HS/HC Project: Players involved RFI (Infrastructure Manager of FS), Client Italferr (Engineering Company of the FS Group): Responsible for Design and Work Supervision, System Integrator Main Contractor (MC): Manufacture
Design and implementation phases of HS/HC Project Italferr s role in the process: During the design phases: Preliminary Design, Detailed Design and Final Design Procurement procedures and awarding of the construction to the Main Contractors. During the construction: Works supervision: verification of the correct application of the contract by the MC as for supplies, works execution, tests and investigations, management, program of activities; authorization to payments release for correctly executed works; Assistance to testing and service trial.
HS/HC Project: design and implementation phases PRELIMINARY DESIGN (investment definition) OPERATION OF THE LINE TESTING AND CHECKING DETAILED DESIGN (Costing of the investment) CONSTRUCTION WORK SUPERVISION EXECUTIVE DESIGN
Main features of the HS/HC System Interoperability of the system (in accordance with the European TSI: Technical Specifications for Interoperability) Lines for passenger and freight trains Reduced maximum gradient (15% with the exception of a few sections) HS/HC lines interconnected with the existing conventional railway network (high flexibility operation) Maximum speed in pre-operation Operating speed = 217,5 mph = 187,5 mph
Territory and the environment 87,6 miles of new tunnels 305 miles of new viaducts, bridges cutting and embankments 48 miles of new interconnection lines 7 new stations 6 regions, 16 provinces, 150 municipalities crossed 142 miles of noise barriers 485 miles of new roads and road re-routing Approx. 25% of the investment spent on socio-environmental aspects
The HS/HC Project The main aspects of the project: Environmental mitigation -Mitigation of noise and vibration, environmental readjustment works, etc. Infrastructure - Civil Works; - Electric Traction System; - Signaling System; - Stations, Movement points, Communication points. Safety - Application of international standards.
Socio-environmental mitigation measures Environmental and urban rehabilitation Environmental readjustment works Control of noise and vibrations Control of power supply and of generated electromagnetic field Reduction of impact on human environment during construction period Maximum reuse of excavated materials and reduction of solid waste Prevention and mitigation measures to reduce the hydro-geologic impact Protection of the historical and archaeological remains
Socio-environmental mitigation measures Examples of protection of historic and archaeological remains Removal of an ancient tomb in the roman necropolis Kiln of roman times
