2 OWNERS MANUAL ARMED When button #1 is pressed, the siren chirps and parking ights fash once, and the LED starts fashing to show the aarm is armed. (No ights fash for the VS235XR.) ZONE BYPASS When you press transmitter button #1 to arm the aarm, and the aarm responds with three chirps and three ight fashes (no fashes for the VS235XR), there are two possibiities: A. Deayed domeights If your domeights do not immediatey turn OFF when you cose your car door (in other words, your vehice has deayed domeights), it is norma to hear the three chirps. The aarm shoud protect a the openings once the domeights go OFF. B. A zone was bypassed In other words, the aarm has armed, but a door may not be protected (either because it is open, or because its pin switch is broken). If the bypassed door is ater cosed, it wi be restored. If your aarm indicates a bypassed zone, find the cause as soon as possibe to ensure your vehice is competey protected. For instance, if your driver's door is not propery cosed when you arm your aarm, a thief may be abe to open any door without setting off the aarm. NOTE Make sure your car's domeight switch is not in the ON position when you arm your aarm. The aarm may not arm propery if the domeight switch is eft ON. NOTE There are references to opening or cosing a door throughout this manua. "Door" aso incudes your Boot or Bonnet, if they are protected. Ask your deaer. NOTE The chirps to confirm zone bypass wi not sound if chirp deete is engaged. However, the parking ights (VS255XR ony) wi sti fash three times. (See CHIRP DELETE). SENSOR BYPASS (Shock Sensor) This is usefu if you know, based on experience, that your shock sensor wi fase trigger, such as when you park near a construction site. Shoud you wish to bypass your aarm's shock sensor, first press button #1 to arm the aarm. The siren chirps and the parking ights fash once (three times if a zone is bypassed) (no fash for the VS235XR) to confirm armed. Within three seconds, press button #2. The siren chirps three times and the parking ights fash three times (no fash for the VS235XR) to confirm shock sensor is bypassed. The sensors are automaticay restored the next time button #1 is pressed. NOTE The chirps to confirm zone bypass wi not sound if chirp deete is engaged. However, the parking ights (VS255XR ony) wi sti fash three times. (See CHIRP DELETE). DISARMING Press transmitter button #1. You wi hear two chirps. The red LED wi stop fashing. The parking ights wi fash twice, at the same time the car doors wi be unocked (VS255XR ony). The aarm is now competey disarmed. EMERGENCY DISARM If you ose your transmitter, you can disarm your aarm with the ignition key switch. Whie your aarm is either armed or triggered, turn the ignition switch ON/OFF 4 times within 15 seconds. The siren and the fashing ights stop if the aarm was triggered, and then chirp and fash three times. The aarm is now in vaet (see VALET). (No ights fash for the VS235XR.) EMERGENCY CALL FOR HELP (panic) To trigger the aarm in an emergency, press and hod transmitter button #1 for 3 seconds. The siren sounds and the parking ights fash for about 30 seconds. Stop the siren and the parking ights any time by pressing button #1 again. (No ights fash for the VS235XR.) If the aarm was disarmed when you triggered the emergency ca for hep, the aarm immediatey arms and the doors ock. If the aarm was armed, the opposite wi occur. TOTAL PROTECTION Whie your aarm is armed, your car is protected in the foowing ways: Potentia thieves or vandas shoud be deterred by the fashing LED. If anyone opens a door, the aarm wi immediatey sound the siren and fash the parking ights (VS255XR ony) for 30 seconds, after which the aarm wi rearm, bypassing any open doors.

