The Society hs not restricted its re of opertion to the West Bengl Stte only, but it works throughout Indi. Ntionl Agriculturl Coopertive Mrketing federtion of Indi Ltd (NAFED), New Delhi hs pprecited the work of the society by giving it the prestigious Dr Punjbro Deshmukh Awrd with csh prize of Rs 10,000/- long with silver momento for best performnce in Estern Region, during Oil mjor, Indin Oil Corportion hs pprecited the excellent work of the society in selling Diesel, Petrol nd Lubricnts s well s for mintining high stndrd in qulity nd quntity. The society hs mde rpid progress during the lst ten yers; its turnover ws lkh during which incresed to 1140 lkh during wheres society's stff strength is only 10 employees. The Kushmndi society hs cre of lnd, 7 pucc Godowns hving 5100 MT cpcity, two-storied office building-cum-godown, two consumer coopertive shops, two Petrol & Diesel Pumps nd One Multipurpose Cold Storge. The society's min ctivities re procurement nd sle of griculturl commodities produced in its re which re Pddy, Whet, Urd, Arhr, Mustrd Seed, Rw Jute, Grlic etc. The society hs won the confidence of mjority of the locl frmers. They bring their produce directly to society s godown, its qulity is checked nd it is weighed nd vlue is immeditely pid by the society s per mrket price. Besides, trucks, buses nd crs hd to go long distnce for getting fuel. The society purchsed 0.70 cre lnd on Rigunj-Blurght Stte Highwy. After overcoming mny bottlenecks during the society hs set up Diesel-cum-Petrol pump which ws lter on modernized by M/s. Indin Oil Corportion. Subsequently, during the society hs set up nother Diesel-cum-Petrol pump on Stte Highwy-10(Bunidpur) t Nrinpur which ws modernized by M/s. Hindustn Petroleum Corportion; both the pumps re running successfully nd profitbly. West Bengl is the 2nd lrgest producer of pottoes in the country; lot of pottoes re grown in Kushmndi re. Since there is cute scrcity of Cold Storges in West Bengl nd tking into considertion the hrdship of potto growers for wnt of cold storge, the society felt the need of cold storge in its re. This ws Herculen tsk for the society. After overcoming mny hurdles, with the finncil ssistnce/lon from Stte Govt /NCDC, during the society hs set up Multipurpose Cold Storge of 5,500 MT cpcity nd strted storing pottoes in the cold storge. Resultntly, lrge number of potto growers hve been benefitted. The role of Ntionl Co-opertive Development Corportion(NCDC), hs been tht of friend, philosopher nd guide of Indin Co-opertives, NCDC hs plyed n importnt role in overll development of Kushmndi society. Bsed on gurntee of West Bengl Govt., during the period from to , the society hs obtined NCDC s ssistnce/soft lons to the extent of 138 lkh nd the lons re being refunded by the society regulrly in phsed mnner. In the pst NAFED ws not populrly known to the villgers of West Bengl but thnks to Kushmndi Society who joined with NAFED by strting joint venture on 50:50 bsis, the business of mrketing of Rw jute, Whet nd Urd. The Society extends support to NAFED for purchsing griculturl commodities s per NAFED s requirements on outright bsis by tking nominl service chrges. The Kushmndi Society is very considerte of locl villgers. It encourges the locl students by providing finncil ssistnce regulrly to the meritorious poor students. The Society celebrtes Coop. week every yer which motivtes the people to be coopertive minded. Kushmndi Society is role model for ll of the mrketing coopertives who re owned by the frmers, run by the frmers nd who work for the betterment of the frmers s well s the consumers. The other Societies in West Bengl would prosper if they follow the pth set by the Kushmndi Society.

