2 UNIK: The ultimate press for vulcanising joints A vulcanising press must have the following characteristics: - Lightweight for transportability - Modular to suit the joint size - Quick and even heating of the joint - Even pressure distribution across the joint - Quick cooling after the joint is cooked - User friendly operation with easy to understand controls and gauges - Automatic features for setting the temperature and curing time - Printed report option All these chacteristics are features of the Mossier Unik press. 3 Modular Press configuration ML MW BIAS ANGLE 6º 3 A B C E D F HEATING PLATENS BELT How to specify the parameters of a press The operator has to specify the following:. A rhomboid platen of 6 or for a bias joint or a square orthogonal platen for a square joint The advantage of a square joint is the speed and ease of making the joint. The advantage of a bias joint is a longer joint life due to the joint line gradually passing over the pulley. Minimum platen width (MW); This value should be at least 00mm greater than the maximum width of the belt () to be jointed. MW > + 00mm 3. Minimum platen length (ML). It should be at least 50mm greater than the length of the joint (JL) for the heaviest tensile strength belt to be jointed. ML > JL + 50mm 4. Will the operator be using the press for jointing textile belts only, or textile belts and steel cord belts? For textile belt applications only, a pressure on the platens of only 8 kg/cm is required. This is the standard UNIK pressure. For steel cord belt applications, a pressure on the platens of 6 kg/cm is recommended. This is the UNIK ST pressure. Note UNIK vulcanising presses can be upgraded to UNIK ST. 5. Which options? -a- a control box with four outputs (it can control two pairs of platens) instead of the standard -b- automatic operation of the hydraulic unit. The hydraulic unit can be automatically powered by an electric pump -c- a data recorder to record the joint pressure and temperature with time. 3 Components of the UNIK press range UNIK (8 bar) or a UNIK ST (6 bar) press composed of several components that are assembled together to meet the requirement of the client Note: The only difference between a UNIK press and a UNIK ST press is that for the latter the hydraulic pump allows a greater pressure and that there are a greater number of beams with minimal distance between them. Pairs of light aluminium platens The standard press is rhomboid (angle 6 or ), however square presses are also available Dimensions Weight with (mm) cooling system(kg) 600 x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x Electrical resistance and isolating material The electrical resistance is embedded in a mm thick special heat conductive soft material allowing the temperature to be kept within +/- 5 C across the heating area, and throughout the heating cycle. It is isolated from the outside by a ultra high density wooden fabric ensuring that the temperature on the platen casing stays below 50 C in all conditions. The electrical resistance and the isolating material are incorporated in a light robust aluminium casing with a thermocouple enclosed, that incorporate two retractable handles for easy transportation. Cooling System The water circulating system is composed of rectangular tubing inside the platen which enables the belt to cool from 50 C to 70/80 C in approximately 0 minutes after vulcanisation. This minimises the downtime of the conveyor and allows the press to be quickly re-used for another joint. Other special dimensions can be supplied on request. Platens Each platen includes an even electrical resistance, one thermo couple, an isolation sheet and electrical connectors to the electronic control box. Each platen also includes rectangular steel tubing for the cooling water. Several pairs of light aluminium beams The pairs of aluminium beams incorporate the following features: - The oil/water pressure bags in the top beam which can handle a maximum pressure of 6 bar. - The beams have a low profile which allows the use of the press in confined spaces. - The top and bottom beams are locked together by special bolts at the ends of the beams. These bolts do not require any special tools. Aluminium beams In a Unik press for jointing textile belts, the distance between two neighbouring beams can be up to 00mm. In a Unik ST press operating at 6 kg/cm the distance between the beams has to be minimal. Pairs of aluminium beams incorporating in each top beam a water/oil pressure bag connected to the hydraulic pump via connectors. As an option, there is a possibility to have a single control box for two pairs of platens. - Easily transportable - Water and dustproof - Separate to the press to avoid accidental damage - Quick and easy programming to set the time and temperature - One thermocouple per platen to transmit the temperature to the thermo regulator in the Control box - Vulcanising time monitored from the thermo regulator - Clear, easily read control data - A residual current operated circuit breaker to ensure personal safety Note: All electrical connections comply with CE STANDARD. In case of automatic pump, the operation of the pump can be actioned from the electric control box panel. A hydraulic system composed of an oil tank, a pump, a distribution manifold and flexible hoses to connect the system to each individual top beam. 4 Options DR (Data Recorder) Reliable device that records on paper the pressure and temperature data during the vulcanising cycle. AOU (Automatic Oil Unit) The Automatic Oil Unit AOU is used when the pairs of beams are greater than 5. The pressure sensor will automatically adjust the operation of the working pressure of the press by acting on the pump. Oil tank: 40 litres Output pressure of pump: 0 bars with a flow of litres per minute. Spare Parts Components available as spare parts - Heating platen - Quick change hydraulic connector - Flexible hydraulic hoses - Oil/waters bags The Spot Repair Press The SPOT Repair Press is a C framed tool for Spot repairs or reshaping the damaged edges of conveyor belts. The maximum reach of the C Frame is 600 mm therefore the maximum belt width is 00 mm. - The surface for a Spot Repair is 350 x 40 mm - The surface for an Edge Repair is 000 x 50 mm - The press plates have internal facilities for cooling water to prevent damage to the belt - The press can achieve 8 kg/cm pressure by manual adjustment.
