A few mishaps along the way, and some were pretty tough, but we are all still here, and ready to ride. One of the things that National HOG sets forth for the officers of any HOG Chapter is that the Annual HOG Charter be available to any and all members. I am as guilty as any other member, and haven t looked at it for a long time. As the year progresses, I am going to include the charter in small pieces in the newsletter. I am also making a copy of it available in a notebook for anyone to look at during our monthly meeting. It will be at the table with the club secretary. You can take it to your table and read it, then return it to the secretary by the end of the meeting. I will also make it available to anyone through . Just send me or the secretary a request by and we will attach the HOG Charter HOG CHARTER PREAMBLE The Harley Owners Group (H.O.G. ) is an organization founded and sponsored by Harley-Davidson Motor Company. The Group was established to offer motorcycling benefits and services to Harley-Davidson enthusiasts throughout the world, and to develop a close relationship between the Harley-Davidson rider, the Harley-Davidson Dealership, and Harley-Davidson Motor Company. The opportunity for a authorized Harley- Davidson Dealership to start an independent Chapter affiliated with the Harley Owners Group is offered to bring members together for the common interest of promoting motorcycling activities. As a benefit of membership, a H.O.G. member may join any chartered H.O.G. Chapter. The intent of the Chapter is to Ride and Have Fun with like minded individuals who have a passion for riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the Harley-Davidson brand. The Chapter shall be a family-oriented, non-political and non-religious organization. ARTICLE I PURPOSE 1. The purpose of the local Chapter shall be to promote responsible Harley- Davidson motorcycling activities for Harley Owners Group members by conducting Chapter activities and encouraging participation in other H.O.G. events. 2. Chapter activities and operations shall be conducted in a manner consistent with a family-oriented, non-political, non-religious philosophy. 3. Each year we ride to various locations around the state that are based on a common theme. At the location, we photograph ourselves with our bike, the designated locale signage and a printout of the theme design for that year. When 15 or more photographs are accumulated, we turn them in to the Ride Warrior coordinator (Jeff Kohler) and receive a patch for that theme/ year. There are stops provided in the January newsletter, with 2-3 more stops given out each subsequent month throughout the year. If you would like to participate in the R/W 2018 Patch Design Contest, contact Jeff Kohler for the rules. Deadline for submission is January 8th, at the Chapter General Meeting! 6 Ladies Of Harley Officer, Elaine Plourde We are at the start of an awesome New Year my friends, and we will have a fun time. Ladies if you have any ideas please feel free to share with me and the ladies. What you may think is lots of fun, others may like also. We all tried the stain glass classes at the Elfer s Senior Building on Friday mornings at 8:00 am till 11:30am and some ladies are still going including me LOL. I also want to thank all the Ladies and Gents from our Harley Group 1027# that helped out with the Ad Litem project for the Christmas in July, and the Santa day in December. We were able to give Fran Scerbo $ , the total for the year. Fran works with us every year, advising us what the kids need. The Harley Basket was won by Aida Collins, and the Elf basket was won by Phoenix Stevens. We also did the Homeless Shelter Project (Holy Ground on Denton Ave. in Hudson), that Gents and Ladies of the Harley made 27 stockings and gave 2 baskets full of fruits and crackers and cheese along with many other items in the baskets. All donations that were given for the projects from the Christmas wrapping at the dealership and other donations from the Ladies of the Harley went into these two charities. We put a lot of smiles on many faces with all your help. I wanted to Thank You All From The Bottom Of My Heart for all your help. Elaine Ladies of Harley Officer Jeff Ballard, Assistant Director THE POWER OF THE BELL How to keep bad luck and road gremlins away from your Harley. According to legend, the open road isn t really as open as you d like it to be. Rather, it is inhabited by countless road gremlins, dispatched by evil spirits to wreak havoc on you and your motorcycle. Some say these gremlins are the source of all the mishaps and mayhem that sometimes make your ride less than perfect. Fortunately, there s a defense against these invisible little evil-doers. It s called a ride bell, a powerful weapon in the battle against bad luck. If you don t already have one yourself, chances are you ve seen one on somebody else s bike. Or maybe you haven t, as they re attached to the bike somewhere inconspicuous. No one is exactly quite sure how they work different theories abound. One is that the gremlins are attracted to the pleasant sound, but then become trapped inside the bell, where the constant ringing drives them crazy. Eventually, they drop to the ground and, according to some, that s where potholes come from. However they work, everyone seems to agree on one important thing about ride bells: Sure, you can buy one for yourself, but their power is doubled when you receive one as a gift. Will having a ride bell prevent you from ever experiencing bad luck on the road? We can t guarantee that. We can, however, say for certain that your troubles will not be caused by invisible evil spirits. Whether you believe the legend or not, a ride bell makes a great gift. Page 6

7 Happy New Year! Another year starts and your Road Captains are ready to lead you on a variety of rides this year. There will be some old traditional rides and new ones. We will also honor request for rides you want. The ride are advertised on the Ride Calendar on the web and in the Newsletter. The rides are also advertised through weekly and in some cases even with individual reminder s. If all that fails they are listed on the bulletin board located in the Customer Lounge at Harley Davidson of New Port Richey. There should be no reason not to know when and where the rides are. 9 Ken Schmidt, Safety Officer Hello fellow HOGS. For those of you who do not know me yet, my name is Ken. I am your new chapter safety officer. Although I am fairly new to the chapter, I have been riding for over 40 years, and I am retired from the Army after 25 years. I am also retired from Law Enforcement where I was also a motor patrol Officer. I still ride an Electra Glide police bike. I am really looking forward to the upcoming year with the chapter. A quick note on safety. As we all know by now, it is that time of the year when our northern friends have returned. This has more than doubled the amount of traffic on our roads and increased the chances of accidents. Let s all be diligent and aware of what and who is around us as we ride.
