1 Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Monthly Report August 2013 The following report contains non-audited figures based on data extracted from the District s incident reporting system and Washoe County E-Comm Dispatch. Additional responses to/from the TMFPD may have occurred but did not meet the NFIRS definitions for automatic or mutual aid. Only incidents where representatives from two or more entities are on scene together qualify as aid given or received by an agency. When one entity handles an incident for another jurisdiction without assistance, the incident is not classified as auto/mutual aid according to NFIRS, and neither are responses where one entity cancels its response prior to arriving at the incident. TMFPD recognizes neighboring agencies may have provided aid more times than what is recognized under NFIRS reporting standards. 4 P a g e

A residential service line was broken at the meter. The main gas supply line was shut off by NV Energy in order to secure the surrounding area. Four Engines, one Rescue and one Chief Officer responded to this incident. Gas Leak, Eastlake Blvd - Commissioner District 2 On August 10, 2013 at 8:17 hours, resources from the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District responded to a broken gas main in District 16. Workers in the area cut a ¾ inch residential line while digging. Crews from the TMFPD evacuated the neighboring businesses, secured the area, and pulled protection lines until the arrival of Southwest gas. Once the gas line was shut down the area was cleared for explosive limits and all the occupants resumed their normal activities. Three Engines, two Tenders, and one Battalion Chief responded to this incident. Natural Gas Leak, Arrowcreek Parkway - Commissioner District 2 On August 14, 2013 at 13:56 hours, resources from the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District responded to a natural gas leak. A 2 service line was broken by construction equipment. NV Energy was able to shut down the main supply line to the area. Once the area was cleared, all units returned. Three Engines, one Rescue and one Chief Officer responded. Wildland Fire, Columbia Hills - Commissioner District 5 On August 20, 2013 at 20:08 hours, resources from the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and Silver Lake VFD responded to a lightning caused Wildland Fire. The fire was located north of Columbia Hills and the crews had to hike to the scene. RAVEN 3 was utilized 5 P a g e

6 for bucket work to suppress the fire which was contained to.10 acres. The fire was on private property. Two Brush Engines, two Water Tenders, one Battalion Chief and RAVEN 3 responded to this incident. Large Animal Rescue, HWY Commissioner District 2 On August 23, 2013 at 15:03 hours, resources from the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District responded to a large animal rescue in Washoe Valley. On arrival, R-30 reported a horse that was stuck on top of a 4ft high gate. Crews coordinated efforts with a local vet to sedate the animal and cut the hinges on the gate. The gate was lowered and removed from underneath the house. The animal was evaluated by the Vet and all units from the TMFPD were released. One engine, one Rescue, one Logistics Officer, and one Battalion Chief responded to this incident. Structure Fire, Fir Drive - Commissioner District 5 No 2 in 2 out required for this incident On August 23, 2013 at 15:29 hours, resources from the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District responded to a working structure fire in District 13. On arrival E-13 reported a fully involved two story wood frame structure. The two story structure was an apartment located on top of a garage. Crews went into defensive attack with three 2 ½ handlines and a deck gun. The fire was knocked down and overhauled. Once the investigation was completed, the scene was turned over to the renters. Three Engines, one Rescue, one Tender, one Training Officer, two Prevention Officers and one Battalion Chief responded to this incident. Mutual Aid Incidents: Wildland Fire Red Rock (Cinch Fire) - Commissioner District 5 On August 21, 2013 at 1428 hours, resources from the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District responded to a reported wildland fire in the Red Rock/Rancho Haven area. Thunderstorms at that time produced lightning and reports of multiple small fire ignitions. The largest fire was reported behind several homes off of Chuckwagon Rd in Rancho Haven and was started by lightning, but received very little rain. The fire was initially handled by TMFPD units, but was later determined to be BLM jurisdiction. TMFPD responded three Chief Officers, one Safety Officer, two Brush Trucks, three Water Tenders, one Patrol, and RAVEN. Additionally, units were requested from BLM, USFS, NDF, Reno FD, Tahoe Douglas FPD, and several other agencies to assist BLM. In addition to RAVEN, aircraft included one air attack plane, one Heavy Air Tanker, one Helicopter, and several SEATS. The fire was successfully kept away from all structures, and burned a total of 362 acres before being controlled. No injuries or damage were reported. Wildland Fire, Peavine Mountain - Commissioner District 3 On August 8, 2013 at 12:08 hours, resources from the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District responded to a Wildland Fire on Peavine Mountain west of Diamond Ridge Ct. Crews assisted USFS HTF with a two acre grass fire that was started by target shooters. Once the fire was contained and controlled it was turned over to USFS HTF. Three Brush Trucks, one Battalion Chief and one Fire Prevention Officer responded to this incident. 6 P a g e

7 Extrication Accident, City of Sparks - Commission District 4 On August 17, 2013 at 21:49 hours, E-17 was requested to assist the Sparks Fire Department with an extrication accident involving three patients. E-17 and the crews from Sparks extricated, treated, and loaded two patients for transport. One Engine form TMFPD, one Ladder Truck and 1 Battalion Chief from Sparks responded to this incident. Training Rope Rescue Training Hazmat Refresher Training Extrication Training Explosive device training with RFD Bomb squad South stations completed the NV Energy gas training State Hazmat Training at the Reno Livestock Events Center EMS continuing education Other Accomplishments Hydrant testing in District 15, 17, and 36 still in progress all other districts completed.
