7 Technical Information DZR Balancing Valves Jet 9515 Jet 9510 Jet 9400 Jet 9515, 9510 & 9400 (DZR brass body) are designed to be installed on heating and cooling systems, they allow the correct balance between the different branches of a hydraulic heating / cooling system to be obtained. These valves can be used to: Regulate the flow by modifying the position of the throttling disk, through rotating the hand wheel. There are 40 different positions as shown by the figures on the hand wheel. Stop the flow at any time and when re-opened to recover the same previous setting of the hand wheel using the memory stop function - (refer to valve setting paragraph). Evaluate the flow passing through the valve; by measuring the differential pressure between the test points (not applicable on Jet 9510) and using the fixed orifice Kvs value which is constant and independent from the hand wheel position (see Valve Setting Graph) to calculate. Jet DZR brass balancing valves are intended to be used for non-hazardous liquids only. These include liquids in the group 2 fluid classification as defined by the Pressure Equipment Directive (Dir. 2014/68/EU). This together with the Temperature and Pressure rating shown below places the Jet balancing valves in the SEP category, for which the CE logo is not required. Valve Setting Jet 9515 / 9400 Pre-regulation is achieved by turning the hand wheel along its four turn stroke until the desired flow rate is reached. Flow rate is derived from the differential pressure signal measures at the two test points (see flow chart above). The current pre-setting of the valve can be read on the graded scale of the hand wheel with an accuracy of one tenth of a turn (double zero indicates that the valve is closed). Valve Setting Jet 9510 Valve pre-setting can be done by using the appropriate flow graphs specific to each diameter. Versions for low flow are identified by a letter marked on the body next to the nominal diameter indication (L for low flows). The operating conditions shown above are intended for non-shock operating conditions: Water hammer, Impacts, stress loads, corrosive or erosive external environmental elements and the transport of fluids with abrasive properties should be avoided. Minimum flow can be measured for each diameter using the formula with the minimum p that can be measured by manometer. Valves are designed for best performance when used on range suggested and as indicated by BS7350. 9 Installation & Maintenance Information DZR Balancing Valves Jet 9515 Jet 9510 Jet 9400 Installation Jet 9515 & Jet 9510 valves 1/2 and 3/4 have Female end connections threaded ISO 228/1. Jet 9515 & Jet 9510 valves 1 to 2 have Female end connections threaded ISO 7/1Rp. Jet 9400 valves 1/2 and 3/4 have Male / Female end connections threaded ISO 228/1. Jet 9400 valves 1 to 2 have Male / Female end connections threaded ISO 7/1Rp. It is important that the flow direction matches the direction of the arrow indicated on the body of the valve. The Jet 9510 delivers great performance, however to obtain the best flow accuracy it is advisable to install the Jet 9400 metering station. The Jet 9515 includes Test Points for convenience and the best flow measuring accuracy. It is advisable to install the Jet 9515/9510/9400 valves with the following considerations: 1. use pipes of the same nominal size as the regulating valve. 2. With a minimum straight pipe length equal to 5 x pipe diameter at the inlet (10 x when installed at the outlet of a pump) and 2 x pipe diameter at the outlet. (refer to diagram below). 3. avoid flow restrictions - de-burr any pipe ends before connecting to the valve. 4. Flush the pipeline for any debris before use, and after subsequent maintenance on the system. 5. The valve should be installed in such a way that the pipeline does not subject the valve to any torsion, bending or tension. 6. during the Installation please leave sufficient space around the test points in order to allow enough room to connect a Manometer probe. Maintaining the required valve setting Once the required valve flow rate has been reached it is possible to set the Memory Stop device as follows; 1. With a small tool gently remove the plastic cap at the centre of the hand wheel. 2. insert the hexagon 3mm Allen key provided into the central bore and whilst leaving the hand wheel in its desired position, tighten the inner screw clockwise until it stops (do not over tighten). 3. Replace the plastic cap. It is possible to prevent tampering by sealing the cap to the upper part of the hand wheel by using a specific wire with lead seals threaded through the pre-existing slots. 4. now the valve may be closed, thus interrupting the flow; once re-opened, the memory stop will return to the previous setting. 10 Installation & Maintenance Information DZR Balancing Valves Valve Tag The Jet 9510/9515/9400 valves are supplied with a data tag indicating; 1. The fig number of the valve type. 2. The nominal size. 3. The value of the flow co-efficient Kvs (Jet 9515 / 9400 only). On the tag there is sufficient room to write the required setting of the valve, indicating either the hand wheel setting figures, the desired flow rate or the pressure signal. The valve identity tag can be fixed to the hand wheel using the provided plastic tie provided, by keeping the tie long the identity tag should remain visible outside of any thermal insulation applied. Presetting By using the adjacent diagram it is possible to calculate the presetting position of the valve with given design flowrate and headloss: 1. draw a straight line joining design flowrate and design headloss; 2. determine design Kv value as intersection of drawn line and Kv axis; 3. draw a straight horizontal line from intersection previously identified and the specific valve DN Axis; 4. intersection determines handwheel position to use for presetting. In the example for a design flowrate of 2,5m 3 /h and design Δp 35kPa handwheel position of 1,5 is determined for a DN32 valve. 10 Technical guide Jet balancing valve