3 Turning the ignition key ON wi trigger the aarm for 30 seconds. The optiona Engine Immobiizer prevents the car from being started. If the shock sensor detects ight taps on the car, it wi trigger the pre-intrusion aert (the siren chirps three times, and the parking ights fash three times [ights fash for VS255XR ony]) to warn potentia thieves and vandas. However, if the shock sensor detects a strong shock to the car, such as shock caused by prying the Boot open, it wi trigger the aarm for 30 seconds. (See DUAL-STAGE SHOCK SENSOR.) CHIRP DELETE (sient arm/disarm) There are times, especiay at night, when you may not want to hear the siren chirps. Just press button #2 any time before you need the chirps deeted. For instance, press button #2 before you press button #1 to arm or disarm the aarm, and the chirps wi not sound, but the parking ights wi sti fash (ights fash for VS255XR ony). The chirps are restored the next time you press a transmitter button. NOTE This function deetes the chirps for disarm, zone bypass, sensor bypass, vaet, and tamper. However, it does not affect the fashing parking ights. (VS255XR ony) VALET Sometimes you may not wish to arm your aarm when you eave your vehice. (For instance, if you eave your car with a vaet attendant, you may not want to teach him how the aarm operates.) To enter vaet, first disarm the aarm and turn the ignition ON/OFF 4 times within 15 seconds. The aarm is now in the vaet mode. The siren chirps and the parking ights fash once to confirm (ights fash for VS255XR ony). Your aarm aso goes into vaet when you use emergency disarm. (See EMERGENCY DISARM). To exit vaet, just turn the ignition ON/OFF 4 times within 15 seconds. The siren chirps twice and the parking ights fash twice (ights fash for VS255XR ony) to confirm vaet is exited and the aarm is disarmed. If you press transmitter button #1 whie the aarm is in vaet, the aarm wi not arm but the doors wi ock or unock, and the parking ights wi fash four times (VS255XR ony). The aarm's emergency ca for hep operates normay. DUAL-STAGE SHOCK SENSOR Your aarm incudes a patented dua-stage shock sensor. The first stage (pre-intrusion aert) warns thieves the aarm is armed. For instance, the aarm wi chirp three times and the parking ights wi fash three times (ights fash for the VS255XR ony) if the sensor detects a ight bump to the vehice. However, if the thief attacks the car with sufficient force, the aarm wi trigger. Your deaer can make the shock sensor more or ess sensitive to attack, depending on your vehice. POWER DOOR LOCKS (VS255XR ony) With this optiona feature, your aarm can automaticay ock the doors when armed and unock the doors when disarmed. The doors ock and unock any time transmitter button #1 is pressed (exception See EMERGENCY CALL FOR HELP ). For extra security, they ock automaticay if the aarm is triggered. Extra accessories may be required, i.e. SEA169 Interface, SEA170 Door Motor. ENGINE IMMOBILIZER With this optiona feature, whie your aarm is armed, your car wi not start. TAMPER INDICATOR If your aarm was triggered when you were away, the siren wi chirp four times and the parking ights fash four times, then turn ON for 6 seconds when you disarm your aarm. These "memory" fashes automaticay reset when the ignition is turned ON. OPTIONAL BACKUP BATTERY With main power disconnected, the backup battery wi normay ast for at east 24 hours, assuming the aarm was not triggered. If triggered continuousy, it woud ast for approximatey 6 minutes. A 9V rechargeabe Nicke-Cadmium battery must be used. The aarm wi recharge the battery automaticay. CODE LEARNING The aarm can earn a maximum of 4 remotes. RF CodeWash deetes a previous remotes when any new remote is earned. This prevents unauthorized use of ost or stoen transmitters, and aerts the user if someone has secrety code- earned a new transmitter. However, it aso means that, when code-earning is being done, ALL THE USER'S TRANSMITTERS MUST BE CODE LEARNED AT THE SAME TIME.

