MIX & MATCH AS REQUIRED The proposed solutions can be combined within a single project according to the urban environment through which it travels. For example, a tramway can provide an express service in the city outskirts then become more urban with a stop-by-stop service in the city centre. TRAMWAY EXPRESS CLASSIC SHORT ECO EXPRESS CLASSIC SHORT ECO EXPRESS Egis SA - RCS Versailles / Photos Egis - Sébastien Buttarazzi - January 2017 EGIS, DESIGNING THE LONG TERM Egis, 75%-owned by the French Caisse des Dépôts and 25%-owned by Iosis Partenaires, is an international group offering engineering, project structuring and operations services. In engineering and consulting, its sectors of activity include transport, urban development, building, industry, water, environment and energy. In roads and airports, its offer is enlarged to encompass project structuring, equity investment, turnkey systems delivery and operation services. Egis specialist urban and railway transport engineering teams provide support and advice to project owners from upstream design to commissioning. A NEW TAKE ON THE TRAMWAY AN APPROACH FOR TAILORED SOLUTIONS Cities are in search of attractive public transport systems that promote sustainable mobility. Traditional tramway solutions have previously provided appropriate responses for many local authorities, but their expectations are becoming increasingly specific. 2 IN LIGHT OF THESE NEW REQUIREMENTS, AND AS PART OF ITS TRAMWAY AUTREMENT INITIATIVE, EGIS HAS DEVELOPED TAILORED SOLUTIONS. CLASSIC SHORT ECO EXPRESS AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH AND SPECIFIC SOLUTIONS This approach helps to identify all of the possible options and non-variable factors in a tram system, then analyse the usefulness, performance levels and costs of the conceivable options. Several types of tram system have been designed taking into account the following parameters: street layout, station and depot type, service precision, technology employed, vehicle capacity and operating headways. For each of these parameters, options can be selected ranging from the highest quality to the most expedient. INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS BASED ON INDUSTRIAL STANDARDS These solutions are innovative in that they renhance the variety of possible tram projects, and consequently the range of environments in which this mode of transport may be suitable. Nevertheless, these solutions are always based on proven technologies 4 SOLUTIONS SUITED TO LOCAL AUTHORITY EXPECTATIONS The various design options for a tram line can be adapted and combined to form a wide spectrum of solutions. The expertise of Egis s teams has led to the development of four distinct tramway categories, suited to the configurations typically encountered in France: CLASSIC SHORT ECO EXPRESS Investment requirements for these four categories range from 5 to 25 million euros before tax per kilometre of line.
Tramway Autrement CLASSIC TRAMWAY CONCEPT A tramway that involves high quality public space development and a resolutely modern image for the city, together with the construction of distinctive buildings and stations, and sophisticated systems and equipment. The line offers a high density of stops with relatively high capacity vehicles, and excellent service frequency to enhance its attractiveness. Examples of deployment Tram systems in Paris, Lyon (T1/T2), Le Mans, Brest, Dijon, Strasbourg, Grenoble, Montpellier, Marseille and Dublin Cost / km SUITABILITY > > When expectations are high with regard to image and streetscape > > When the architecture of stations and depot buildings is important > > When there are high operating constraints > > When a high-capacity vehicle is required for passenger transportation > > When the system s appeal is an important criterion million

Tramway Autrement SHORT TRAMWAY CONCEPT A tramway that involves high quality public spaces and a resolutely modern image for the city, but with less elaborate systems and equipment. The line includes a high density of stops with vehicles the size of an articulated bus, and excellent service frequency to enhance its attractiveness. Examples of deployment Tram systems in Besancon and Aubagne Cost / km SUITABILITY > > When expectations are high with regard to image and streetscape > > When it is feasible to simplify facilities and systems > > When there is lower demand for transport services > > When the system s appeal is an important criterion million
Egis - Le Carat avenue Thiers LYON Cedex 06 - FRANCE Tel. +33 (0) Egis - S.A. - RCS Versailles January 2017
Tramway Autrement ECONOMICAL TRAMWAY CONCEPT A tram line built with urban redevelopment limited to the roads bordering the track bed. This tram has a low level of systems and equipment. It is based on high capacity vehicles and service frequencies reduced to every 7 or 8 minutes during peak hours. This concept requires some standardisation of rolling stock and stations, and offers a limited range of options. Examples of deployment Lyon light rail line 3 Cost / km million SUITABILITY > > When cost effectiveness is the overriding factor > > When transport is a crucial issue > > When urban refurbishment may be designed with standard materials > > When the architecture of stations and depot buildings is not an important issue > > When technology can be simplified
Egis - Le Carat avenue Thiers LYON Cedex 06 - FRANCE Tel. +33 (0) Egis - S.A. - RCS Versailles January 2017
Tramway Autrement EXPRESS TRAMWAY CONCEPT A tram line built with inexpensive materials, using tracks laid on ballast, passing through nonurbanised areas, or with street redevelopment limited to the roads bordering the track bed. This tramway can be designed with simplified systems and passenger facilities, and provides a service frequency of between 15 and 20 minutes at peak times. In order to ensure very high commercial speeds (40 to 60 km/h) the stations should be spaced 2 to 5 kilometres apart. Examples of deployment Rhônexpress light rail line (Lyon airport shuttle) Cost / km 5-10 million SUITABILITY > > When authorities wish to provide connections between suburban sectors, into city centres, or feeding onto mainlines > > When rapid transport services are desired that are independent of the national rail network
