2 Preface Dear reader, Preface A while ago, I drove a 6 x 6 chipper truck with a HEM 582 R for delivery to a customer in south Germany. After a journey of more than 550 km, the onboard computer showed a consumption of 34.8 l per 100 km at an average speed of 78.9 km/h. Converted to operating hours one can say that 27.6 l of diesel flowed through the D2676 turbodiesel injectors, which clarifies the enormous economic efficiency of this machine with regard to logistics. on a 2-axlechassis. For this range of performance, the NMV auxiliary drive in its heavy-duty version is sufficient for reliable power transmission. The machine was launched on the market at the end of 2012 and is becoming increasingly popular thanks to its low purchase costs and the surprisingly high throughput. The HEM 561 R continues to be manufactured with the same drive power, but requires a third axle due to its higher weight. That describes the range in broad outline. In the meantime our program includes four different chipper types which can be fitted on different HGV chassis. In the light class with a drive power of 360 HP we supply our new HEM 540 R The most popular chipper truck remains the HEM 582 R, or its successor, the HEM 583 R with the variable hydraulic blower. Just as the large HEM 820 R, these machines are fitted with the heaviest available auxiliary drive for which we, together with MAN, can guarantee a reliable power transmission of up to 8000 Nm. They have been fitted to the extremely all-terraincapable three-axle chassis of construction type 6 x 6, or the extremely manoeuvrable 6x6-4 chassis type, and are driven with engines of up to 540 hp. 02

4 HGV driver s cab HGV driver s cab Forget a normal lorry cab and take a seat in this driver s cab. The space available and the excellent view are setting standards! The driver does not have to leave the cab to change between driving and chipper operation. Just quickly change places to a rotating seat, and off you go. From here, you have an unobstructed view of the fitted chipper draw-in area. 04

5 HGV driver s cab All the operating elements are ergonomically arranged. Cameras allow monitoring of locations which cannot be seen directly, for example the delivery pipe or the rear of the HGV. The driver s cab is sound insulated and air-conditioned. This means that you can get down from the cab completely relaxed, even after a long day at work. 6 HGV chassis HGV chassis The chipper truck concept is just as simple as it is ingenious. The trip has been fitted to a compact MAN HGV chassis (two or three-axle) and is driven by the HGV engine. An additional engine is not required. The result is an unbeatably economic machine which in terms of off-road capability is almost as good as a tractor-trailer combination. Depending on the model, motor powers of 360, 480 or 540 hp are available. The machines have been constructed so that they are ready for action in the shortest-possible time. The vehicle is safely and quietly supported on four hydraulic supports during crane operation. The driver is not shaken around. The chipper truck is also fast and economic when travelling on the road. The vehicles are suitable for motorway use with a top speed of 80 km/h. 06

7 easygreen control system All chipper truck functions are operated via the easygreen terminal. A display controller which intuitively guides the operator through the machine control. Easygreen is used in all JENZ machines. The basic menu navigation is always the same. This reduces the training costs to a minimum. Practical additional functions make working even easier: for example, the driver can adjust the crane control (sensitivity, speed, joystick allocation) entirely to suit his tastes. The user profile can be saved and called up again at any time. The terminal automatically gives the driver information about faults. He can use this information to optimise the machine settings. Furthermore, jobs and business information can be recorded. Data can be transferred into the company-specific data processing system via a USB interface so that it can be used for customer invoicing or in-house evaluation. 8 HGV engine HGV engine HGV engine HGV transmission Reverse gear The principle of the chipper truck is based on the fact that the add-on chipper is driven by the HGV engine. Power transmission takes place in various ways depending on the model: HGV power divider Main drive HEM 583/820 R-Truck chipper truck in the case of the largest chipper truck models (HEM 583 and above), the power is transmitted to the chipper by the transmission auxiliary drive. The drivetrain is designed for an enormously high torque of up to 8000 Nm. The solution is convincing with its long service life and enables high performances when chipping. HGV engine NMV auxiliary drive HGV transmission Reverse gear HGV power divider In the case of the smaller HEM 540 and HEM 561 chipper trucks, the chipper is driven by the NMV. This solution is considerably less expensive, and certainly sufficient for the lower HGV motor power of 360 hp. A further advantage is that the NMV auxiliary drive can be switched on and off both at a standstill and while travelling under load. 9 Hydrostatic drive On request, JENZ can offer a hydrostatic drive with an electro-hydraulic propulsion drive for all chipper truck models. The driver can use this solution to move the HGV without having to move to the driver s seat. This is the perfect solution when working alongside a long material stack. The functions of the drive are controlled using the loading crane joystick. With this system, the chipper drive doesn t even have to be disengaged. The function can easily be activated using the JENZ easygreen control system. The chipper truck is ready for action again after a short break. The hydrostatic propulsion drive enables speeds of up to 3.5 km/h. Hydrostatic drive 09

