2 Electric exports and imports billion Exports Imports Exports of the German electric industry hardly changed at all in December of With 15.8bn they slightly failed their pre-year level by 0.3%. It was the first decline since July In the course of the complete last year the sector s deliveries abroad increased by 5.0% to 211.9bn. Even though the fifth consecutive record value could be achieved, last year s growth in exports was merely about half as strong as back in 2017 (+10.8%). German imports of electric products were 0.7% down over the past year in December They came to 14.6bn. In the full year 2018 imports picked up by 4.4% to 191.1bn. Deliveries to the country rose by 10.3% to 21.0bn. With 17.8bn (+4.3%) exports to the USA kept the second position. But note that the difference between the respective deliveries to both countries meanwhile exceeds the volume of 3bn. All positions from 3 to 10 continue to go to European countries of which five belong to the euro area and three not. France (+2.6% to 13.7bn) is still the third biggest customer, followed by the Netherlands (+8.1% to 11.4bn) and Great Britain (-1.6% to 11.1bn). The second half of the top ten list is occupied by the Czech Republic (+11.4% to 10.3bn), Poland (+7.6% to 10.3bn), Italy (+9.9% to 10.0bn), Austria (+3.9% to 9.3bn) and Spain (+3.5% to 7.0bn). 4 Electric exports to Great Britain % change on year earlier The German electric industry s exports to Great Britain decreased by 1.6% to 11.1bn last year. It was the first shortfall since the global crisis in In the ranking of the biggest customers the country fell from the 4 th to the 5 th place. Back in 2017 the sector s deliveries to the United Kingdom had still risen strongly by almost ten percent. From through 2017 the average growth in exports came to five percent per year Despite the decline in 2018 the impact of both the depreciation of the British pound and the rising uncertainty against the background of the upcoming Brexit on the British demand of German electrical and electronic products has only been comparatively moderate so far.
