5 IG12 IGNITION (2UZFE) INSPECTION NOTICE: CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IG0EL05 Cold and Hot in these sentences express the temperature of the coils themselves. Cold is from 10 C (14 F) to 50 C (122 F) and Hot is from 50 C (122 F) to 100 C (212 F). Ohmmeter B02713 INSPECT CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals. Resistance: Cold Hot 1,630 to 2,740 Ω 2,065 to 3,225 Ω If the resistance is not as specified, replace the crankshaft position sensor. 3775

9 IG6 IGNITION (2UZFE) IGNITION COIL IG0EN04 INSTALLATION 1. INSTALL IGNITION COILS (WITH IGNITER) Install the ignition coil (with igniter) with the bolt. Install the 8 ignition coils (with igniter). Torque: 7.5 N m (76 kgf cm, 66 in. lbf) 2. CONNECT IGNITION COIL (WITH IGNITER) CONNEC TORS B

10 IGNITION (2UZFE) REMOVAL IGNITION COIL IG5 IG08R05 1. DISCONNECT IGNITION COIL (WITH IGNITER) CON NECTORS 2. REMOVE IGNITION COILS (WITH IGNITER) Remove the bolt, and pull out the ignition coil (with igniter). Remove the 8 ignition coils (with igniter). B

11 IGNITION (2UZFE) IGNITION SYSTEM IGNITION SYSTEM ONVEHICLE INSPECTION NOTICE: IG1 IG0MF02 Cold and Hot in these sentences express the temperature of the coils themselves. Cold is from 10 C (14 F) to 50 C (122 F) and Hot is from 50 C (122 F) to 100 C (212 F). 1. INSPECT IGNITION COIL (WITH IGNITER) AND SPARK TEST Check that the spark occurs. (1) Remove the ignition coils (with igniter). (see page IG5 ) (2) Remove the spark plugs. (3) Install the spark plugs to each ignition coil (with igniter), and connect the ignition coil (with igniter) connector. (4) Disconnect the 8 injector connectors. (5) Ground the spark plug. (6) Check that spark occurs while engine is being cranked. NOTICE: To prevent gasoline from being injected out of injectors during this test, crank the engine for no more than 5 to 10 seconds at a time. 3764

12 IG2 IGNITION (2UZFE) IGNITION SYSTEM If the spark does not occur, do the test as follows: SPARK TEST NG CHECK TDC NG CHECK CONNECTION OF IGNITION COIL CONNECTOR OK CHANGE IT TO NORMAL IGNITION COIL (WITH IGNITER) AND PERFORM SPARK TEST AGAIN NO CHECK POWER SUPPLY TO IGNITION COIL (WITH IGNITER) 1. Turn ignition switch to ON. 2. Check that there is battery voltage at ignition coil positive (+) terminal. OK CHECK RESISTANCE OF CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (See page IG12 ) Cold Hot Resistance: 985 1,600 Ω 1,265 1,890 Ω OK CHECK IGT SIGNAL FROM ECM (See page DI642 ) OK REPAIR WIRING BETWEEN IGNITION COIL AND ECM BAD OK BAD BAD BAD Connect securely. Replace the ignition coil (with igniter). Check wiring between ignition switch to ignition coil (with igniter). Replace the crankshaft position sensor. Check ECM (See page IN30 ) (7) Using a 16 mm plug wrench, install the spark plugs. Torque: 17.5 N m (180 kgf cm, 13 ft lbf) (8) Reinstall the ignition coils (with igniter). (see page IG6 ) 2. INSPECT SPARK PLUGS (a) Remove the ignition coils (with igniter). (see page IG5 ) (b) Using a 16 mm plug wrench, remove the spark plugs. 16 mm Plug Wrench B

13 IGNITION (2UZFE) IGNITION SYSTEM IG3 (c) Clean the spark plugs. If the electrode has traces of wet carbon, allow it to dry and then clean with a spark plug cleaner. Air pressure: Below 588 kpa (6 kgf/cm 2, 85 psi) Duration: 20 seconds or less HINT: If there are traces of oil, remove it with gasoline before using the spark plug cleaner. IG0152 (d) Check the spark plug for thread damage and insulator damage. If abnormal, replace the spark plug. Recommended spark plug: DENSO made NGK made SK20R11 IFR6A11 IG0148 (e) (f) (g) Adjust the spark plug electrode gap. Electrode gap: 1.0 to 1.1 mm (0.039 to in.) Using a 16 mm plug wrench, install the spark plugs. Torque: 17.5 N m (180 kgf cm, 13 ft lbf) Reinstall the ignition coils (with igniter). (see page IG6 ) P