The conference ws inugurted by Shri H.K. Ptil, President, Ntionl Federtion of Urbn Coopertive Bnks nd Credit Societies, New Delhi nd presided over by Shri G.V. Krishn Ru, Principl Secretry (Coopertion), Govt. of Krntk. Shri C.B. Pliwl, Mnging Director, NCDC, welcomed the delegtes nd delivered the key note ddress. Shri C.B. Pliwl, Mnging Director, NCDC, in his key-note ddress, stted tht NCDC hs completed 50 yers of its glorious service for coopertives cross the country nd is celebrting its Golden Jubilee Yer(GJY), s lso Interntionl Yer of Co-opertives(IYC). MD, NCDC expressed hppiness over the performnce of NCDC during the lst 50 yers, beginning with disbursement of Rs crore in its yer of inception , nd highest ever reimbursement of Rs crore during , with cumultive chievement of Rs. 35, crore s on He stted tht NCDC hs identified the potentil nd innovtive res for promoting coopertives in Southern Region. He mde mny suggestions for the Coopertives. Shri H.K. Ptil, President, Ntionl Federtion of Urbn Coopertive Bnk s Federtion, New Delhi, in his inugurl ddress, pprecited the exemplry role plyed by NCDC for completing 50 glorious yers of yeomen service to the co-opertives in the country nd wished NCDC mny fruitful yers hed, to multiply its efforts both quntittively nd qulittively. Appreciting the 97th Constitutionl Amendment s gift to the Coopertive movement, Shri Ptil impressed upon the Govt. of Indi nd NCDC to initite meningful ction to ddress issues, for coopertive cuse. Highlights of the ddress re s under: 1. Emphsizing the need to promote interest in coopertives s topic of reserch, rising the generl wreness on coopertives beyond cdemic circles, he suggested tht NCDC with its rech nd the wherewithl should come forwrd for promoting Reserch & Development in coopertives. 2. Estblishment of Coopertive Infrstructure Development Fund (CIDF). 3. Setting up of seprte rehbilittion fund tht would help coopertives which re in need of rehbilittion or revitliztion.the inugurl session of the conference ws concluded with vote of thnks tendered by Dr. K.T. Chnneshpp, Regionl Director, NCDC. Subsequent to the inugurl function, two Technicl Sessions were held, wherein the eminent personlities deliberted & mde presenttions on the topics requiring ttention. Shnkr Ro Deputy Director, NCDC, Bngluru Grdutes Coopertive Society Shivmogg engged in bnking opertions till dte now hs dded glittering fether to its crown by tking the right step in setting up new coopertive hospitsl venture in soceity s own premises t Kuvempu Rod in Shivmogg City Krntk. While this is the first such hospitl in Shivmogg District it is the third such coopertive hospitl in the coopertive sector in the Stte. The coopertive hospitsl hs been estblished with the objective of providing helth services to its members t concessionl rtes. During Grdute coopertive soceity s silver jubilee celebrtion held wy bck in itself, the society hd nnounced the estblishment of this coopertive hospitl project which hs become relity now. The coopertive hospitl hs seprte consulttive generl medicine, peditrics, ortho pedics, generl surgery, gynochology service deprtments prt from well equipped lbortory, OPD nd concessionl/discounting phrmcy wing s well. The society members re eligible for 30% discount on ll medicl tests/investigtions. Even generl public re provided with concessionl medicl services t 20% discount so s to fulfil the motto of qulity medicl tretment t concessionl rtes to people. Similrly, the dmission fee will be Rs. 60/- nd Rs. 80/- for members nd public respectively. The OPD will be functioning dily from Noon to 2.30 PM in the morning nd 6.00 PM to 8.30 PM in the evening. Dinesh Director hve indicted during the recent inugurtion tht the coopertive hospitl hs been initilly estblished t cost of Rs. 25 lkhs nd medicl equipments worth Rs lkhs re under instlltion in the coopertive hospitl. The entire expenditure of Rs crores hs been borne out of the profits of the Grdute Coopertive Society. The Coopertive Hospitl hs plnned to orgnise free medicl checkup cmps once in every two months. The members re to be issued with GCS