wire pair. Strip one end of one of the wires of the pair and twist it with the Red wire from a 4 lead connector, Hn and solder to pad #1. Step 4 Twist the other wire from the above CAT 6 pair with the Black wire from the same 4 lead connector, Hn and solder to pad #8. 2 Pin Bi- Color LED 2 Pin Molex Socket 1K resistor 4 Lead connector (Horns toward the Motor) Splice and Heat Shrink Step 5 Install a Molex pins on the free ends of the wires from pads 1 and 8. Step 6 About mid way along the paired wires length, untwist a two inch sechon of the pair. Select the wire from Pad 1, cut this wire and install a 1K ohm resistor. Then use heat shrink tubing to enclose BOTH wires and the resistor. Step 7 Install the Molex pins on the free ends of the wires from pads 1 and 8, in a 2- pin Molex connector. Step 8 Trim the leads of a 2pin Bi- Color LED to slightly shorter than the length of the Molex connector, an insert into the connector. Step 9 Test the LED by gently moving the motor drive block and observe the LED. It should light green in one direchon and red in the other. Splice and Heat Shrink Step 10 (adding the long cable) Choose the other half of the four wire connector and run the four wires thru a 2 inch piece of shrink wrap. Install a 1 inch piece of smaller shrink wrap over the four wires, then strip and Hn the ends of these wires. Bend a hook in the end of each wire. Cat 6 Cable cut to length needed Step 11 (adding the long cable, cont.) Strip about 6 inches of sheath from a green Cat 6 cable and separate the four wire pairs from each other. Trim off both the blue and brown pairs where the cable sheath ends. Strip the insulahon from the ends of the Orange & W/Orange pair and the Green W/Green pair. Bend a hook on each wire. Step 12 (adding the long cable, cont.) Splice the Red wire to the Orange, the Black wire to the W/Orange, the Green wire to Green, and the Yellow to the W/Green. Solder then heat shrink the small tubes, then the large tube over the enhre set of four.
