3 Empty Car Request (ECR) Widget The ECR widget is used to request empty railcars for loading at your facility. The ECR widget replaces the empty car request application known as ecars. The ECR Widget - Requesting Empty Rail Cars Within the ECR Widget, you can view the facilities for which you can request empty cars. 1. There are two ways to view facilities: Click right corner of the widget. Click of the Widget. in the top in the middle 2. Select the radio button for a facility. 3. Select a pattern from the dropdown. Note: Please bear in mind that you can only select one car request pattern at the time. 4. Click 5. Click to save the car request pattern as a favorite. Note: If you choose to add favorites, please ensure you are doing so before clicking. 6. Click to start over with a car request pattern selection. 1

4 The ECR Widget View All Car Requests for a Date Range In addition to requesting empty cars for future weeks, you can use the ECR Widget to view all car requests within a date range. 1. Select a date range. 2. Click. 3. To If you set up certain car request patterns as favorites, you will be able to select them from the Select Favorite dropdowns within the Widget and use this selection to either request empty cars OR view empty car request history. 4. Select Customer(s) 5. Select a Pattern(s). 6. Click OR. 2

5 Car Request Calendar Overview of the Car Request Calendar There are two ways to access the Car Request Calendar: 1. Navigate to Empty Car Requests (Manage > Empty Car Requests) from top nav menu. 2. Click View Customer Patterns in the top right of the ECR widget. Select a customer/facility and pattern to proceed to the calendar. Key details are at the top of the calendar: Facility for which you are requesting cars Car request pattern name Contact information for the NS Fleet Specialist responsible for filling your requests A week starts on a Monday and ends on a Sunday. The calendar defaults to display the current week and four weeks in the future. The scissors icon represents the cut-off for empty car requests for the next week, and defaults to Tuesday. If NS changes the cut-off to another day, the scissors icon will reflect that change. Legend Cutoff Day Add Comment View/Edit Comment Requested Cars No Entry Allowed Non-Service Day 3

6 The Car Request Calendar - Requesting Empty Rail Cars 1. Click any day on the calendar that doesn t already have cars requested. 2. Enter the amount of cars you wish to request. 3. To request cars for additional dates, click the date or move forward using the tab key to navigate through selectable service dates. 4. If you have comments or details specific to a date, click the Add Comment icon in the top right corner of a date. A yellow note icon indicates a comment. Note: Comments will be visible to NS Fleet Specialists (13). 5. Click or to clear entries without saving. Note: will result in all amounts entered and NOT YET SAVED being wiped out from the screen! 6. If it appears that you aren t requesting cars for all weeks, a notification appears to alert you. 7. Click to proceed with the submission or click to return to the calendar. 8. When you click, the system will ask your preference to have the total requested cars delivered together on the date indicated or delivered over the course of the week. 9. When your request is submitted, you will get a message that confirms your successful submission and displays your weekly car request reference number. Note: each week will have its own car request reference number. 4

7 The Car Request Calendar Modifying a Car Request 1. Click on the date you wish to modify and enter the new requested amount 2. Click or. The Car Request Calendar Modifying a Request Expiration Date Requests for any given week expire on the Sunday of that week unless you choose to specify that you need the cars by a specific (earlier) day BEFORE Sunday. You can do so by modifying the expiration day. NOTE: If a portion of the demand for empty rail cars is not met by the expiration date, it does NOT automatically roll over to the next request week. You will need to contact your Fleet Specialist if (1) you wish to update your upcoming car request(s) to account for part of the demand not having been delivered by the expiration date, and (2) the cut-off for the week that you wish to update has already passed. 1. 8 2. Select the expiration date and click or click to leave the expiration date unchanged. The current date is highlighted in red and the selected date is highlighted in blue. The Car Request Calendar Add a Comment to a Week A comment can be added to a date or a week. To add a comment to a week: 1. Click the Add Comment icon in the top right corner of a week summary to add or edit a comment specific to the request week. A yellow note icon indicates a comment. 6

9 The Car Request Calendar Favorites and Patterns If you made any of your car request patterns a favorite, clicking Select Favorites will allow you to display your favorites and select one of them to start the car request entry process. Click to display all of the car request patterns that you are set up to use. You can use either option to start requesting cars for additional car request patterns. The total number of cars you have requested for the weeks displayed on the calendar are summarized in the Total number of requested cars box. 7
