2 NOTE 1 : S.O.A. inspection For several years TURBOMECA has set up a survey of engine by spectrometric analysis of oils. This survey has proved particularly safe for preventing the majority of mechanical discrepancies. Perform the first sampling during the first ground run for installation of the engine in the airframe. This sampling will be used as a reference for the calculation of concentrations and rates of contamination. The inspection should be performed every 100 hours (recommended). The inspection is compulsory every 100 hours if Module 02 or Module 04 has completed more than 3000 operating hours since new or Overhaul. NOTE 2 : Furthermore, inspection of the magnetic plugs of the reduction gear and accessory box will be carried out according to the rate of flights accomplished by each operator, that is : 1) Accessory box magnetic plug - Every 30 hours 2) Reduction gear magnetic plug B PRE-MOD. TU232 Every 8 hours or after the last flight of the day 6 POST-MOD. TU232 Every 30 hours A-A1 POST-MOD. TU13 and PRE-MOD. TU232 Every 8 hours or after the last flight of the day A-A1 PRE-MOD. TU1 3 or POST-MOD. TU232 Every 30 hours A2 every 30 hours. Cleaning of these magnetic plugs will be systematically carried out during routine inspection and only casually in the course of other inspections. NOTE 3 : Check for clogging of gas generator rear bearing - Compulsory every 100 hours: B variant - Compulsory every 450 hours: A-A1 -A2 variants NOTE 4 : Cleaning of the gas generator rear bearing - Compulsory every 1000 hours: B variant - Recommended every 1000 hours: for the other variants Effectivity : A-Al-A2-B Page May 20C

Necessary conditions REAR BEARING - POWER TURBINE NOZZLE GUIDE VANE MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE The oil temperature must be more than 60 C If not, do a ground run (refer to Chapter ). B. Equipment and materials 1) Tooling C. Procedure a) Mechanic's standard tool kit, plus : - A test tube graduated in ml. WARNING : DO NOT BREATHE OIL VAPORS. MAKE SURE THAT THE AREA WHERE YOU WORK IS OPEN TO THE AIR. DO NOT GET THE OIL ON YOUR SKIN. PUT RUBBER GLOVES AND A FACE SHIELD OR SAFETY GOGGLES. THE OIL CAN BE POISONOUS. I) Remove the rear bearing oil scavenge pipe. 2) Install a vessel beneath the rear bearing scavenge tube. 3) Do a preliminary ventilation until the oil flows (system priming). 4) Install a graduated test tube under the rear bearing scavenge pipe. 5) Do a ventilation for 15 seconds (refer to the procedure given in Chapter ). 0 The min. NG must be of 15 %. The voltage loss must not be less than 15 volts. 0 Beyond these limits, Voltage and NG criteria must be the same through successive checks in order to have reliable records. 4 6) Remove all the oil until the oil flow stops. The quantity of the oil removed must be more than 50 ml (refer to the NOTE 1). a) If the oil does not flow or if the quantity removed is less than 30 ml EXAMINE THE OIL INLET AND THE OIL RETURN TUBES OF THE REAR BEARING (Page block 600 of this chapter) (refer to the NOTE 2), as well as the unions at tube inlets. 0. CLOGGED TUBES OR UNIONS : 0. CLEANTUBES AND UNIONS : CLEAN TUBES AND UNIONS (Page block 700 of this chapter) EXAMINE THE REAR BEARING FOR CLOGGING IF THE QUANTITY OF THE OIL REMOVED IS LESS THAN 50 ml, CLEAN THE REAR BEARING (Page block 700 of this chapter) (refer to the NOTE 3). CLEAN THE REAR BEARING (Page block 700 of this chapter) (refer to the NOTE 3). 0 DRAIN THE OIL SYSTEM (refer to the Chapter , page block 200). b) If the quantity of the oil removed is more than 30 ml and less than 50 ml : - Carbon particles in the strainer or in the filter : EXAMINE THE OIL INLET AND OIL RETURN TUBES AND UNIONS OF THE REAR BEARING (Page block 600 of this chapter). 0. CLOGGED TUBES AND UNIONS : this chapter) 0. 