1 MBE 4000 SERVICE MANUAL 7.7 HENGST BREATHER FILTER The following sections deal with removing and installing the Hengst breather filter Removal of Hengst Filter and Bracket Perform the following steps to remove the breather filter: 1. 2 7.7 HENGST BREATHER FILTER 2. Unsnap the filter cap and remove the spring and diaphragm from centrifugal filter. Centrifugal Filter Fig ure 7-45 H en gst Filter Assem bly 3. Unclip the three plastic clamps holding the breather piping to the bracket and remove the piping. S ee F igure Remove the two bolts from the air compressor and the block that are securing the piping bracket and remove the piping bracket. 5. Remove the three M8 x 35 mm bolts holding the breather filter to the flywheel housing. 6. Remove the breather housing from the block tube housing on flywheel housing. 7. Rem ove the brea ther housing gaske t, s eal ring, and w as her, if applicable. S ee F igure If breather contains the former style of seal ring, remove it from the groove in the breather housing. 4 7.7 HENGST BREATHER FILTER 8. Clean any residual oil from the seal ring groove in the breather housing and from the mounting surface at the flywheel housing using a common solvent. 9. 5 MBE 4000 SERVICE MANUAL 1. Install the engine block breather tube housing and new seal ring to the block using two M8 x 25 mm bolts. Torque bolts to 25 N m (18 lb f t). 6 7.7 HENGST BREATHER FILTER 2. Install the centrifugal filter, spring, and diaphragm into the breather housing and secure with two as sem bly bolts. Torque to 12 N m ( 9 lb ft). S ee F igure Add the new washer at the upper bolt location behind the breather housing to compensate for the thicknes s of the bre ather housing gas ket. 8 7.7 HENGST BREATHER FILTER 8. Install all three M8 x 35 mm breather housing bolts and torque to 25 N m (18 lb ft). 1. Filter Piping 3. Hengst Filter 2. Filter Piping Bracket 4. Attach the filter piping bracket to the air compressor and block as follows: [a] Install a M14 x 60 mm bolt with a spacer at the engine block. Torque to 100 N m (74 lb ft). [b] Install a M10 x 35 mm bolt at the air compressor. Torque to 60 N m (44 lb ft). 10. Connect filter pipe to the top of the Hengst filter. 11.
