11 Note by David W. Salter: Seaboard On a cool and cloudy December 23, 1966, Train No. 7, THE SUNLAND passes through Baldwin, Florida southbound. The train is turning from the East-West line from Jacksonville onto the North- South main. The line in the foreground continues on to Tallahassee and River Junction (used by THE GULF WIND) and the other track that runs diagonally across the picture and crosses this one is the line to Callahan and Gross known as The Gross Cut-off. The photographer is looking East. Power on this date consisted of GP18, No. 400 in the lead assisting two E units with a heavy consist of Christmas mail and express. Tracks curving to the left lead to the Terminal Station and connections with other railroads in Atlanta (except the Atlanta Joint Terminals which was reached by the Belt Line ). The train is on a leg of the Birmingham wye. The Freight Lead into Howells Yard is the second track from the right of the photograph (that goes to the west of the ice shed). The track to the immediate right is to the passenger car tracks and service area.