Helth Crds shortly by the Grdute Coopertive Society. This crd will entil concessionl chrges for ll members towrds medicl tests, investigtions, tretment nd other services. The GCS Shivmogg hs mny future plns to provide specilized services including strting of well equiped dilysis centre in its hospitl s first floor nd modern stte of the rt emergency Ambulnce Vn with n ttched ventiltor for ferrying seriously ill ptients to super specility hospitls t Bnglore Mnipl nd other plces t concessionl rtes to its own members nd their fmilies s lso to the public in generl. The project hs been commissioned nd is under opertion. The sugr mill is regulr in mking repyment in dvnce to NCDC. The sugr mill ws lso snctioned finncil ssistnce of Rs lkh by NCDC on under direct funding for modernistion nd expnsion of its crushing cpcity from 2500 TCD to 5000 TCD t totl block cost of Rs lkh. However, the sugr mill could not vil the snctioned ssistnce from NCDC nd the sme hs been de-snctioned by NCDC. At present, crushing cpcity of sugr mill is 5500 TCD. Further the President of Indi lso conferred NCDC Awrd for Coopertive Excellence 2012 on 27 best performing coopertives from different Sttes of the country for their excellent performnce. He informed tht NCDC wrd for Coopertive Excellence is n inititive to encourge nd give due recognition to those coopertives who despite ll odds re ble to sustin nd work for the development nd prosperity of Agrnin Society. Beginning with the yer 2012, NCDC hs instituted 3 Ntionl Awrds which re in ddition to the Stte Awrds. He informed tht s on NCDC hs cumultively relesed Rs Crores for the Stte of Mdhy Prdesh. During current finncil yer, so fr, n ssistnce of Rs. 50 crores hs been relesed for MP nd nother Rs. 50 crores will be relesed by under vrious progrmmes. Highlighting the new inititives tken by NCDC, Shri Pliwl stted tht lrge volume of finncil ssistnce is now being provided on Direct Funding bsis. He dded tht NCDC provides liberl finncil ssistnce to strengthen nd develop coopertives to the extent of 90%-95% of the project cost including subsidy component in the coopertively under developed nd lest developed sttes. Concluding his key note ddress, Shri Pliwl MD, NCDC promised tht NCDC would continue to provide ll round support to the Coopertives in their mission to tke the movement to greter heights for the socil nd economic development. Shri Gourishnkr Bisen,Hon ble Minister for Coopertion, Govt. of Mdhy Prdesh in his inugurl ddress felicitted NCDC for completing 50 glorious yers of outstnding service for the Coopertives in the Country. He stted tht Mdhy Prdesh hs secured top position in the country in griculture production. The Stte s griculture growth rte is bove 18%.He dded tht the Stte Govt. hs decided to ssist construction of lrge sized godowns through funds received from Govt. of Indi under RKVY. He impressed upon the need for strengthening of coopertives through ctivities like Animl Husbndry, Fisheries, Solr nd wind energy, Eduction, Helth, Trnsport etc. He requested NCDC to tke inititive in this direction nd clled upon the officers of the concerned deprtments in the Stte to chlk out comprehensive ction pln for the sme. While concluding his inugurl ddress the Hon ble Minister urged NCDC to reduce/lower its rte of interest. Shri Mneesh Shrivstv, Commissioner Coopertion nd Registrr of Coopertive Society, Mdhy Prdesh in his ddress informed tht there re registered coopertive societies mong vrious sectors in Mdhy Prdesh. The Stte hs 3 tier coopertive credit structure which cters to the credit needs of members in griculture sector. Acknowledging with grtitude the finncil support extended by NCDC for Integrted Coopertive Development Projects in 38 districts of the Stte nd for construction of 60 godowns of 500 ton cpcity ech, the Registrr Coopertive Societies Mdhy Prdesh expressed the hope tht NCDC would continue to support coopertive ventures