4 A. Procedure: (1) Disarm the aarm. (2) Turn the ignition switch ON/OFF 4 times within 15 seconds. (3) Within 15 seconds, hod the first transmitter, and then push buttons #1 and #2 together unti 1 chirp confirms the code is earned (approximatey 4 seconds), and that a previous transmitter codes have been deeted. If no button is pressed within this 15-second period, code earning is exited, and the od codes are retained. (4) Within 15 seconds, push button #1 and #2 of the second transmitter (if avaiabe) together for at east three seconds. One chirp confirms earned. (5) Repeat step (4) unti a maximum of 4 transmitters are earned. The siren chirps once for each transmitter when its code is successfuy earned. B. Exit the code earning procedure The aarm chirps the siren three times, exits the code earning mode, and is disarmed if you earn the fourth transmitter's code, or if you turn the ignition switch ON, or if you do nothing for 15 seconds. Appendix 1 UNDERSTANDING THE SIREN CHIRPS AND LIGHT FLASHES NOTE: Lights fash for the VS255XR ony. A. 1 chirp/fash: When transmitter button #1 is pressed, the aarm is armed. Successfuy entered the vaet mode. B. 2 chirps/fashes: When transmitter button #1 is pressed, the aarm is disarmed. Successfuy exited the vaet mode. C. 3 chirps/fashes: Pre-intrusion warns potentia thieves or vandas who trigger the first stage of the dua-stage sensor that your car is protected by an aarm. When pressing transmitter button #1 to arm the aarm, indicates the aarm arms even though it is not set propery (door not cosed, or broken switch, or domeight is sti ON, see ZONE BYPASS). When pressing transmitter button #1 then #2, indicates sensor bypassed (see SENSOR BYPASS). Competed emergency disarm. D. 4 chirps/4 fashes: When the aarm is disarmed, indicates the aarm was triggered whie you were away. When transmitter button #1 is pressed, indicates the aarm in vaet (fashes ony, no chirps). Appendix 2 UNDERSTANDING THE LED FLASHES A. Armed indicator Fashes when the aarm is armed. B. Disarmed indicator OFF when the aarm is disarmed. C. RF reception indicator ON whie the transmitter button is pressed. D. Vaet mode indicator Fashes sowy if the ignition switch is turned OFF (no fash if the ignition is ON). Trigger zone indicator If the aarm has been activated whie you were away, the LED wi fash a code for 30 secs. after the aarm has been disarmed. EG... 1 fash current sensor activation SEA933 2 fashes ignition/panic activation 3 fashes shock activation 4 fashes door /boot activation CHANGING THE TRANSMITTER BATTERY 1. Unscrew the sma screw and remove the top cover. 2. Check that the battery cips are propery contacting the positive (+) and negative (-) ends of the battery. SEA Reset the aarm by pressing the sma button #1 on the eft of the circuit board near the LED. If the aarm sti does not operate propery, repace the battery. DO NOT TOUCH ANY OTHER PARTS OF THE TRANSMITTER. MAKE SURE THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE BATTERY ENDS CORRESPOND CORRECTLY TO THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE BATTERY CLIPS. 4. Repace the front cover and the screw. Turn the screw tight enough to hod the case together, but not so tight that the case cracks.

