2 INDIAN POWER SECTOR Total installed generation capacity as on 31 st March 2013 is 2,23,344 MW (incl. renewables 27,541 MW and Hydro 39,491 MW) India is the 5 th largest producer and consumer of electricity in the world after US, China, Japan and Russia Total Transmission lines in India : 2,74,588 CKM Total Substation equip. capacity in India : 4,73,216 MVA

3 IEEMA & Indian Electrical Manufacturing Industry Capability The Indian Industry is a Mature Industry in existence since last more than 100 years 90% of all the electrical equipment currently in operation in India has been supplied by IEEMA members. Founded in 1948, IEEMA has over 800 member companies whose gross annual turnover is in excess of USD 25 billion and covers the entire industrial spectrum - from public sector enterprises, multinational companies to small, medium and large companies - giving it a truly national character. Indian exports of Electrical Equipment are estimated at USD 5 billion even to advanced countries. 5 1200kV UHVAC Technology..World s Highest Transmission Voltage 1200kV Switchyard (S/C Line) The initiative led by Ministry of Power and PGCIL was successful which resulted in indigenous development of 1200 kv electrical equipment and transmission system within a short period of 5 years. It includes equipment like transformers, switchgear, CVT, Insulators, Surge Arrestors, Isolators, 100 Meters Tall Towers, Line Hardware & Conductors 30 IEEMA members participated in this path breaking initiative where IEEMA also played a pivotal role. The test station has been established at BINA, MP and is currently operational.