in future lso. Wht ws tht Tnpur, from where strings of melody echoed And took shelter in the lp of the Emperor with ocenic storm surge! The meeting ws chired by Mr. C.B. Pliwl, IAS, Mnging Director, NCDC & Chirmn NEDAC nd ws ttended by delegtes from Phillipines, Bngldesh, Nepl, Thilnd nd Indi. Mr. C.B. Pliwl, Mnging Director NCDC nd Chirmn, NEDAC on behlf of NEDAC members in Indi, NEDAC Secretrit nd on his own welcomed the NEDAC EXCOM members to NCDC. He extended herty welcome to Dr. Chn Ho Choi nd thnked him for coming to ttend the EXCOM meeting of NEDAC. He lso expressed specil thnks to Mr. Pnuwt Nnkornpnom for joining the study visit to Indi. Mr W.I. Khn, Progrmme Adviser, NEDAC presented the ctivity report for 2011 nd 2012 in the EXCOM meeting. It ws pointed out tht the workshop on incresed income through production of herbl medicine, bee nd cold wter fish by coopertives could not be held in 2012 s the host orgniztion hd fund constrint due to non receipt of government budget on this item. Mr. Bijy Rj Ghimire, Vice Chirmn of Nepl Coopertive Federtion nd 2nd Vice Chirmn of NEDAC ssured the EXCOM tht he would look into the mtter of holding the workshop on incresed income through production of herbl medicine, bee nd cold wter fish by coopertives. Mr. W.I. Khn, Progrmme Adviser, NEDAC informed tht this yer the mjor expenses hve been for shifting of NEDAC office to new site on Lrn Lung Rod. One member of the EXCOM pointed out tht unless NEDAC hs more members or more funds through incresed membership fee, NEDAC expenditure would remin bove brekeven point. Chirmn stted tht NEDAC would therefore go for more members through membership drive. Mr. W.I. A letter from the Chirmn NEDAC highlighting the bove points should be sent to NEDAC members to fcilitte them in pproching the orgniztions involved in griculturl coopertive ctivities in crops, fishery, livestock, gro processing, mrketing, co-op eduction/trining etc to become member of NEDAC. The most importnt ctivity, mong others done by this office ws enrollment/ enlisting of 5 (five) orgniztions in Indi s new members of NEDAC. This office hs been working with NCUI nd MOA for orgnizing trining of coopertive personnel in Indi either free of chrges or t miniml cost. The other importnt work done by this office is feeding the NEDAC Website nd cting s focl point for NEDAC ctivities in Indi. Mr. Pliwl informed the meeting tht the services provided by the Chief Director is free nd NEDAC does not hve to py nything for the services rendered by the Chief Director of the sub office t NCDC. Mr W.I. Khn, Progrmme Adviser, NEDAC stted tht if NCDC cn estblish trining course/ progrmme in Indi for trining of coopertive personnel from the neighbouring countries, NCDC will be remembered grtefully by ll coopertive orgniztions for implementing trining courses which will result in HRD nd professionlism in griculturl coopertives. The EXCOM decided tht the nnul membership fee from Jnury 2013 will be rised to USD2500 s ginst present membership fee of USD2000. It ws decided tht NEDAC should continue to py the cost of interntionl ir tickets for the prticipnts to join NEDAC Generl Assembly nd NEDAC Executive Committee (EXCOM) meeting. The prticipting orgniztions/members themselves should py for ir tickets to join study tour/seminr/ workshop rrnged by NEDAC. The trvel cost (cost of ir ticket) for joining ny trining progrmme or course in ny NEDAC member orgniztions should be pid by the prticipnts or the prticipting orgniztions themselves. The host orgniztion for ny ctivity should continue to provide bord/lodging nd internl trnsport to prticipnts of ny ctivity such s NEDAC G.A., EXCOM, Study Tour, Workshop/ Seminr, Meeting etc. In order to sort out the impsse over the study tour in 2013 whether in Sri Lnk or in Bngldesh, Mr. Pliwl, MD, NCDC nd Chirmn, NEDAC sked Mr. Khn to tke up the mtter with the NEDAC member in Sri Lnk for finl decision.