5 TROUBLE SHOOTING In most cases, rare operationa difficuties are the resut of a weak transmitter battery. Beow are the guideines for soving the majority of the probems you may encounter. If you have not soved the probem after foowing these guideines, contact a professiona instaer immediatey. 1. No siren sound or chirp when transmitter button is pressed for arming or disarming: a. Make sure the aarm's RED wire has power, and the BLACK wire is propery grounded. b. Repace the transmitter battery and check the cips for proper poarity. c. Recode the remote see "Code earning." 2. Transmitter works in some areas and not in other areas: This is probaby due to excess RF activity in that area (usuay just a short time and ony whie you are in that area, depending on the type of the activity). It is ony temporary and won't affect the aarm in other areas. 3. Aarm sounds for no apparent reason: a. Be sure that the transmitter button #1 is not being hed down too ong, or something in your pocket or purse is not pressing against the transmitter button #1. The receiver may aso be picking up interference from a nearby airport, ow-fying pane or other sources. Such interference is temporary. b. Check which zone was triggered see "Triggered zone indicator." 4. No chirp when arming, (ights fash 4 times and centra ocking operates VS255XR) Refer to VALET instructions to exit Vaet Mode. Important: Do not make any repairs or adjustments to any component of the transmitter or the aarm other than changing the battery or checking the shock sensor adjustment as described. 6 GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS Important: Disconnect the fuse from aarm's red wire before beginning the instaation. 1. The aarm comes with a U-shaped mounting bracket which provides a soid mounting for the main unit. The main unit shoud be ocated in an inconspicuous pace under the hood as far away from the engine IMPORTANT as possibe. Mount the siren trumpet pointing down so it does not coect water. 2. Soder a connections whenever possibe. Do not run wires too tight. 3. Run wires away from sharp edges which may cause short circuits. Protect wires with tubing or by wrapping with eectrica tape. Use Fig. 1 grommets when wires are run through hoes in the car body. 4. Run wires in such a way that the aarm is positioned higher than the wires (see Fig.1). 5. Mount a components in such a way that the norma operation of the vehice s moving parts is not impaired or interfered with. 6. Mount a components and run wires so they cannot easiy be reached from under the vehice by someone attempting to defeat the system. 7. With the aarm disarmed, remove the battery cover and insert a 9V Nicke-Cadmium rechargeabe battery (not incuded) to provide backup power to the aarm. If the main power cord is cut, the aarm wi function normay for at east 24 hours, except current sensing. 8. Mount the siren out of the direct path of water. TECHNICAL NOTES WHEN USING CURRENT SENSING (If current sensing is not desired, cut the purpe oop in the unit) 1. If the vehice has a buit-in noise fiter that prevents the current sensing function from triggering the aarm, use a charged non-poarized capacitor (not incuded) of at east 47µF rated at 16V or higher. Connect it in parae to the dome or courtesy ight. 2. Fase aarms may resut if the aarm is over-sensitive, or if a buit-in eectrica device drains the battery when the vehice is parked. In this case: a. Connect one ead of a non-poarized capacitor to where the aarm's red wire connects to power. Connect the other ead of the capacitor to the chassis. b. For vehices with a buit-in impuse winding cock that draws current when the cock is winding, repace it with a constant-current cock or connect it to a separate battery. RED WIRE Main power DO NOT CONNECT THE RED WIRE DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY. Connect the red wire to an unswitched positive termina of the fuse box, or to an (unswitched) source of +12VDC which is at east 1 meter away from the battery. YELLOW WIRE Ignition switch votage input Connect to a fuse or a wire which outputs +12VDC when the ignition key is in the ON and START position, but not the ACC position. This wire must be connected at a times to ensure proper arming and disarming, as we as to operate the vaet, emergency disarm, programming, and code earning process. ORANGE WIRES To fash parking ights (positive output) VS255XR ony A. Determine if the parking ights are positive or negative switched Using a VOM meter, test the wires coming from behind the ight switch. Look for a wire which changes poarity when the parking ights are turned ON: (1) Positive (+) parking ight system If a wire goes to +12VDC when the parking ights are turned ON, but shows no votage with the parking ights turned OFF, this is the (+) parking ight wire. (2) Negative (-) parking ight system If a wire goes to ground when the parking ights are turned ON, but shows no ground with the parking ights turned OFF, this is the (-) parking ight wire. (3) NOTE: a. Most vehices have (+) parking ight systems. A few (mainy Japanese) have (-) parking ight systems (the (-) signa usuay triggers a reay to send +12VDC to the parking ights). b. If the votage on the (+) or (-) parking ight wire varies when you dim or brighten the interior ights, then this is not the correct wire.