5 - If the strainer and the filter are clean : EXAMINE THE OIL INLET AND OIL RETURN TUBES AND UNIONS OF THE REAR BEARING (Page block 600 of this chapter) DO THE NEXT CHECK AFTER A 25-HOUR OPERATING TIME TO HAVE A TREND MONITORING. c) Write the check and/or the cleaning procedures and also the quantities of the oil removed on the engine log book. NOTE 1 : The check for the rear bearing clogging is a trend monitoring. The coking of the rear bearing depends on the quantity of the oil removed during the different checks. If this quantity is less than the quantity found during the previous checks, you must do another check to make sure that this result is correct, after the engine operation at the idle speed. Example : previous permeability : 80 ml last check : 60 ml - If the result of the check is less than 50 ml, apply the instructions of paragraph 6)b)- - If the difference between two consecutive checks is confirmed (difference in excess of 25 %) apply the instructions of paragraph 6) b), even if the 50 ml limit is not reached. NOTE 2 : In some cases, the concentration of the coke can be at the tubekopper sealbearing junction. Refer to the page block 600 of this chapter. NOTE 3 : After the replacement, the operator can send the rear bearing assembly back to the factory for cleaning. NOTE 4 : Report to TURBOMECA or their Technical Support network (by mail or by fax) any cleaning procedure performed. Review module or engine data. 7) 8) Make sure internal walls of the rear bearing oil scavenge pipe are clean. Remove the strainer-holder from the rear bearing oil return line : - Examine and clean the strainer-holder and the strainer (refer to Chapter ). Effectivity : ALL VARIANTS Page 203 May 2000

Equipment and materials 1) Tooling a) The mechanic's standard tool kit, plus : - Atank - A thermometer 1 15 C (239 F) - A nylon brush - A reamer or a drill bit of 0.8 mm (0.032 in) and 0.9 mm (0.036 in) in diameter - The drill bits (ID of the tubes : mm) ( in) - A cytindrical brush (for the gun barrels). 2) Materials - Descaler for the hot sections - Cleaners }Chapter , paragraph 3. 8 I C. I Cleaning of the PT nozzle guide vane (PT NGV), the rear bearing, the cover, the cage, the screws and the deflector. WARNING : DO NOT GET THE DESCALERS ON YOUR SKIN. THE DESCALERS ARE VERY STRONG ALKALIS. PUT THE RUBBER GLOVES AND A FACE SHIELD OR THE SAFETY GOGGLES. IF YOU GET THE DESCALERS ON YOUR SKIN, CAREFULLY CLEAN WITH SOME WATER AND APPLY A BORIC ACID SOLUTION. 1) Put the parts into a tank and attach them to the edge of the tank with lockwire. CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE LEVEL OF THE DESCALER IS BELOW THE ABRADABLE OF THE LABYRINTH COVER ASSEMBLY. 2) Put the descaler for the hot sections (40 Yo descaler, 60 Yo water). 3) Heat the assembly. Obey the instructions given in the NOTE about the descalers for the hot sections (Chapter paragraph 3). WARNING : BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE THE BATH TO PREVENT A BURN. 4) Remove the parts, remove the lockwire from the cage. I 5) Do a first rinsing of the parts. 6) Flush carefully the parts with some cold water while you brush the inside of the parts with the nylon brush. 7) Flush the parts with some hot water 8) Dry at 100 C (212 F) in an oven or with some dry compressed air. 9) Do the procedure again, if necessary. 9 ARRlEL 1 TURBOSHAFT ENGINE D. 10 ARRIEL 1 E. Cleaning of the tubes 1) 2) Clean the tubes with a cleaner (refer to the Chapter ) and a nylon brush. Decarbonize the inside of the tubes with a drill bit of the applicable diameter, or with a cylindrical brush (for the riffle barrels). F. Cleaning of the outer ring, the separator and the rollers of the bearing For the procedures below : WARNING : DO NOT GET THE DESCALERS ON YOUR SKIN. THE DESCALERS ARE VERY STRONG ALKALIS. PUT THE RUBBER GLOVES AND A FACE SHIELD OR THE SAFETY GOGGLES. IF YOU GET THE DESCALERS ON YOUR SKIN, CAREFULLY CLEAN WITH SOME WATER AND APPLY A BORIC ACID SOLUTION. Put fully the parts into a bath of the descaler for the hot sections (Refer to the Chapter paragraph 3). Heat (refer to the specification of the descaler, Chapter paragraph 3). Remove the parts. Do a first rinsing of the parts. Flush carefully the parts with some cold water while you brush the inside of the housing with a nylon brush. Flush with some hot water. Dry the parts with some dry compressed air, then dry them at 100 C (212 F) in an oven. Make sure that the rollers tum freely and smoothly. Do the procedure again, if necessary. 10) Put the parts fully into some engine oil after the cleaning. Effectivity : ALL VARIANTS Page December 1995
