A semi-recumbent riding position is a great option for anyone who s uncomfortable on an upright cycle. The hammock-like seat is supremely supportive and lets you concentrate on riding. Being upright lets you look ahead without straining and the stability of three wheels means that you don t need to put your feet down when you get to a junction. The rear of the trike has coil-sprung suspension to soften bumpy roads or trails, while the differential maintains traction and makes for predictable handling. Hub gears permit shifts when stationary really useful if you arrive at a junction in a high gear then need to set off again in a lower ratio. The best bit? This trike goes backwards thanks to its innovative reverse gear. This was our demonstration model and is available now with a saving of nearly 500 compared to a new model. That s why their three wheelers are amongst the most expensive in their class when bought new. This used example has all the features we look for in a good trike: low step; enclosed transmission; hub gears and brakes; space for luggage and most importantly a differential for consistent grip and predictable, safe handling. Ride a single wheel drive tricycle back to back with one with a differential and you ll appreciate the difference a differential makes straight away. Put simply, they re better...but they add considerably to the manufacturing cost and consequently a new trike with a diff is always going to cost more than its 1WD cousin.
