If you are using special tools, please notify Documentation@gpsfarm.com. Metric open wrenches Metric socket wrenches up to 24 mm 1/4" UNC bottom taps (for cleaning out existing blind threaded holes) Soft brush Clean rags Oil collection pan (for collecting oil when hose connections are opened) Bench vise Flat file Hack saw with blade for steel Safety Warnings The AutoFarm system installer and manufacturer disclaim any responsibility for damage or physical harm caused by failure to adhere to the following requirements: WARNING To avoid collisions or electrical shock hazard, remove the roof module from the vehicle before driving under low structures or low electrical power lines. WARNING Ensure that you are in a stable position on the tractor platform when installing or removing the roof module, so that you do not fall or drop the roof module. WARNING To prevent the GPS steering system from running over a person, you must never leave the vehicle while the GPS steering system is engaged.

3 WARNING To avoid contact or inhalation of pesticides, clean the sprayer with water and wear a dust mask while working on the machine. WARNING Read the provided documentation before installing the GPS steering system on a vehicle. WARNING A5 user terminal: To prevent the accidental engagement of GPS steering and loss of vehicle control while driving on roads, shut down the A5 user terminal (exit the program) and press down the blue kill button located on the top left corner of the terminal. Never drive on roads or in public areas with the GPS steering system turned on. WARNING FarmPro user terminal: To prevent the accidental engagement of GPS steering and loss of vehicle control while driving on roads, shut down the system using the on-screen power button or the blue power button located on the bottom of the terminal. Never drive on roads or in public areas with the GPS steering system turned on. Safety Cautions The AutoFarm system installer and manufacturer disclaim any responsibility for damage or physical harm caused by failure to adhere to the following requirements: CAUTION The roof module must be removed when transporting or driving the vehicle at speeds above 30 mph (50 km/h). CAUTION The GPS steering system does not detect obstacles in the vehicle s path.

4 CAUTION When engaged, the GPS steering system controls only the steering of the vehicle. The operator must control the speed of the vehicle. CAUTION The GPS steering system must be powered OFF when installing or removing the roof module. CAUTION The supplied roof module locking pin or a padlock must be in place whenever the vehicle is in operation. CAUTION Positively identify the pressure and tank hoses on the steering orbitrol before proceeding with the installation. Inverted hose connections can damage the AutoFarm valve. CAUTION Before performing the calibration and tuning, verify all the nuts, screws and bolts are tight. Safety Notes The AutoFarm system installer and manufacturer disclaim any responsibility for damage or physical harm caused by failure to adhere to the following requirements: As the operator of the vehicle, you are responsible for its safe operation. The GPS steering system is not designed to replace the vehicle s operator. 22 Mount the Sensor Bracket Mount the Sensor Bracket The wheel angle sensor mounts on the vehicle s left front axle. The sensor bracket mounts on one end of the left side steering cylinder. Use the muffler clamp to attach the sensor bracket to the steering cylinder. See Figure 4-2. Figure 4-2 Mounting the Sensor Bracket sensor bracket with sensor unit steering cylinder Figure 4-3 provides details on the sensor bracket and the muffler clamp. Figure 4-3 Sensor Bracket Details muffler clamp sensor unit sensor bracket 16 AutoFarm GPS AutoSteer

Figure 4-4 Mounting the Linkage Rod Bracket small muffler clamp linkage rod bracket Figure 4-5 provides details on the linkage rod bracket and the small muffler clamp. Figure 4-5 Linkage Rod Bracket Details linkage rod bracket small muffler clamp Hardware Installation Guide 17

24 Adjust the Linkage Arms Length Adjust the Linkage Arms Length The original linkage arms you have received with your install kit are too long, you need to shorten them before completing the installation. Figure 4-6 provides an overview of the linkage arms: Figure 4-6 Linkage Arms 1. Cut the two linkage arms to the correct length as listed in Table 4-1. Also see Figure 4-7. Table 4-1 Linkage Arms Measurements Linkage Arms Dimensions in Inches Dimensions in mm A B C D Refer to Figure 4-7 for cutting measurements and schematics: Figure 4-7 Linkage Arms Cutting Schematic 18 AutoFarm GPS AutoSteer

25 Connect the Linkage Arms 3. Use a bench vise to secure the linkage arm. Cut the two linkage arms as shown in Figure 4-8. Note: Clean-up the ends of the threaded rods using a file and check if the threads are good using a steel nut: the nut should engage smoothly on the threaded rod. Figure 4-8 Cutting the Linkage Arms Connect the Linkage Arms Connect the linkage arms to the sensor bracket as shown in Figure 4-9. Figure 4-9 Connecting the Linkage Arms sensor arm linkage arm Hardware Installation Guide 19

26 Adjust the Sensor and Linkage Arms Adjust the Sensor and Linkage Arms To adjust the sensor and linkage arms: 1. Make sure the linkage arms never fully straighten or cross over when the wheels are turned to hard left and hard right. 2. Leave the wheel angle sensor bolts protruding down to act as limits for the sensor arm but ensure the sensor arm never touches them. 3. After installation is complete you should check the wheel angle sensor performance with either the "Examine Steering" screen or the "Calibration Wizard" in A5 systems or the "Steering Diagnostics" screen in FarmPro systems. 4. If you slowly turn the wheels from hard left to hard right the sensor counts observed on screen should increase or decrease smoothly and consistently all the way through the range swept out by the wheels. The sensor counts should never reach zero and should never stop counting at the high end of the scale before the wheels hit the stops either. If either of these symptoms occurs you may need to rotate the sensor within its aluminum body. Make sure the linkage arms do not fully straighten or cross over when the wheels are turned hard left and right. 5. Tighten all linkage nuts and wheel angle sensor screws after final adjustments to the linkage arms and wheel angle sensor. Note: This step is done after final assembly during the calibration and tuning steps. 20 AutoFarm GPS AutoSteer

67 12 Final Checklist Follow the steps below to perform a final checklist before operating the system: 1. Check if all the hoses have been connected to the correct points on the AutoFarm hydraulic steering valve and on the vehicle. Refer to the diagram in Figure 8-2 on page Inspect all the hose connections and ensure they are tight. 3. To prevent the hoses from being damaged, ensure all hoses are routed away from moving parts or hot parts. 4. To prevent the hoses from over-extending, ensure the hoses connected to the steering cylinders have enough free-play. 5. Check all cable connections. Check if all cables are protected and secured by nylon cable ties. 6. Power up the vehicle and check for hydraulic leaks. 7. Check manual steering. 8. Power up the AutoSteer system and begin the calibration and tuning process (refer to the provided A5 owner s manual for details). CAUTION Before performing the calibration and tuning, verify all the nuts, screws and bolts are tight. Hardware Installation Guide 61
