Atls Copco s rnge covers ll, you cn rely on mximum mteril removl with minimum effort. DIE GRINDING Smll precision deburring die grind ing is performed with ei ther tungsten cr bide, high speed steel burrs or mount ed points. The choice of burr depends on the size of your job. A lrger volume of re moved mteril will require bigger size of the burr s hed. Select the tool r/min depending on the dimeter of the burr hed, the mteril to be ground nd the mteril in the ro t ry burr. Use tungsten crbide burrs for hrd nd tough m te ri ls. High speed steel burs re recommended for unhrdened nd me di um hrd mterils. ROUGH GRINDING Pure mteril removl is determined by the power generted t the grinding process. The pplied feed force nd the rottion of the wheel genertes cutting force which, multiplied by the peripherl speed of the wheel, represents the power of removed mteril. (Power=Peripherl speed x Cutting force). A powerful grinder will provide enough power with mintined rottionl speed, when pplying feed-force. A suitble combintion of opertive rottionl speed, feed-force pplied by the opertor nd power of the grinder, will give you the best combintion for the mteril removl required. As rough grinding is performed with bonded brsives, lim i t tion of ro t tion l speed is necessry in order to pre vent wheel frctures due to cen trif u gl force. The peripherl speed is lim it ed to 80 m/s for fibre reinforced depressed center, stright nd cutting off wheels. Resin bond ed cup nd stright wheels re lim it ed to peripherl speed of 50 m/s. SANDING AND POLISHING Unlike die nd rough grinding, snd ing nd polishing p plies to re quire ments of surfce. A fi ne surfce will re quire fi ne grit pper, fi ne Scotch-Brite, Ber Tex or soft polishing bonnet. Rough er sur fce grinding will require higher m te ri l re mov l rte nd thus cors er grit pper. Similr to rough grinding, rough sur fce, ground with corse grit will benefi t from high rottionl speed. The lim i ttions re, however, the mximum l lowed speed of the bcking pd nd the fi bre disc. Norml snding speeds for fi bre discs of dimeter 125 mm, 180 mm nd 230 mm re 4000 to 6000 r/min. Polishing with different pstes nd com pounds requires low speed in com bi n tion with high torque. Suitble speeds re 1800 to 2200 r/min. Snding with wet coted brsives is best performed t low speeds, prtly be cuse wter is thrown out into the pe riph ery nd prtly becuse of the fi ne grit. Scotch-Brite, Ber Tex nd flp wheels perform best t 50% of their mximum llowed rottionl speeds. THE SPEED GOVERNOR The mount of mteril removed in the grind ing process depends on the power of the tool nd the opertive ro t tion l speed. The digrm be low shows the correltion between torque, power nd rottionl speed of non governed pneumtic grind er. In order to remove m te ri l, the op er tor hs to pply feedforce on the work-piece. Con se quent ly the rottionl speed de cres es nd hv ing pssed p prox i mte ly 50% of the free speed, the op er tive pow er outtke strts to de crese. The o- reticlly, the most mteril would be removed t pproximtely 50% of the free speed on non gov erned grind er, (digrm 1). Atls Copco grinders re compct nd smooth running, prtly due to their speed gov ernor. The ir is gov erned to the ir fl ow nec es sry to min tin the ro t tion l speed re grdless of lod (to the extent of the pow er of the grind er). The correltion between power, torque nd rottionl speed of governed grind er is shown in digrm 2. Check the free speed l The mesured speed t pressure of 6.3 brs must not exceed the rted speed, which is mrked on the grinder. l Remove the grinding wheel nd outer flnge before checking the free speed. l Crry out checks dily. l Mke sure the speed mrking on the tool is legible. l Return the mchine for repir in the event of overspeeding. Mem Mode 2. Check the wheel gurd The wheel gurd protects your helth nd sfety. l Alwys use the recommended wheel gurd. l Check tht it is not dmged. l Never use grinder without the wheel gurd. l Position the wheel gurd between yourself nd the grinding wheel. Check tht the trigger is working correctly. l The trigger must never be removed or fixed by tpe for exmple. l If the trigger is not working properly, mke sure tht it is replced. 3. Mximum speed Mke sure tht the stted mximum speed of the grinding wheel is greter thn or equl to the speed specified on the grinder. 4. Check the grinding wheel Mke sure tht the grinding wheel is not crcked or dmged in ny wy. l The grinding wheel should hve the correct hole dimensions nd be fitted correctly on the spindle to void unblnced vibrtions. l Dmged grinding wheels must be removed nd replced immeditely. l Do not use dropped or dmged wheels, s these cn cuse serious injuries. Mx speed Nm 5.Check the flnge nd wheel Mke sure tht flnge nd wheel combintions correspond to ntionl regultions. l Check tht the flnges re undmged nd clen. l Attch the wheel with the recommended torque. l Alwys disconnect the ir-supply when chnging the wheel or djusting the tool. l Test-run your grinder in protected re fter ssembling the wheel. l Check tht the grinder is working correctly. 6. Personl protection equipment Mke sure tht opertors wer: l Eye protection, goggles or visor. l Er protection. l Gloves. l Steel toe-cpped shoes. l Protective clothing, such s lether pron. l A helmet (for hevier pplictions). l Avoid loosely hnging clothing, hir, jewellery (risk of getting cught). 7. Working re Ensure tht the re in which you re working is kept free from other people so tht no one cn get injured. l People nerby must lso wer hering nd eye protection. l Check tht there is good ventiltion nd dust extrction from the premises. l There should be stnd or plce vilble, on which the mchine cn be sfely plced. l Work within seled-off re, if possible with protecting wlls, since there is risk tht broken discs could fly off. During work Stop using the grinder if bnormlly loud noises nd vibrtions occur during use. The grinder nd its ccessories must not be modified in ny wy. After the work is finished Mke sure the mchine is switched off nd hs come to complete stop before it is put down. Put down the tool crefully, so tht there is no risk of the tool strting by itself. Mintennce Mke sure you follow the service instructions provided nd the recommended service intervls. Do not dismntle sfety-relted prts such s the speed governor nd overspeed shut off. They require rough brsives, which must be ttched to the tool with rigid shnk or to be mounted directly to the spindle. The power rnges from 0.7 kw to 2 kw. All Atls Copco tools re designed with focus on opertor ergonomics nd mximum power, the best combintion for mximum productivity. The LSR28 nd 38 re suitble for lighter pplictions where ccessibility is fi rst priority. LSR43 hs proven nd rigid design, nd is suitble for those relly tough pplictions where durbility is needed.
