Local/national regulations however, have to be respected. Depending on model, Xenon flash lights can be connected. Operation of complete unit via remote hand set. HLPK 13 is a bi-voltage unit and runs on 12 and 24 Volt, self adjusted. Bulb monitoring, night dimming and deep discharge protection are integral parts of the unit. Bulb failure is indicated on the remote hand set. Night dimming adjusts the luminous intensity acc. to ambient light conditions, thus avoiding dazzling of traffic participants. Deep discharge protection switches off the HLPK 13 on a certain battery level, thus protecting battery from damage. The complete electronic (main controller) is placed inside the HLPK 13. All circuit boards are made with plug connectors, except the rising/lowering actuator. For replacement of circuit board, use a socket wrench SW 7 and a screwdriver with max. 3 mm blade width. There are no maintenance requiring parts inside the housing of the HLPK13. 4 Safety Instructions Set up and use of the HLPK 13 in the public shall be done only in compliance with local/national regulations. Charging batteries may create explosive gas. You must... - not smoke - avoid sparks and care for proper ventilation - not use any flammable detergents nearby the batteries - follow instructions of battery manufacturer Remote hand set ARROW LEFT ARROW RIGHT CROSS ADDITIONAL- LAMP RISING LOWERING ON / OFF Operation time of HLPK 13 is basically depending on the type and condition of the used batteries. Low ambient temperatures can reduce operation time. Speed limits (HLPK 13 with rising/lowering device, mounted on vehicles) 30 km/h in upright position 120 km/h in lowered position 150 km/h in lowered position, additionally locked manually - Before opening the housing or before any maintenance/service, shut down power supply; first disconnect PLUS and then MINUS. - Check all fixations regularly. - Make sure that the space for rising/lowering is free from any obstacles and persons in order to avoid injuries. - In case the HLPK 13 shall be operated directly from vehicle onboard mains an appropriate fuse shall be used. Operation and functions Connect remote hand set to the socket. (see page 4 Fig. A) SWITCH ON press key shortly, control lamp (1) on SWITCH OFF press key 3-5 seconds control lamp (1) off ARROW LEFT control lamp (2) is flashing synchronized to light arrow CROSS control lamp (4) is flashing synchronized to light arrow Maintenance works on a regular basis - In case HLPK 13 is run via batteries, keep batteries in good and clean condition and charge them regularly, preferably after each use. Keep battery poles free from corrosion. - Visibly check for damages/breaks. - Do not pressure wash. ARROW RIGHT control lamp (3) is flashing synchronized to light arrow ADDITIONAL LIGHTS (Xenon) control lamp (5) is flashing synchronized to additional lights Relevant control lamps switch OFF in case of malfunction. - Disconnect from batteries when not in use for longer time. - Store in dry place. Version with automatic rising/lowering: UNIT DOWN, final position is indicated by control lamp (7) NOTE: Rising/lowering stops automatically when the unit is detected in its final position by the inductive proximity switches or when the rising/lowering button is released. 6 Trouble shooting ATTENTION! Repairs, maintenance and service shall be done by qualified staff only. Bulb replacement: Break down of lights are indicated on the remote hand set - switch off unit, open housing - avoid skin contact with bulbs/flash tubes - replace bulb/flash tube, close housing ATTENTION! Xenon flash lights can create electric shocks due to charged capacitors. Wait at least one minute before opening Xenon flash lights. Before set up of the light arrow unit check their correct positions (no bending or loose nuts, no dirt, etc.). Switching is done in approx. 3 mm distance to metal. Integral green LED indicates proper function

8 Mounting on roof racks The basic rack bars must be bolted to the metal frame of the HLPK 13 via the included anti-vibration buffers. The tailor made nuts have to be inserted into the rack bars (rectangular profile) of standard roof racks such as brand ATERA, THULE, etc.. This requires some drillings from top of bars however, not through! The pitch is given by the basic frame. Two rack bars are needed for the rising/lowering frame, part no ATTENTION! Min. distance between vehicle roof and HLPK 13 part no shall be 110 mm.