12 Maintenance-friendliness Maintenance-friendliness A chipper truck is built so that the expenditure required for maintenance or repairs is reduced to a minimum. After all, you want to earn money with the machine. This is only possible if the chipper is ready to use again quickly. The screen basket cover can be hydraulically opened for all chippers. This means that the chipper rotor is freely accessible immediately. This allows the blades to be sharpened or replaced easily from a standing position. The screen basket can be replaced without tools. 12

13 Maintenance-friendliness The focus of development has been on the easy maintenance. The result makes us proud. The hydraulic blower can be fully opened within a short period of time similar to a safe door with double hinge. In this case, the fan is totally free and out of the housing. All wear parts are optimally accessible and can be easily checked and replaced if required. Maintenance-friendliness For maintenance purposes the driver s cab can be easily opened by hydraulic. Now the service man can reach the engine and its parts in a very comfortable way. 13

Infinitely variable regulation of ejection distance on chipper trucks with hydraulic blower Material outfeed as required With the chipper truck you have a choice of how the woodchippings should be discharged: A rear-fitted injection blower with delivery pipe is fitted as standard. From the HEM 583 model and above, the blower is hydraulically driven. This allows the speed to be infinitely regulated, and severely reduced for most jobs, independently of the chipper drum. The result is a lower power requirement and less wear on the blower. Furthermore, the woodchippings are handled carefully. If required, the hydraulic blower can also be fitted centrally between the crane and the chipper. This then makes it possible to load the woodchippings in both directions. The perfect solution for jobs with restricted space. People who have enough space and place considerable value on the woodchipping quality can also equip the chipper truck with a rear-fitted outfeed conveyor. This solution requires less drive power than the blower. There is then more power available for chipping, which is reflected in higher throughput rates. On top of this, less dust is created if chipping is carried out with a conveyor belt. 14

15 Cleanfix spiral fan An engine must be sufficiently cooled in the long-term and under all deployment conditions so that it can provide its maximum power. The standard cooler supplied with the MAN HGV reaches its limits in a dusty environment and at high outside temperatures. Fine wood dust blocks the cooler and the machine runs hot. With Cleanfix, JENZ has found an exclusive solution for this problem: a pneumatically-operated spiral fan. Depending on the cooling requirement, the ventilator blades are adjusted flatter or more steeply so that the airflow through the cooler is regulated. A fine-mesh net in front of the coolers keeps coarse particles away. At regular intervals, the ventilator blades rotate so that the airflow is completely reversed and the cooler is blown free. The entire cooler package is completely sealed off so that the airflow can be specifically controlled and so that suction of dust from the side is prevented. 16 Logistics Logistics The brand name chipper truck means simply what it says. In this case truck stands for transport, in other words for optimum transport logistic. The chipper truck provides all the best requirements for this with its compact construction, its comparably low weight, the high transport speed including motorway certification and the comfort of a large and comfortable driver s cab. Further economic trump cards are its excellent low consumption and extremely fair costs for both tyres and inspections. 16

Registration as a selfpropelled work machine is cheaper in terms of tax, but is associated with restrictions on the transport facilities.
