3 PAGE 3 President Bill s Monthly Message I would like to start this month s newsletter off with only One word, Training! In only a few weeks time we will be holding our First dealers meeting of the year on February 15th at The Rosedale Technical college. Casual clothes will be appropriate to wear, and Families and friends are invited. We will start with a meet and greet from PM. this will be followed by presentations from tire Industry Leaders, Rema & Shradder. Presentations will include class style Demonstrations, hands on clinics, refreshments, and drinks. The cost per Ticket is $ If Return on investment is a concern for your business, Then here it is. An Investment in your employee(s) is an investment in Your business. Personally, I operate on a small scale, and even at such a Small scale, this sort of investment return from the education provided is Huge, and who could ignore such an inevitable correlation. I ve always Been supportive of what consequently leads to productivity, and if our Association can help your business operate in any way, we will. With that Being said, our Job as an organization is to provide you with the most Value and support for your membership. Training in my eyes is one if not The most valuable. So please, invest in yourself, and we ll see you on Monday the 15th!!!

4 Page 4 The FITZ Report: Legislative update on issues impacting tire dealers. This page is dedicated to keeping our members informed of legislation and regulations that our elected officials and bureaucrats in Harrisburg and Washington are proposing. Tire Registration - FAST Act: You may be thinking that you read the Fast Act within the Federal Transportation Bill that contains the Tire Registration requirement changes was passed and signed into law so why have I not heard what to do yet. Yes the bill was passed and signed into law but no rules have been put into effect yet. The bill directs the Secretary of the Department of Transportation to determine the rules to require tire retailers to register all the new tires they sell at the point of sale and send the tire and customer information to the tire manufacturers. As you know the shift from the tire retailers only needing to supply the registration cards to the consumer who then decided if they wanted to mail them in will be shifting to requiring the tire retailers that sell the tires to send in the needed information. The new law cannot take effect until the new rules are defined and approved. There is no set time frame for this and could take years. This is good because it does allow time for independent tire dealers to voice their concerns and help determine the new rules. The goal is to make sure the new rules are not to burdensome on independent tire dealers. Part of this bill calls for a study to be completed on tire registration. This study is an important part and should bring a number of the issues facing the tire retailers to light and result in better rules being set forth. However the new rules are not dependent upon the completion of this study. TIA is concerned that Congress will not want to fund the study and new rules will be made without it. TIA is requesting that independent tire dealers contact the Administrator of NHTSA to request that the NHTSA asks for specific funding for the study of tire identification be included in their upcoming budget. The entry period for the 2016 Tire Review Top Shop Awards is now open and will run through June 3. The entry form and information are now available online exclusively at the Top Shop Awards section of the Tire Review website at tirereview.com/top_shop. Entries can be completed and submitted online. The Tire Review Top Shop Awards spotlight independent tire dealers retail, commercial or wholesale that epitomize the attributes and values stressed in every issue of Tire Review: exemplary customer service and retention, training and education, merchandising and promotion, professional standards and conduct, innovation, appearance, business management, community involvement, business growth, achievement and innovation. All of the winners and finalists are profiled on the Tire Review website and in a special Top Shop section of Tire Review s October issue. In celebration of the Top Shop Awards 10th anniversary, the winner and finalists prize money has been increased. The Winner will now receive $2,500 in cash and the three Finalists will each receive $1,000 in cash.
