Introduction to EGIS EGIS RAIL From conceptual design to commissioning Feasibility studies Preliminary and detailed designs Tender packages Project Management Construction Management Tests & Commissioning Assistance Driverless Metro - Standard Metro - LRT - Tram-train Inter-city Railway - High Speed Lines - Buses 9/39 Preamble Definitions SYSTEM INTEGRATION: System integration is the bringing together of various subsystems in order to ensure that they function together as a system. OPERABILITY: Operability is the ability to keep an equipment, a system or a whole industrial installation in a safe and reliable functioning condition, according to pre-defined operational requirements. 10/39 5
Preamble Approach through operability requirements One of the keys to a successful System integration stands in the right definition of the System itself and therefore the functions it has to achieve Operation objectives? Costs? Constraints? System preliminary definition Operability? 11/39 Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Lille s situation Lille Greater Lille Area 85 districts inhabitants 12/39 6
Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Existing network and system The Transport Authority : LMCU (Lille Métropole Communauté Urbaine) The Metro network : Line 1: 13.5 kilometres, 18 stations first commissioning in 1983 Line 2: 32 kilometres, 44 stations first commissioning in 1989 (last extension in 2000). VAL System : Rubber-tyred Specific track design Light metro Unattended Train operation Common OCC for both lines Interchangeable Rolling stock (VAL206 and VAL208) 13/39 Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Line 1 route 14/39 7
Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Key features 13.5 kilometres (inc. 9 km underground), 18 stations PSD at each platform Stations equipped for 26-meters trains operation but constructed to accommodate 52-metres trains (CW) Two passenger connections with Line 2 Transfer track with line 2 53 VAL208 trains (26m long, and 2.08m wide) Operation centralized at the OCC Track heating equipment on exterior sections 15/39 Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Operation performance Line capacity (4 pax/m²): 8500 PPHPD Commercial operation from around 5:15am to 1:00am (Day+1) Commercial operation range exceptionally extended to 44 hours Commercial Speed: 32 km/h Peak periods: 6:55am to 7:25am, and 4:40pm to 5:10pm Minimum operational headway: 60 seconds Train capacity (4 pax/m²): 156 passengers Four provisional terminus 16/39 8
Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Project objectives Increase the system capacity to at least PPHPD Double train capacity by doubling their length: New RS order : new 52-m trains or 26-m trains that can be coupled / Twenty-six existing VAL m trains will be coupled Station platform modification to accommodate the 52-m trains: PSD, cameras, Finishings, etc. Additional access creation to some stations Increase depot capacity Power Supply and Tunnel Ventilation adaptation to new operation configuration 17/39 Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Project objectives Replace/Modernize all obsolete equipments Adapt the stations to match nowadays accessibility standards Replace the ATC (including ATO/ATP functions) Replace the system supervision (ATS, SCADA, CCTV and Communication means) Replace pneumatic PSD with electric ones Replace Power Supply equipments Replace Low Voltage Distribution Panels Replace Tunnel ventilation and smoke exhaust systems Adapt the stations to match the upgraded standards regarding in particuliar access for disabled people. 18/39 9
Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Project objectives Implement new functions On-board CCTV Automatic anouncements on incidents Information on train stopping in interstation Limitation of train stoppings in interstation Mixed fleet operation (simultaneous operation of 52-m and 26-m trains) Realtime stopping point selection from OCC Improvement of operation of provisional terminus: Simplify stteing and cancellation procedures Bidirectional operation on one terminus 19/39 Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Project objectives Line 1 possible extension 1 or 2 additional stations after C.H.R. B-CALMETTE terminus 20/39 10
Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Major constraints Operation must not be disturbed at any time Level of safety must be maintained Inconvenience to passengers should always be minimized Train detection system cannot easily be reused Existing wayside VAL equipment is very sensitive to unexpected train movements, and to unequipped trains (ie. trains without VAL on-board equipment). 21/39 Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Major constraints Conversion of Line 1, to a more efficient and modern line, closer to the needs of passengers and Operation staff Renewal of operating systems, without disruption of service, and maintaining the security level Implementation and commissioning of a new UTO ATC replacing an existing UTO ATC a World first Replacement of PDSs, on a line already in UTO a World first 22/39 11
Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Major steps Rehearsal on the test track at 4 Cantons Depot Test Track will be equipped with the new wayside ATC and OCC equipments Two existing trains will be equipped with the new on-board ATC equipment No change in Operation of Line 1 23/39 Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Major steps Existing situation 24/39 12
Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Major steps Renewal Step 1 Operation supervised from the existing OCC Operation with existing trains and equipments Installation of the new PSD Installation of temporary OCC Tests of new equipments from temporary OCC 25/39 Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Major steps Renewal Step 2 26-m trains operated with new ATC Operation & tests supervised from temporary OCC New platforms operated with new PSD Stations with new accesses and all necessary equipments Fitting out of old platforms (new PSD and all necessary equipments) Refurbishing of existing OCC 26/39 13
Lille Metro Line 1 renewal project Major steps Final situation New platform fitted for commercial operation (New PSD) New OCC New Equipements 52-m/26-m trains mixed operation with new ATC Operation supervised from the refurbished OCC Platforms equipped for full length operation 27/39 requirements Focus Why do operablity requirements need to be taken into account in System integration? What can new technologies bring to enhance the System s operability? 28/39 14
requirements Taking into account operability requirements when designing the System: System detailed definition 29/39 requirements Example: Passenger exchange management Centralized HMI (OCC) Local HMI 30/39 15
requirements Frequent centralized HMI operability issues (1) Abilty to manage degraded modes HMI integration 31/39 requirements Frequent centralized HMI operability issues (2) Understandable information Crucial commands availability and accessibility 32/39 16
requirements Frequent local HMI operability issues Local HMI protection Local HMI centralized supervision Local HMI accessibility 33/39 requirements New technologies enhancing System operability (1) Provisional Terminus management: - Reducing setting and cancellation durations - Allowing one shot tunbacks Earlier retrun to depot 34/39 17
requirements New technologies enhancing System operability (2) Increasing provisional services possibilities Normal Operation Existing situation New possibilities 35/39 requirements New technologies enhancing System operability (3) Undesirable train stopping prevention 36/39 18
requirements New technologies enhancing System operability (4) Unexpected train stopping 37/39 requirements Conclusion Operability requirements to be taken into account in the System s design in order to ensure a successful integration Operability requirements must be considered at the equipment level but above all at the System s level New technologies allow operability improvements 38/39 19
