8 From Philip Bedford Dromod News Hi Jacqui As you know on the 1st July we had our annual visit from Andrew Waldron, Andrew Wilson & Danny Sheehan, these 3 gentlemen are very much the experts on Irish narrow-gauge railways, it has become a tradition here at Dromod that every year we surprise them with some project that we have built in secret over the long winter months, this year it was the replica pump trolley, last year was the replica rail inspection bicycle. I have spotted a very nice 1950s saddle on ebay to replace the 1970s one currently fitted. A great project, great fun, really interesting to work on and all thanks to Andrew Wilson to whom we are very grateful. The pictures tell it better than words, so here are before and after photos all taken in the last 3 weeks. Best wishes Philip On this years visit Andrew Wilson kindly brought to Dromod the mortal remains of 3 Bergbolagen rail tricycles that had been supplied to Bord na Mona (Irish Turf Board) from Sweden in 1957, these components had been rescued from Ireland in the 1970s for preservation, but as many parts were missing the project had not progressed so around 40 years later the components have returned to Ireland as our next project here at Dromod. Progress has been rapid, over the last 2 weekends myself and Michael Kennedy have sorted out the bits, located correct bolts, and the first tricycle is now assembled, more work still to do but we are thrilled to get this far so quick, the diagonal supports between the uprights and the outrigger need to be repaired and fitted, a suitable chain needs to be bought and the back axle needs more work, the threads are very worn and damaged, all straight forward enough. We hope to assemble a second tricycle from the other parts, but most of the frame will have to be scratch built, again not a problem. I believe this has been tried in Norway a couple of years ago on a petrol machine, photo below given to me by Phil Naylor.
