Description: Effective with unit number 63186, MCI has eliminated the engine door sensor switch. Parts Qty. New P/N Description Kit - Engine Compt. Magnetic Switch Retrofit Kit Contents are: Harness, Engine Compt. Light Harness, Engine Compt. Light Switch 1 7M Switch, Engine Compt. Light Tyrap Heatshrink Schematic, Service Lights, Multiplex Schematic, Service Lights, Non-Multiplex Service Information: 1. New parts will be available for service replacement. Service Procedure: General notes Read this entire procedure before beginning work. UseSafeShopPracticesAtAllTimes. 1. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Chock both sides of the tires. 2. Open the curbside rear, side service door and push the engine door release lever. 3. Open the engine door and locate the remote engine control panel. Position the ENG RUN and REMOTE START switches to the OFF position. 4. Remove the four screws from the remote engine control panel cover plate. Place the cover plate and screws aside, to be re-installed at a later step in this procedure.

Disconnect harness and remove the sensor switch ( Figure 1 ). engine door sensor switch Figure Connect the engine compartment light harness ( part number ) to the existing engine door sensor switch connector, from the existing engine compartment harness. 7. Run the engine compartment light harness to P42 ( remote engine control panel ) ( Figure 2 ). 8. Disconnect the main harness from the junction box, by turning the metal collar counter-clockwise. 9. Populate circuit 1332N in P42-hh, from the exterior of the remote engine control panel. Using tyraps ( part number ), secure the engine compartment light harness to the existing engine compartment harness. P42 Figure 2. 2

3 DATE APR. 1, 2005 PAGE Locate circuits 1306G and 1306F at the service compartment light switch screw terminals. Remove the wires from the switch. Using wire cutters, cut off the ring terminals. Using wire strippers, expose 1/2 inch of the wires. Slide the heatshrink ( part number ) over one wire. Solder splice the two wires together. Seal the wires with the heatshrink. NOTE If the coach is not equipped with a service compartment light switch; remove the plug from the service light switch position, on the remote engine control panel cover plate. Install the engine compartment light switch ( part number 7M ). 11. Connect circuit 1332M of the engine compartment light switch harness to P42-hh, from the interior of the remote engine control panel. Connect the other end of 1332M to terminal 1 of the light switch. 12. Connect circuit of the engine compartment light switch harness to terminal 2 of the light switch. Route the other end of circuit to the Ground bolt, located at the bottom of the remote engine control panel. Remove the Ground bolt and connect circuit Re-install Ground bolt and tighten. 13. Re-connect the main harness from the junction box. 14. Re-install the remote engine control panel cover plate, using the screws removed in Step Position the ENG RUN and REMOTE START switches to the ON position. Close the engine and rear, side service compartment door. NOTE After completion of procedure steps on multiplexed coaches, the service compartment light switch will activate the engine light only. The ENGINE DOOR tell-tale will illuminate as long as the switch is in the ON position. After completion of procedure steps on non-multiplexed coaches, the service compartment light switch will activate all coach service lights. The SERVICE DOOR tell-tale will illuminate as long as the switch is in the ON position.
