To mitigate this concern, the fuel pump manufacturer recommends the following changes to the fuel-oil piping to be incorporated to drawing UP P 6001: Suggestion: Answer: 1. Instead of drawing from the top of the tank, the fuel supply line should come from the side of the tank near the bottom, drawing from the balance line between the two tanks (tank #2 by owner). The tank will sit on pedestals that should be about 3ft tall, and the saddle is 6" tall. If drawn from the tank near the bottom, we should be able to run the pipe over the containment wall or offset slightly up and over. 2. Uncertainty if a mechanical anti-siphon valve will work, it may require installation of a solenoid operated valve that is normally closed and would open if any of the pumps came on. This would require a control panel in the CUP which receives input from each pump and a signal wire from the CUP to the valve at the tank. It would require signal wires running from the CUP to the fuel tanks. 3. NFPA requires that the bottom 5% of the fuel in the fuel tank be unusable. That would require the nozzle for supplying the line to be 1 - from the bottom of the tank. 4. These are subtle changes, and we do not believe any of these changes would affect the SFM review. Would it be acceptable to proceed with these recommendations in order for us to begin procurement and selection of these fuel-oil pumps? If so, we ask a DSI to be issued to reflect the recommendations since it may affect other scopes of work. NOTE: An RFI response cannot change the requirements of the Contract Documents.
