Description: Effective with unit number 61507, the E 10P / 10PR brake valve replaced the E 15 / 15R brake valve on 102 E / EL / E4500 coaches. This change is a result of Bendix discontinuing production of the E 15 / 15R brake valve. Parts Qty. REFER TO MANUAL Refer to Section 4D / Air Control Components, in the MCI 102 E Series Maintenance Manual, for information relating to the brake valves. 1. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

Pull the yellow, front bumper release handle to access the spare tire compartment. Carefully remove the spare tire to gain access to the spare tire compartment.

Service Procedure: General notes Read this entire procedure before beginning work. UseSafeShopPracticesAtAllTimes. REFER TO MANUAL Refer to Section 4D / Air Control Components, in the MCI 102 E Series Maintenance Manual, for information relating to the brake valves. 1. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. 2. Block both sides of the tires. 3. Drain all reservoirs. 4. Open the front, side service compartment door. Pull the yellow, front bumper release handle to access the spare tire compartment. Carefully remove the spare tire to gain access to the spare tire compartment. CAUTION Wheel and tire assemblies weigh more than 100 pounds. Use caution when handling the wheel and tire. 5. Locate the E 15 / 15R brake valve, in the front, side service compartment ( Figure 1 ). Figure 1.

Using a wrench, disconnect the air lines from the brake valve. 8. Remove and retain the roll pin and pivot pin from the brake pedal assembly ( Figure 2 ). remove pivot pin and roll pin from brake pedal assy. Figure Remove and retain the brake pedal, to access the brake valve mounting capscrews. 10. Remove and retain the three capscrews that mount the brake valve assembly to the pedal assembly ( Figure 3 ). remove the brake valve mounting capscrews ( 3 ) Figure Remove the E 15P / 15PR brake valve. 12. Using the three capscrews ( part number ), install the E 10P / 10PR brake valve. Torque to ft.-lbs. 13. Re---install the brake pedal and pivot pin. Re---install the roll pin ( Figure 2 ). 14. Orientate and connect the air lines to the E---10 brake valve ( Figures 8 ). 15. Return the spare tire to the spare tire compartment. Close the spare tire and front, side service compartment doors. 3

BRAKE VALVE OPERATION CHECK NOTE A change in vehicle braking characteristics or a low pressure warning may indicate a malfunction in a brake circuit. This must be repaired before returning the coach to service. Always check the brake system operation after servicing the brakes. Check the delivery pressure of both primary ( drive axle ) and secondary ( front axle ) circuits, using gauges known to be accurate. 1. Depress the treadle to several positions between the fully released and fully applied positions and check the delivered pressure to see that it varies equally and proportionately with the movement of the brake pedal. NOTE The primary circuit delivery pressure will be about 4 psi greater than the secondary circuit delivery pressure with both supply reservoirs at the same pressure. 2. After a full application is released, the reading must fall to zero promptly. 3. If the brake valve does not function correctly, replace it with a new brake valve. BRAKE VALVE LEAKAGE CHECK 1. Coat the exhaust port and body of the brake valve with a soap solution. 2. Make and hold a high pressure ( 80 psi ) application. 3. Leakage must not exceed a 1 inch bubble in three seconds. 4. If the brake valve leaks excessively, replace it with a new brake valve. 5. Coat all fittings and hoses with a soap solution. 6. Make another ( 80 psi ) brake application. 7. Check for leaks at fittings, correct as required. 8. Verify correct operation of brake system as per MCI Service Bulletin 2812, distributed November Procedure complete.
