Variable Frequency Drive WHY IS THE VFD PROJECT GOOD FOR SIPC?

Win- Win Situation Builds on SIPC s Continued Economic and Environmental Stewardship With So. IL Enables Reduction in Same Energy Output > CO2 Reduction > SO2 Reduction > NOx Reduction > Mercury Reduction > Particulate (soot) Reduction

Excellent Example- The Triad Lowers Cost of Energy to Southern IL Reduces Emissions Provides Construction Jobs & Helps Stabilize Existing Jobs

Working Together Many People are Just Talking On How to Get Things Done. In Southern Illinois We Are Showing How to get it Done. SIPC and Government Working to Make it Happen

How Does it Work? UNIT 4 VARIABLE FREQUENCY DRIVE TECHNICAL BRIEF

Project Outline Install Variable Frequency Drives to Unit 4 Forced Draft and Booster Fan Motors Expected Savings of $800,000 to $1,355,000 Annually Reductions in CO 2 Emissions of 34,000 Tons Annually. Project Cost $3.624 Million

Basics of VFD Operation Modifies the Power Supply to Control the Speed of the Electric Motor New Signal Allows for More or Less Power to be Applied to Associated Motor Results in Reduced Operational Costs and Greater Control New Booster Fan Rotor Ready for October Outage

VFD Benefits Reduced Auxiliary Power Demand by Average of 3 MW During Operation Increased Process Control Allows Multiple Startup Attempts Within an Hour, Existing Limit is 2 Due to Heat Accumulation from Intake Current Allows Quicker Return to Service Reduced System Fatigue

General System Layout VFD Added Here VFD Added Here

Megawatts Forced Draft Motor Megawatt Load vs. 6 Hours of Operation Forced Draft Without VFD 2 Forced Draft With VFD 1 0 Hour of Operation
