2 The conducts a remarkable amount of excellent interdisciplinary research. Typically, the core results, figures and messages are distilled and distributed through a variety of public media, such as journal and conference papers, presentations and seminars. However, the great bulk of the work happens behind the scenes. Images, simulations, and visualizations are produced, discussed and debated, but are only visible to colleagues and collaborators. With this calendar, we invite you to take the opportunity to view some of the fascinating images that arise as the group explores the many and diverse research areas and methods that are a part of CSI. 3 Advanced microtomography based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of interfacial heat transfer in a porous sintered copper structure typically used in heat pipes for thermal management of electronics. The variation in color scaling indicates the local temperature variation due to fluid flow within the structure (as indicated by stream traces).