7 B. Connect the fused ORANGE WIRE: (1) Singe-wire parking ight systems Most vehices have a singe circuit which contros a parking ights. In Fig. 2 Fashing parking ights Positive singe-circuit parking ights this case, connect the fused ORANGE WIRE to the (+) parking ight wire. See fig. 2. (2) Dua-wire parking ight systems A few vehices (mainy Ø ORANGE 10A European) have separate circuits for parking ights for the vehice's right and eft sides. In this case, connect the fused ORANGE WIRE to two reays, each of which feeds power to the two separate circuits. See fig.3. (3) Negative (-) parking ight system Connect the fused ORANGE WIRE to a reay. See fig.4. BLACK WIRE To chassis ground CHOOSE A GOOD CHASSIS GROUND LOCATION. If the ground is not connected propery, the aarm may act as if armed, but not be abe to sound the siren. Scrape paint from the meta surface, and use a grounding ug and star washers for best resuts. BLUE WIRE To car door switches If the vehice has existing car door switches, ocate a car door switch wire which changes poarity when any door is opened: If the door switch wire shows ground when a door is opened (this is the case with most cars, incuding GM), connect to the bue wire. If the vehice is not equipped with car door switches, or if the door switch wire shows positive when the door is opened, insta pin switches SEA876 in each of the doors. Connect each of these switches to the aarm's BLUE wire. WHITE WIRE To engine immobiizer Connect to an optiona 30A reay to prevent the car from starting when the aarm is armed. A. Locate the starter soenoid wire (carries power from the ignition switch to the starter soenoid). This wire must show +12VDC ony when the ignition is in the start position. B. Cut the starter soenoid wire. C. Test the starter soenoid wire as foows: (1) If the wire is cut before the engine is started, the engine shoud not turn over. (2) If the wire is cut whie the engine is running, it shoud not affect the engine s operation. D. Connect the WHITE WIRE and the two haves of the cut starter soenoid wire to the reay as shown in fig. 5. E. If the engine sti starts, connect termina 86 to a wire which shows +12VDC when the engine is both starting and running (fig. 6). Fig. 5 N.C. 8 GREY AND BROWN WIRES To automatic door ock/unock (VS255XR ony) The power door ock outputs may be connected to a car which has existing or add-on power door ock switching reays. The transistor ground output is high enough to energize most switching reays. When disarmed, UNLOCKS the doors with a 0.5 second ground output. When armed, LOCKS the doors with a 0.5 second ground output. DO NOT CONNECT THESE POWER DOOR LOCK WIRES DIRECTLY TO THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS, AS THIS WILL DEFINITELY BURN OUT THE ALARM SYSTEM. Instaation wi vary from car to car, depending on the car's power door ock wiring. In most cases, a separate door ock interface modue SEA169 is required. Mercedes and Audi owners wi need a different mode (SEA168). Pease refer to the modue's manua for more information. ADJUSTING THE SHOCK SENSOR 1. Remove the back cover. 2. Use a sma, fat-bade screwdriver to turn the adjustment knob. 3. When turned cockwise, the sensitivity is increased. If turned countercockwise, the sensitivity is decreased. Do not overturn the potentiometer, as it may break, ony 270 degree adjustment range. 4. To test the sensitivity, kick a whee ighty, and siren wi "chirp," then kick hard enough to trigger the aarm at the desired point. If it does not "chirp," the sensitivity shoud be increased. If the whee is ighty kicked and the aarm sounds, the sensitivity shoud be decreased. Check a whees for consistency. Note To prevent fase aarms, the shock sensor wi not trigger the aarm unti 4 seconds after the aarm is armed and no further motion is detected. However, do LED NOT mount where the LED is easiy exposed to sunight. Discuss the LED ocation with the customer before starting. SEA110 B. Dri a 6 mm hoe in the LED ocation. C. Run the LED connector through the hoe, and then pug into the aarm brain s 2-pin RED connector. IMPORTANT The LED operates on +5V, not +12V. DO NOT CONNECT THE LED DIRECTLY TO THE CAR S BATTERY, OR IT WILL BURN OUT. SPECIFICATIONS POWER: 12VDC.
