It also contains a table of statistics for local authorities. The local authority table shows the latest figures on total Housing Benefit recipients, recipients of Local Housing Allowance (the form of Housing Benefit paid to tenants in the private deregulated sector) and average received per week (all for July 2010). Alongside these are the latest figures on total Housing Benefit expenditure in each LA (2009/10). Local authorities are arranged in the table according to Government Office Region and then ranked according to the number of recipients per 1,000 residents aged 16 and over. A range of Housing Benefit statistics is available from the DWP website. Housing Benefit statistics are not available for Parliamentary constituencies. 2 1 National overview There were 4,777,430 recipients of Housing Benefit in Great Britain in July 2010, receiving on average per week. 69% of Housing Benefit recipients are tenants in the social rented sector, while 31% live in private rented accommodation. Tables 1 and 2 below show detailed time series data on the number of Housing Benefit recipients and the average paid, both broken down by tenure type. Since 1991/92, total expenditure on Housing Benefit has more than doubled in real terms - from 10.2 billion (10% of total benefit spend) in to 20.6 billion (14% of total benefit spend) in Over the same period, real-terms expenditure on all benefits rose by 42% (see chart). Housing Benefit expenditure is forecast to peak at 21.5 billion this year before declining in real terms for the following three years (see table 3).
