INTERMEDIATE FRAME / FUEL INJECTOR WIRING HARNESS The wiring harness for the six fuel injectors and two engine brake solenoids is integral to the intermediate frame. Two 14-pin fuel injector harness connectors act as the interface between the six fuel injectors, two engine brake solenoids, and the 120-pin MCM connector. The intermediate frame is made of a plastic material with an elastomer seal. The intermediate frame is located between the rocker cover and the camshaft housing. The rocker cover bolts maintain torque and sealing integrity on the rocker cover seal and intermediate frame seal. 1. Camshaft Housing 5. Intermediate Frame 2. Elastomer Seal 6. REMOVAL OF INTERMEDIATE FRAME / FUEL INJECTOR WIRING HARNESS Remove as follows: 1. Steam clean the engine. 2. Disconnect batteries. 3. Remove eight bolts from the two air filter housing brackets and remove housing brackets from the rocker cover. 4. Remove the remaining eleven bolts from the rocker cover and remove rocker cover. 5. Disconnect both 14-pin injector harness connectors. 6. Disconnect the 24 electrical terminals at the fuel injectors. 7. Disconnect two wiring terminals at each engine brake solenoid. 8. Loosen the Allen screws holding the intermediate frame to the camshaft housing. Remove the intermediate frame. INSPECTION AND CLEANING OF INTERMEDIATE FRAME / FUEL INJECTOR WIRING HARNESS Clean and inspect as follows: 1. Clean intermediate cam frame in clean fuel oil. EYE INJURY To avoid injury from flying debris when using compressed air, wear adequate eye protection (face shield or safety goggles) and do not exceed 276 kpa (40 psi) air pressure. 2. Blow dry with compressed air. 3. Check for damage to the terminals in both 14-pin connectors. Replace if damaged. 4. Check for damage to all terminals that attach to the engine brake solenoids and injectors. Replace if damaged. 5. Inspect for missing or damaged hold-down bolts. Replace if damaged. 6. Check the intermediate frame and seal for damage. Replace if damaged. INSTALLATION OF INTERMEDIATE FRAME / FUEL INJECTOR WIRING HARNESS Install as follows: 1. Install seal into groove in intermediate frame. 2. Install intermediate frame on camshaft housing. Torque Allen bolts to 10 N m (7 lb ft). 3. Install electrical terminals to injectors and torque to 1.5 N m (1 lb ft). 4. Connect engine brake solenoid terminals and torque to 1.5 N m (1 lb ft).
5. Install rocker cover. Refer to "Rocker Cover." 6. Install the two air filter housing brackets onto the rocker cover and torque the eight bolts to 20 N m (14 lb ft). 7. Connect both 14-pin injector harness connectors. ENGINE EXHAUST To avoid injury from inhaling engine exhaust, always operate the engine in a well-ventilated area. Engine exhaust is toxic. 8. Connect batteries. 9. Start the engine and check for leaks.
