2 2013 Attorney Population Density by Metropolitan Statistical Area This report shows the active in-state attorney population growth from 2003 to 2013 by county for all 25 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) and non-metropolitan counties as of December 31 of each corresponding year. Also provided is the 2013 geographical concentration of active attorneys licensed by the State Bar of. For comparison, information on attorneys is compared to the general population. Summary Findings 2003 to 2013 Population Growth: The active in-state attorney population grew by 28 percent between 2003 and 2013, growing from 66,358 in 2003 to 84,800 in This compares to a 20 percent growth in the general population (22,118,509 in 2003 to 26,448,193 in 2013). Attorney population growth in metropolitan areas grew by 28 percent, growing from 63,461 in 2003 to 81,426 in During the same time the non-metropolitan attorney population grew by 17 percent (2,894 in 2003 to 3,374 in 2013). The Austin-Round Rock MSA experienced the largest percent increase in both active attorneys and general population, growing by 44 percent (7,783 in 2003 to 11,173 in 2013) and 75 percent (1,074,0467 to 1,883,051 in 2013) respectively. Detailed information on population growth can be found on page Population Density: As of 2013, there was 1 attorney to every 312 citizens. In 2013, 90 percent of attorneys were located in the ten largest metropolitan areas. The four largest metropolitan areas contained 83 percent of all active in-state attorneys. The four largest metropolitan areas are Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land MSA (32%), Dallas-Fort Worth- Arlington MSA (30%), Austin-Round Rock MSA (13%), and San Antonio-New Braunfels MSA (8%).
